UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

This is a bit weird ... not sure I've seen too many kids commit to a program where there's no current coach.

@MikeMcMahonCHN
‘99 G James Corcoran, who formerly played at Walpole HS (now at Winchendon) and was at @NHLBruins Development Camp last summer commits to @MerrimackMIH @WHSRebelHockey

I wonder if the Hawks are looking at Vilho Saariluoma. He had 52 points (26-26-52) in 33 games this season for Cushing.

Neutral Zone feature article on Eric Green:
https://nzprephockey.com/2018/03/23...successful-senior-year-to-college-commitment/

“I loved the coaching staff, coach [Norm] Bazin, coach [Cam] Ellsworth, coach [Andy] Jones. I was a huge fan of all of them,” Green said. “They have a great history, especially with goalies, and just in general a very successful program. I was excited to be a part of that. They really did their homework on me and they showed that they were interested in me by watching a lot of video on me, coming and seeing me play, taking the time, or taking more time on my tour than other schools had. It felt good as a player to see them putting a lot into me, because that makes it easier for me to put a lot into the program.”

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Lowell gets a commit for 2019 from Andranik Armstrong, currently at Kimball Union. Neutral Zone has him as a 4* prospect, and at 5'9", 185 pounds.

One of the Neutral Zone Scouts said this about him a month ago (Feb 26th), while giving him an A- grade in their prep report for this past season:
"Andranik Armstrong #21 (F, L, Kimball Union, 1999, Sr)-Armstrong continues to show improvement now as a senior at KUA. His calling card has always been his acceleration: his strides are short since he is 5’9, but he has the ability to not only skate by you but away from you. He gets a really strong push from his plant leg and that enables him to get to loose pucks faster than most. He also has gotten better and stronger in puck possession, using low leverage to keep the puck on his stick for longer. His straight-line speed can draw penalties but it can also be a pain to play against him on the defensive because he limits your time with the puck. Hard worker who is quick to the puck. Versatile player who is on an upward trend."

USHR tweeted this about him in December of 2017:
@USHRhockey
KUA senior F Andranik Armstrong named MVP of the F-M Tournament. When the top forward and leader on a team as good as KUA has no college deal, something is amiss. Could it be that all the early commitments are squeezing out top seniors? Armstrong is a D-I player -- for someone!

And NE Hockey Journal's Jeff Cox had this to say earlier this month:
"Andranik Armstrong
#21 Kimball Union, Sr., C, 5/1/99, Shoots Left, 5-9/190

Armstrong continues to prove people, including this observer, wrong. He’s undersized, but he plays heavy. Both of his goals on Sunday were directly the result of going straight to the net. One was a tip and one was a rebound. He’s quick and can separate from defenders. His progression at KUA has been remarkable. He made a few nice passes out front from behind the net after winning battles. Some coaches are higher on him than others, but expect a commitment shortly."

Great news, sounds like a very nice player. Armstrong was also named a NZPrep First Team All-Star along with fellow recruit Eric Green. Former Lowell / Maine head coach Tim Whitehead is the head coach at Kimball Union.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

NZ's official tweet on Armstrong just came out.

@_Neutral_Zone
4⭐️ prospect Andranik Armstrong commits to @RiverHawkHockey. Hhigh compete F with quick hands & feet. Exploits space w/ pace and succeeds in traffic. KUA F is tough to play against and earned an A- in Prep 2 and A in NE Prep tournament.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Go Lowell! They still have that microbrew place with pool tables up top? ;)

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Whitehead said Armstrong-Kingkade's fitness level is off the charts. During preseason training, Armstrong-Kingkade squatted 405 pounds three times before Whitehead stopped him.

That is insane weight at his age and frame. Looks like Norm is plugging the hole of weakness this team showed this year, durability, endurance, strength, and athleticism. I believe he tried out for a USHL team last year I wanna say Dubuque I wonder if he gets invited back to a camp this year.
