UNH At The Starting Gate....

That's adorable! UNH gets more fans to the Garden than NU... and, as a BU fan, BU-UNH games at the Garden don't exactly feel like home games.

I've been going to the garden to watch unh since the ecac , they have always brought or attracted more fans than any other team. Alot of the alumni are from the Boston area, it also helps that unh us 75 min away. Back in the hay day was awesome 8000 or 9000 fans

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

I am not sure what games you might have gone to, or when these games were.

2002 or 2003. Probably about 60% of the fans were UNH fans. We just don't get a large group of students, UNH fans are spread through out the garden (or they were, it's been a while since we've been there :()

I do recall a HE championship game vs BU where it seemed like there more UNH fans.

It was 03; I remember being in the top of the top, with another friend. We were bored, and noting the number of UNH fans there, during the BU / BC game before ours. We started a UNH chant - it worked -- and later, friends of ours sitting down front said the BC/BU players were looking around, confused.

But I just don't feel a home ice advantage when facing either BU or BC in games played at the garden, at least not like you get as the whitt.

Obviously (though this year, it seems unh plays better away from the whitt...), but that's the way it is for conference championships. Heck, in basketball, in most of the conferences, all of the major ones, they have all of the games at a neutral site (mostly neutral).... and no best of three home first round.

Ill put it this way, I guess the only barometer which would closely resemble a poll on fan support would be after a goal is scored or on certain chants, ie unh unh. My astute recollection tells me the noice has always been louder when unh plays. Maybe its other fans throwing support out of hatred for opposing teams or my bias but this is my opinion that unh does indeed bring more fans, I will say we bring the least amount of students, but many moons ago this was not the case. Also I do believe attendance was not as high the last two years but you could also blame the economy. The same can be said for students attending games.the cost is exorbitant compared to the 80 s and 90s . In the old snively it was all students yes a different era, the old mighty dollar wasn't front and center along with profit margins.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

Posted in the ticket thread also, but does anyone have an extra ticket for the Saturday game @ UNH? Looks like the game is sold out. I have a ticket for myself, looking for one for bostonewe. Thanks!

I posted this in the game thread a couple of days ago, so forgive the repetition. I just want to get it in a few places since not everyone checks every thread:

For anyone in Washington, DC, the UNH alumni association is sponsoring a gamewatch on Friday night at the Old Dominion Brewhouse: http://olddominionbrewhouse.com/

It's connected to the convention center and only a short walk from Chinatown. All are welcome.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

well, i'm sure there will be a good contingent of UNH fans at Conte tonight as usual. I think i am looking forward to these two games more than any other regular season games in a few years, should be some great hockey.Good luck guys!

Wish I could make it down tonight (working til 1030), will have to rely on our tiny TV in the newsroom, and the best radio team in the league on the internet. See some of you guys tomorrow night!

Bobby Butler scores game-winning goal and earns #1 star:
http://senators.nhl.com/club/recap.htm?id=2010020962&navid=DL|OTT|home

I watched him against the B's on NESN on Tuesday night: 3 shots, 20 shifts, 18.52 min ice time, including half of the Senator's PP with 3 min left and the extra attacker for the final 50 seconds. Bobby now has 6 goals and 3 assists in 18 games; although he is -12 on the season (-1 on Tuesday night), perhaps that stat will improve if Craig Anderson continues playing well in net.

Scored a couple of tickets for Saturday night to go with my tickets for Conte tonight. :-)

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

Butler's stats since being recalled to the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 9th:
10 GP, 6G-3A-9Pts, +/- of -3.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

From the Foster's article:

"Umile is trying to become the second Hockey East coach to reach 300 league wins. He enters the weekend with 299. Only Boston University's Jack Parker has more with 388. BC's Jerry York has 239."

Let's hope it's a milestone weekend.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

BC brought their A-game and dominated in every aspect of the game. UNH will need to bring theirs tomorrow night.
Only positives:
~ DiGi was incredible and showed why he's one of the top 2 goalies in Hockey East.
~ Moses-Borisenok-Goumas forechecked well and were able to get behind the BC defensemen. The other three lines will need to do that at the Whitt.
