UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Brockville continues its amazing run with a 9-1 win in Game 2 of the CJHL semis, scoring 8 times in the second. Shayne Thompson had a single assist in the game.

Cornwall tied their semifinal series at 1 game each with a 2-1 win, Doug Carr making 23 saves for the win.

In the USHL, Sioux Falls (no points for Chad Ruhwedel and Josh Holmstrom) won 5-3 at Waterloo (Derek Arnold had an assist).

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Is the process of "rebuilding" going to hurt recruiting down the line, like Monty mentioned?
I've read in basketball and football, that kids pay attention really starting their 2nd/3rd years of high school towards how college teams are doing. A year of bad results won't kill those programs, but a couple of years straight can definitely affect your recruiting class.

In hockey, I think it might be even earlier, since there's so few programs out there (as you see from how early kids commit). Meaning you really could screw the pooch for a couple of years down the line by not getting results now. Think about how many early commits we had this year. Think about the fact that we set a record for the earliest ever commit, and then broke it just a couple of months later (albeit by brothers).

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Julian Melchiori's Newmarket Hurricanes are up 2-1 in the CCHL finals, after winning 2-0 this evening. Melchiori was a +1.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

UML recruits from last night:

In the USHL, Sioux Falls won 5-1 with Josh Holmstrom getting a 1-1-2 and the third star for Sioux Falls, with a +2. Chad Ruhwedel was even and had no points.

Derek Arnold's Waterloo team won 4-0 over Colton Saucerman's Des Moines team. Saucerman was a -1, while Arnold had two assists for the winners.

In the CJHL playoffs, Brockville is now up 3-0 in the semifinal series against Ottawa. Shayne Thompson had a 1-2-3 for the Braves, who haven't lost in the playoffs (7-0).

Nick Curry and the Springfield Jr. Blues regular season is over (the NAHL is playing out their season this weekend), and they have made the playoffs as the fourth (and final) seed in their division.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

In the other CJHL semifinal series, Cornwall lost 3-2 in OT, with Doug Carr making 35 saves on 38 shots. He was named the #2 star. Cornwall trails 2-1 in the series.

In the USHL, Sioux Falls lost 4-3 in OT. Josh Holmstrom had an assist for the and was even, while Chad Ruhwedel had no points, but was a +1.

Des Moines won 4-3 as Colton Saucerman was a -1.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Julian Melchiori (-1) had no points, but Newmarket took a 3-2 lead in the CCHL Finals last night with a 6-4 win.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

CCHL Finals could be decided tonight, as Newmarket has a 3-2 lead in the series. They play at Bowmanville tonight, every game has been won by the home team so far. Game 7 (if needed) would be tomorrow night at Newmarket.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

A blog on the NHL site has this about Central Scouting's prospects:
All the players under each league were voted into the top 10 of that particular league and, according to Central Scouting, were exceptional among their peers

UML recruit Julian Melchiori is listed as one of the Top 10 players in the Canadian Junior/Midget system. This kid's going to be a good one.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

I saw this over in the RPI thread. The Jr. Monarchs participated in the Junior A Nationals tournament this past weekend going 2-1-1. In his only start, Chris Eiserman had a shutout on Friday against Boulder stopping 11 shots. The Monarchs won the game 10-0 and out shot Boulder 62-11.

Bill Eiserman was held scoreless with 4 PIM in the 4 games.

It'll be interesting to see if Chris Eiserman takes over the #1 goalie spot for the Monarchs next year. If he does, it'll say a lot for his future at Lowell.

the kid in front of him is a full goal better and .040 better save % but is a year older than Chris. Would be nice to see but that's quite a gap.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Billett next season. BC looks solid in net with Muse and Milner. The also have a freashman on the roster in Venti and have another recruit Barone coming in.

FYI - I believe that's Tim Corcoran's brother, Brendan who just committed to Colgate.

Thanks for the info. Your thoughts on his strengths/weaknesses?

Furlong played for Catholic Memorial for a couple of years it would appear. He's only 19, so no idea if he'd be coming in next season or for 2011. He's a '91 birthdate.

I'm almost thinking we're getting to the way too many in the Class of 2014 again.

Great kid, great teammate and very accountable on the development of his game.

Long road to get where he is as he qwent from CM(varsity as an 8th grader) to GDA and then started out in USHL with Sioux Falls last year. A move that surprised many. Expected him to stay local. Has adjusted very well and has had many key goals for team, including a couple ot game winners, currently second on d for team in points and leads all d in goals.

Plus minus is a little soft(hard stat to rate on) as he is only D on team with a minus, D in front of him in scoring is a +24.

Does everything well, very complete player. Type of player coaches like in line up as they keep it simple.

saw this on him recently and was waiting for someone to scoop him up.... Better than Rayner and a few others and would expect him to stick in the line up

I'm not sure if it's right, but the Heisenberg site is currently showing Furlong as coming in next season.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Bringing this thread back up from way back and updating...

A look ahead to 2010/2011.

Here's what our roster would currently look like, and if someone spots a mistake, let me know:

Defense (9):
Seniors: Ryan Blair, Maury Edwards
Juniors: Tim Corcoran
Sophomores: Chris Ickert, Colin Wright
Freshmen: Daniel Furlong, Julian Melchiori, Will Rayner, Chad Ruhwedel

Forwards (17):
Seniors: Scott Campbell, Patrick Cey, Jason DeLuca,
Juniors: Michael Budd, Matt Ferreira, Michael Scheu, David Vallorani,
Sophomores: Joe Caveney, Robert Visca, Riley Wetmore
Freshmen: Derek Arnold, Tyler Brickler, Nick Curry, Josh Holmstrom, Derek McCoy, Joe Pendanza, Shayne Thompson

Goalies (3):
Sophomore: T.J. Massie
Freshman: Marc Boulanger, Doug Carr

So at this point, that leaves us at 29 on the roster. Wondering at this point if that's it? I'm also wondering if these last couple of pickups are just to be safe in case Soup or Edwards leave?

Thoughts? Also you have to figure, we already have our two D recruits to replace Blair and Edwards in 2011.
