UML Recruiting, 2017+

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

Recruit Trevor Zins is now playing for the Topeka Roadrunners (NAHL). Zins was scoreless in 9 games for Cedar Rapids (USHL) with a -16 (+/-). He is scoreless in 2 games for Topeka.

http://nahl.com/game-center/player?playerId=4503&season=38

UMLFan pointed this out a few weeks back

That would put us at 10 d-men for next season (if List, Evingson and Zins all come in), which seems a lot. I'd venture Zins or List (both '98s) could be pushed a year?

It seems like Trevor is going to need at least another year of juniors before coming to Lowell.

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

Oh, I must have missed it.

You didn't miss anything. I must have done a poor job trying to get my point across. UMLfan pointed out that if all of the D recruits came in next season, we would have 10 on the roster and he thought Zins or List might be pushed back a year.

As a follow up to that comment, I was pointing out Trevor's performance this season may make him the candidate to be pushed to the 18-19 season.

Got it, I agree. Thanks

The Heisenberg site is now showing Zins as a 2017 or 2018.

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

NU picked up twin brothers as commits recently (2001 born), while UMass (a '97) and Maine (a '98) also picked up commits.

As of now, here's the future commits, for all years starting incoming 2017 for each of the HE schools (well, those that will be in HE next year):
BC: 19
BU: 19
UConn: 10
Maine: 21
UMass: 14
Lowell: 4
Merrimack: 11
UNH: 11
NU: 21
PC: 19
UVM: 21

One of these things is not like the others ...

Not trying to be a wise guy, but one other thing that is not like anything ever in history of program:

4 NCAA Tournament appearances in 5 years. Lowell has won a game in each appearance and made FF once. I think Lowell's recruiting philosophy is just fine.

I think it's ok for the fans to be confused/concerned. Obviously we're all ecstatic at what this coaching group has been able to do, but that doesn't mean we can't raise concerns.

We're all aware of the success of the past 5 years.

As UML Puck Hawk already noted ... we do understand that.

I think many of us thought we'd see a jump in recruiting, and it just seems strange that they're proceeding so slowly. Obviously the kids they're bringing in are working out. But it's tough not to note the discrepancy in the numbers.

True, but one of those UVM commits has already de-committed (number isn't 21 any longer)... By recruiting so many, a lot of those kids will hit and miss. Norm wants the right guys and there are plenty if you wait and have a 20/21 y.o. freshman who can come in and play the system right away as opposed to striking out on a 1/3 of the kids you expected to be good.

Look at BC's classes that graduated the past 2 years. Lots of would-be and are NHLers but also several flops in there that were great 15-16 year olds who didn't develop.

Another new commit from the Shreveport Mudbugs:
http://www.nahl.com/news/story.cfm?id=19294

97' Forward Eriks Zohovs of Latvia:
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=214720

Good news. Eriks is currently tied for the league lead in points in the NAHL. He has 24 points (11-13-24) in 16 games.
http://nahl.com/game-center/player-...tandard&sort=points&league=1&position=skaters

Evaluation on Zohovs:

Eriks has a lot of skill and plays the game with excellent skating and quick, creative hands. He is still learning the North American game and tends to expose the puck too much. He is still learning to manage the game and be more patient. He has upside and DI potential. The Latvian native has represented his country in junior international competition. He is a player to keep and eye on going forward as he moves to the NAHL this year.

Thanks for this Bob.

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

A new recruit, this one will be on next year's team.

1996 born RW Connor Sodergren, 6'1, 195 pounds. Currently plays for West Kelowna in the BCHL, but he's originally from Tewksbury. He played for St. Paul's School at the high school level and has been at West Kelowna for two years. This year, he's at 10-13-23 in 27 games, and was 8-22-30 in 58 games played last season (with a 6-7-13 in 24 playoff games). Originally he was committed to Army.

Jeff Cox had this to say about him a couple of years ago:
"The captain of the NEPSIHA Large School runner-up, the Tewksbury, Mass. native brings a lot of the intangibles to the table. He has good size and decent finishing ability. He projects as a third or fourth liner with the potential to add occasional offense at the NCAA level."

Sounds like a good character depth player.

Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+
