UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

Did Devlin break his wrist or not?. I'm also surprised that Jason Siedem hasn't played yet, does anyone know if he's injured also?

I surmise Devlin out but Moose is back this weekend. My guess is they may split duties this weekend. Not sure who plays wing on the 1st line moving forward. Don’t think you want to mess any other lines up.

If Souza still does his Wednesday presser he might discuss Devlins injury...I dont think we will see him for awhile hope I'm wrong. Norb do you have definitive info on Muze returning?

I do not have anything definitive. I’d imagine we would get a timeline on both if he does. I’d say it will be a while.

Iv'e seen the Siedem kid play and he'd be a much better option then a few playing on 4th line..JMHO. I'd like to find out if he's got an injury.

With the help of the U Maine poster who mentioned UNH was ranked #9 in the Nov 6 2017 USCHO poll it seems like the last time UNH was ranked (#20) was Jan 2nd 2018.

They were 6-1-1 at the time of the #9 ranking, and by 1/2/18 they had fallen to 9-9-1 ranked #20.

They finished that season 10-20-6, good for 1 win in the last 17 games.

It's nice to see them ranked. They deserve it. That said, it'll take me a few more games to view them in a different lens. Right now they are still that friend you hope will change and who always promises they will, but keeps letting you down. Working off the same analogy though 'it's the best he's looked in years'

Just goes to show how meaningless polls are at this time of year. The excitement surrounding the team is great, heck they even have WMUR talking about them again, but we really won't know where they are heading until late November to early December. How will they respond to adversity? What happens if Devlin and Muse are out long term, not sure what the extent of either injury is, but will others step up? How many more injuries of key players can they sustain? The injury bug is mostly luck, but truly good teams overcome them. It may be I'm a little jaded, but I feel the downside risk for this teams outweighs the upside potential. Change my mind!

After going 0-3 UNH Men's Soccer gets a 2-0 W over UVM to claim their 5th consecutive America
East regular season championship...Talk about getting it done!

You will find out. I don’t know the press conference schedule but I’d imagine it won’t be long.

Traditionally the pressers are/were on Wednesdays at noon. I don't know if this is the schedule for this season. And typically, coaches are fairly
quiet about explicit details regarding injuries to players esp when the details are not clear. By now they know what's up with Devlin.

I've been surprised that Siedem hasn't been in the mix as well...thought he was touted as an up and comer.
Perhaps there's 'no room' in the Inn for him right now? Excluding injury, that's all I can come up with maybe someone who
has a good objective read on the team can give their .02 why we haven't seen him yet...

Who would have been bumped for Siedem? The Captain Blaisdell, who just took a blocked puck in the gut for the team? At least Devlin getting injured opens up a slot for Siedem, who should make the most of his opportunity. If MS7 really is “coaching up” this team, they should not miss a beat with Devlin and Muzselik on the shelf.

I had mentioned earlier that UNH has garnered attention from WMUR, with some more now here at USCHO, https://www.uscho.com/2023/11/01/th...2PyGtN5a_dWAWXSL4BZUsQZfXBJE6cJRsDu57W6ER-8GY. In it Souza mentions the 10th place preseason pick in HE as motivation. Let’s hope they can use that all season to keep things rolling in the right direction.

Thanks for the article would've missed it! Yeah, being picked 'next to last' isn't a good thing particularly when your job is on the line...like any team there will be ups and
downs this season- hopefully, more ups. Maybe this team will be like the 2012-2013 team which ended up #1 in December of that year. (a girls can dream)

Speaking for myself getting to the Garden is a huge goal and I don't dare think Regionals...at least, not now!

"Sophomore goalie Tyler Muszelik has posted a 2-1 record with a 3.92 goals-against average and .864 save percentage. Junior Jacob Hellsten backstopped the games vs. Northeastern and Dartmouth, allowing a goal apiece in each game with a .951 save percentage."

Seems we may have a burgeoning starting goalie debate developing at UNH for the first time in many seasons ...

He finished his sophomore season at UND with a 5-5-2 overall record with a 2.72 GAA and an .875 save percentage in 13 games, pretty average overall. Maybe the change of scenery has been good for him. Anyone know the backstory on why he left UND, was he expecting to be the main guy between the pipes and not happy splitting time?
