They also have a lot more talent than when he got here. AFAIK, he's not in on draft day decisions, and the only free agent that can really be credited to him directly is BrettFavre, but that is a big one.

He has as much say in the personnel decisions as anyone...the whole "Triangle of Authority" that everyone mocked but has pretty much worked to a "T".

Was it only Tice that they didn't allow to make draft decisions?

Well he was only their coach for a year but yes I believe they would not allow him to make any decisions...and for that I aam quite grateful cause Tice was an idiot :D

What are you talking about? He was coach for three or four years. And while the guy sounded like an idiot during press conferences, I was impressed with what he did with the little talent McCombs ever gave him on the field - other than Moss.

I know how long he coached...I said he was only THEIR coach as in the Wilfs who gave Chilli authority but not Tice.

And Tice was a moron, he was a funny guy but he should have never been coach of the team...and barring him be an interim coach when Del Rio gets canned he will never be a head coach in the NFL again.

I think you'll be proven wrong. Tice wasn't ready to be a head coach in the first place. He was just a cheap hire. Didn't he jump from some lines coach or something to head coach? If not, I still stand by my thought. He needs to learn a few more things, but I think he's got the knack for an HC position sometime down the road.

Edit: jumped from O-line coach to HC. No coordinator position, which usually weeds out the haves from the have nots, etc.

Double edit: he had a regular season record of 32-33-0, while going 1-1 in the playoffs

Not too bad at all, given the situation he was handed to him.

I think it has been proven over the past few years that you are never right. How is that 9 win prediction working out for ya for the Vikes? :p

Tice went from line coach to head coach...it was a cheap hire that should never have been made. Notice what he does in Jacksonville...he is the TE coach. He isnt even the offensive coordinator. (he is assistant head coach but we all know that means nothing) He will be a good assistant coach in the league for a while, but he is way to emotional and well, stupid to be a coach for any team that ever wants to be a serious contender.

Maybe he could coach your Bills :D

Well, MN did win 9 games. :p

And I said he wasn't ready, and implied he wasn't ready now. He needs to learn some more, but I think eventually he will become a head coach.

And you're smarter than this: we all know that like all sports, the NFL will go through re-treads and such, and there might be one or two newcomers at best who get a shot at head coaching, no matter how little sense it makes.

I think if Tice went up the ladder in the traditional sense (without that "train-wreck" of a head coaching stint), he probably would be a good coordinator today, and maybe an HC in 7-8 years from now. Yes, that's a long time, but c'mon, not everyone is that Josh McDaniels guy from Denver. :p

Re: (un-) Official Minnesota Vikings 2009-2010 season thread

If Tice had been allowed to pay assistants and players I think he would have been a solid head coach and I don't think he was a buffoon at all. However, the Super Bowl ticket deal, the babying of Moss and the Love Boat fiasco (for instance) did him in here, regardless of how much he was handcuffed by McCombs' tight wallet.

Well look at where he is now. Assistant coach for Jacksonville. If he was a decent coach he would have a head coaching job somewhere now.

BTW SS, way to rep me back so fast a while back. :)

Your point has some validity but I don't think that reason alone disqualifies him just yet. And you're welcome. :)

Agreed.

Biddco that is some circular logic.

Like Mariucci at SF? Or Denny Green (now in the UFL)? Or Jim Fassel (now in the UFL)? All were successful coaches with different style teams, different owner approaches (as to money), and where are they now? Using that reasoning, all of those coaches suck arse. ;)

I'm just saying.:D

Hahaha, I didn't know Denny was in the UFL!

Just pointing them out. I thought Tice was an average coach, with Zigy he probably could have been better. Plus Tice was hilarious! KQ made fun of him all the time and it made me laugh. So just for that I like him.

Yeah, somehow caught part of a game on VS a couple weeks ago, and Fassel/Denny were the coaches (apparently the marquee coaches of the league), and I believe Losman was the QB for Denny (their "face of the league" player). Yeah.

Aside from actual coaching, Tice was great. Pencil in the ear, emotional, tough-guy coach, I loved it. :)

Ugly football game.
How much did the Vikes miss Winfield....wow. Nice touch on the push-ups. :)

I disagree. The Vikings played nearly a complete game and looked pretty good, IMO.
