I don’t think she has the money! $240,000 to buy him out when the school is talking budget cuts. Maybe we should have thought about that before we gave him an extension. That too. I don't think Rich has the balls to fire him.

I'm not sure if we've ever gotten clarification on whether MS7 signed a 3 year extension OR a series of three 1 year extensions. If it's the latter, moving on from MS7 could be easier than any of us might have imagined.I don’t think she has the money! $240,000 to buy him out when the school is talking budget cuts. It is a 3 year contract, not three 1 year contracts. I have the contract personally. Buyout for the contract is 1 years salary which is currently $240,000 unless he gets fired for cause.I'm not sure if we've ever gotten clarification on whether MS7 signed a 3 year extension OR a series of three 1 year extensions. Poor coaching just oozed from last night's loss. Watching the post-game interview with Coach Brown, you could almost see him laughing at the bullet his guys had just collectively dodged, and at the largesse of the hosts to let them back into a game they seemed barely invested in.
The GWG was beyond pathetic ... and that it was the second time in the last few weeks a basic goalie mishandle cost UNH a game against a top ranked team, does the staff work with Whale on his puck-handling in PRACTICE?!?!? Oh wait ... is there even a goalie coach this year???
Worse than that ... your guys break a scoreless tie, and get a late PP in the second period ... not saying your goal is to go out and kill your own PP ... but don't you think you respect your opponent, play it situationally smart, and make sure you've got two guys back?!?!?!?!?!?
BC was there for the taking ... and MS7 decided, "we'll pass - thanks for the offer!". Ridiculous, but par for the course, I'm afraid. When you can't even take advantage of teams who are undermotivated and largely going through the motions ... you are in a world of hurt.
And lookie who's next up on the schedule ... Scotty B, waltzing in here to provide the kill shot. And then UMaine and BC again (twice apiece) to clean up what's left of the carcass of UNH Hockey 2024/2025.
Mad at myself for once again falling for the mirage of the dawn of a brand new day in Titletown.
Bigger hockey fish to fry elsewhere anyway, so at least I've got that going for me, which is nice ...![]()
Who would sign 3 one year extensions? Is this even a thing? Sounds like buyers remorse combined with wishful thinking.I'm not sure if we've ever gotten clarification on whether MS7 signed a 3 year extension OR a series of three 1 year extensions. I'll see if I can get more info regarding the contract but have a feeling it's pretty much like the last. Valid points all around Chuck! I do believe there is a goalie coach fwiw dept.
This is like a Flintstone episode...same scenery repeated over and over and over and....
Chuck may have wanted him but I can tell you a lot of UNH fans didn’t. Also 3 year contract signed before this season, seasons almost over which means 2 years left. I know math is hard but that’s what you get for going to UMaine.Who would sign 3 one year extensions? Is this even a thing? Sounds like buyers remorse combined with wishful thinking.
You were so confident UNH was going to prance into Orono last year for the hockey East quarterfinal and beat Maine. Though cautious, you were in favor of the extension after the 20 win season.
You made your bed, now lie in it… spooning Souza.
Four More Years! Four More Years!
I think he’s suggesting an additional four year extension for a total of six more years. UMO fan.Chuck may have wanted him but I can tell you a lot of UNH fans didn’t. This could get much worse for the U:She could be the biggest fan of UNH Men's Hockey, but the reality is she had been left a mess by her predecessor.
He lived through the covid years where there was an influx of MA to NH with remote work. Look at housing values in NH. I am from north of north, but a house 5 years ago that was $70K is now $200.
Let's look at other two wisdom points. Reduced Room and Meals tax from 9% to 8.5%. If you go out to dinner, that saves you 50 cents on a $100. Instead of reducing this, why not redirect that money to USNH, which is poorly funded.
Second part is removing the interest and dividends tax. This does not impact the normal citizen, just the large corporations. Against a cut that was unneeded.
Let's not forget he has pissed off every hospital which most likely will result in a lawsuit over Medicaid and how that is funded.
So while he sits on the high horse saying he cuts taxes it was at the detriment of the entire state. And now he has left a mess for the current UNH Fan.
Side note, is it 7-2 or 8-2 tomorrow? Does BC go for 2 after the touchdown or just kick the PA?
Short of maybe winning it all there’s really nothing that would make me consider an extension a good idea. Hockey East title or not.Probably this season & next season will be duds & then last year of the contract we will see vast improvement. However the stance should be it's titles (HE & above ) or no extension at all.
Actually, no ... I was NEVER in favor of the extension. Some folks on here were resigned to the apparent fact he would be extended, but I wasn't one of them, as I was writing about buyout options for the last two years (still am). I think pretty much everyone was against it, once we learned it was for three years. IF there was a deal to be struck, my tolerance was for a short one year "show me" extension as a Plan B.You were so confident UNH was going to prance into Orono last year for the hockey East quarterfinal and beat Maine. As far as "being sure about beating UMaine in Orono" LOL ... your reading comprehension skills are weak, skippy. What I did - which I've done many times in almost 30 years of being on the various iterations of the USCHO boards - was to write a take on why things could (should?) go in a certain direction. There WAS a case to be made that, with competent coaching, UNH could have snuck up on UMaine and won a game that was MUCH more important for UNH's postseason future than it was for UMaine's, which was basically already going to make the NCAA's. Turns out, the "sneaking up" part probably died when UNH won the two OT games against UMaine a month earlier. AND of course, MS7's lack of real postseason experience was exposed. Can't say I was surprised, but you seem to have taken it super personally.
I've been the biggest Ben Barr fan on this board since before the day UMaine hired him. I was on his bandwagon before at least half of the UMaine-iacs, ferchrissakes. Still am, actually. So think about it, skippy ... why would I discount him OR his team's abilities? In favor of a guy whose next big "postseason" win will be his first?!?!? LOL
You must be one of those dudes who watches the weekly wrasslin' shows and thinks it's all legit and on the level ...![]()
You may be surprised to hear this from me Darius ... but this is precisely the kind of real-world partnerships UNH has been engaging in that makes the case for the viability, usefulness and importance of the U in our community. Now, if you were gonna tell me that UNH was a major beneficiary of the foolishness that's being doled out for Woke causes by USAID (or perhaps in news to come from the DoE?), THEN I would be super concerned about huge cutbacks. But since UNH has actual valuable results they can point to in all the areas you've cited, and hasn't harmed its institutional credibility with an all-in on the climate foolishness (which I think they've mostly avoided), then UNH is among the good guys, at least in my mind. There is always gonna be a streak of liberalism in academia, I get that, but UNH isn't quite over their skiis on that. As a parent of two UNH grads, I'm grateful both received legitimate career-based educations for the money we paid. This could get much worse for the U:
“The federal government was the largest source of funding, sending $157 million to UNH, led by NOAA ($28.3 million), NASA ($25.6 million), the Department of Energy ($25.4 million), the National Science Foundation ($20.6 million) and the National Institutes of Health ($11 million).”

Actually, besides the fact "The Brain" is no longer among the living, I'll take that as a compliment. You resemble Bobby Heenan actually.
Wanted to say national title but we've never done it, so it's hard to be that critical. However I share the sentiment that it's time for a change.Short of maybe winning it all there’s really nothing that would make me consider an extension a good idea. Hockey East title or not.
So you get the lifeline of an offsides review after a terrible shift in your own end and you follow that up with another gong show leading to a goal against...
