UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

It will be interesting to see how many kids leave the program this off season. I can't say I'm particularly excited about any of next year's incoming class. Blackmun and Stefanson look like the more promising ones. You never know until they show up.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Interesting point about the defense, Bob. Updating that list for the upcoming year:
Defense (10):
Senior: Avni Berisha, Niklas Folin
Juniors: Mattias Goransson
Sophomore: Anthony Baxter, Croix Evingson, Jonathan Waring
Freshmen: Chase Blackmun, Cale List, Jonathan McDonald, Nolan Sawchuk

Considering that Waring has only played one game, I'd wonder if he'll be back?

That makes 11 defensemen now with the addition of Procopio. I agree about Waring and since Blackmun is a '99 I could see him coming in a year later. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Procopio is currently second in the NAHL in defensemen scoring and was a teammate of Croix Evingson last season at Shreveport.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Recruits Matt Brown and Dominick Procopio have been chosen to play in the NAHL Top Prospects tournament that will be held at the end of the month. Procopio will play for the South Division squad and Brown will play for the NAHL Selects Red squad.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

From today's Sun article on defensemen Forney, Mueller and Panico.
Mueller, Forney and Panico developed a strong bond shortly after arriving in Lowell prior to the 2014-15 season. Six players remain from a 14-person freshmen class.

Here's a list of that 2014-2015 freshmen class.

1 Jeff Smith
2 Tommy Panico
3 Chris Forney
4 Tyler Mayea
5 Tyler Mueller
6 Dylan Hollman
7 Gage Hough
8 Lucas Kohls
9 Michael Louria
10 C.J. Smith
11 Jake Kamrass
12 Ryan Collins
13 John Edwardh
14 Olli Kalkaja

CJ aside, Louria is the one player from that group I wish was still on the team.

CJ aside, Louria is the one player from that group I wish was still on the team.

Louria put up 26 points (12-14-26) in 34 games for Robert Morris this season. Goaltender Jeff Smith (11-2-4, 2.62, .910) is another one from that class. He's currently sharing the goaltending duties for #1 St Cloud State.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Bit confused on this one.

@Eric_Green30
I’m proud to have committed to play college hockey at UMass Lowell next season. Thank you to all those who have helped me reach this point in my career! #goriverhawks

He's a '99 goalie, but just played at NMH this past season. And I'm not confused as to him coming to Lowell, just timing. He's not played juniors yet, and was actually just tendered in December...

@NJHitmen
Jersey Hitmen NCDC team is proud to announce their 4th tender for the 18-19 @USPHL season as the team has inked 6’5in 210lb G @Eric_Green30 The current standout @NMHHockey is top 5 in nearly every NE Prep goaltending category. Welcome to Jersey, Eric! #NJH #212

Edit to add some more: Eric was listed by the Hockey News as a possible draft pick this season, link here. He was also the Neutral Zone Prep Goalie of the Year this season.

Both strong players. I've watched them play a couple of time over the past two seasons. They will be very good additions to Coach Bazin's team.

Thanks for this. It's always tough to set expectations when coming from a "lower" league. Not saying that every kid from the USHL is great, but you do have to work the odds.

Great news, my guess is he'll play for the Hitmen (NCDC) next season.

Like I said, I'm confused by this one. Next season would make sense to me. But Eric's tweet says next season. Also, this NMH tweet...

@NMHHockey
He's a RiverHawk! Eric Green '18 has committed to #UMassLowell for this Fall!
#GoRiverHawks #GoNMH
