UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

Based on recent results, no question the COO trophy goes to UNH again. Only caveat being ....unless UMO sweeps Q at Q this weekend (in the words of Joe...aint happening). Congrats ;-)

That and UNH is going to finish the month in 1st place in Hockey East... well at least tied for first and because many teams haven't played any league games... there is a chance UNH could pull, well a UNH and gak away COO by getting stomped by Dartmouth at home on Saturday

...anyone who follows 'sports' knows that 'on any given night' anyone can beat anyone (esp in hockey/jmho) UNH can't be looking past Dartmouth to Providence which is typical when you are on a roll and think you are better than you actually are kind of thing. Not saying UNH is in that head space, and they have every right to feel pretty good about themselves. We all know that this is a long season; so much can happen...

I thought Jakob Hellsten played very well last night; he had some key saves. Not sure of the extent of the injury to TyMuz- they were saying 'lower body'
which could mean alot of things. Speaking of injuries Brett Pesce is out for a few weeks with the same kind of thing.

Norbert, HR will buy you a beer to reward you for your part in this recent UNH resurgence as the 'Champions of October' if they win Sat night... :-)

Ps...speaking of 'gaking' how 'bout those Bruins last night???

Well, since the world is upside down a sweep of Q is not out of the question by UMO. “No joke” to quote Joe again;-)

I will wait until after Saturday to see if they don't play down to Dartmouth, but I am close to claiming responsibility for the start of the season. Shake a tree and a leaf will fall. I just hope I get a ring for lighting a fire with MS7 and the team.

See you Saturday.

For anyone who wasn't around the board at the time, norb met with MS7 on or about May 11th. Lots of discussion prior to and after his meeting, on the prior UNH offseason thread (Post #862 was a very brief recap of the meeting).

What you described certainly didn't sound contentious, so maybe now you can let the cat ('Cat) out of the bag, norb? Especially if you're claiming a COO "ring", we may have to demand you produce the video transcripts, mon ami!! ;-)

No video from it. There really are no deep secrets to be told. It was really what is the plan and is there any future of this turning around. As we had discussed a lot of it was on the renovations and needing that as a tool.

Have the infrastructure renovations been made now, or are they still in the planning stages? If still in the planning stages, I do not see how these infrastructure plans can explain the unexpected turnaround in play on the ice. This year’s team is essentially the same as last year’s. Other than a change in primary goaltender, a new first-year d-man has replaced one who left for Ohio State and a first-year winger has replaced last year’s Captain who left for Merrimack. Thus, I am only left with an explanation that perhaps the coaching staff has finally figured out things on the ice, and dare I say MS7 is finally “coaching up” some of these players, as unbelievable as that is to me.

Bring on the Big Green, which is coming off a 1-1 tie with Hahvud in their opener on Friday night.

After several shootouts! Under no illusion that it will be an easy task for the 'Cats especially if they are looking past them to next weekend's big test with Province!

HR's prediction:

UNH 4 Dartmouth 2

I think the FR - Ryan Conmy - is already the best offensive player on the team. That has certainly lifted the top line…

If this level of play continues the ‘change’ is simple. Solid talent grouping plus another year of maturity, experience and strength. If this is just another SSS run, then it’s because the talent is no better than solid-average and the extra year does nothing to enhance that reality…

Nick Ring gets first goal, three seconds after end of UNH PP early in second period.

And this year’s Captain (if I have that correct) got an insurance goal.

Great goal by Ring (and Huard) and the 'Cats hold on to dispose of a pesky Dartmouth team. We'll take it...

Was happy for Harrison Blaisdell he really needed that goal and it was a beauty.

Jakob Hellsten looks good was hoping he'd get a shut out. Hope Devlin and a couple of others who took shots are ok...

Big test coming up next weekend but for now...I like what I see so far let's go 'Cats!

Dunno, but now fourth overall in CHN PWR.
What a great week for the team. 5th in pairwise, and will probably be ranked,my guess between 15-18th. What about Hellsten 2-0 1.00 ga and a 951%. Big weekend next week,it's been a while since wev'e said that. Ref thanks again for the tickets i'll have to buy you a beer before the season's over.

Rumor has it Devlin's injury (looked like a hand/wrist?) could be bad...if he's out, who takes his place on that top line? I'm clueless about who shoots left etc
but thinking Sardarian? Maybe Winters?

Robert Balin no problem and you are welcome. I could potentially have 2 more for this coming Friday night as Mr. HR has a friend
who works for the University system and gave him 4 tix in our row for Friday night. Two of those are promised and if my daughter doesn't want
the other two I'll let you know...

Really excited for the Provinced (lol) series; we usually match up pretty well with them. Go 'Cats!

I thought broken wrist the way he reacted when it happened. Hope not, but it is.

Solid win. Been a long time.

Sure was! Some iffy moments but I think the 'Cats hung tough after making a few adjustments after the first..Dartmouth was
scrappy and not giving up a whole lot. Their goalie (wow, 6'8!) filled the net and we finally found a way around him..

Noticed that Stewy wasn't behind the bench (I don't think?)...not sure who the other guy was; goalie coach?

On another note sad and tragic that former UMD player Adam Johnson lost his life in a game in England last night...some are calling
for mandatory neck protection. Didn't UNH goalie Mike Ayers have a bad injury by a skate to his hand by a skate?

This type of stuff is scary...Prayers to Adam's family, friends, fans and teammates over the years..#SticksOutFor47

Conmy was pretty quiet last night. Looks like as teams get more video on him things may get a bit tougher for Conmy.

Seemed like he and LeClerc were pretty much held at bay all night. As a rookie he will certainly have alot coming at him as he
adjusts to D1 life. Have been impressed tho with him, Ring, Fitzy and Slavins so far...

These guys have been impressive so far. Maybe why I even say a quick smile from MS7 on the bench last night. Can’t tell you the last time I’ve seen that!
