UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

If he comes in for a visit and this team can pick up it's collective sack and play a good game in front of a lively crowd, they can convince someone to commit.

That is kind of surprising as both his parents are teachers and very well grounded. That can though happen when kids drift away from traditional schools and go juniors. He did stay close to home as he was an Ottawa kid growing up but I know there was some home schooling going on a few years ago.

He is absurdly small, more so then his stats claim.

Interesting development but if he doesnt end up at UML, I wouldnt worry about it to much.

That's a pretty good set of schools that are interested in the kid. So who knows.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

and there goes Lowell's shot.
Maybe. But to be fair, Lowell's won a couple of recruiting battles against teams that they normally wouldn't (Wallin's a good example).

We may not have the education background (tradition) that some of the other schools on the list do, but it's still a **** good school. On top of that, it's going to be a young team next year (:o) so he'll get a chance to play immediately.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

He can forget Princeton and Yale and maybe UVM

Home schooling is a joke and parents who try and pull it off get dinged by NCAA

Harvard would never have recruited him if he was a train wreck academically. This smells to me like they gave him a verbal offer provided he got his SAT score up to X,XXX...and he may failed to do that.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Can we please not question this kid's education? He didn't get into Harvard ... since getting into that school is tougher than Northeastern winning the Beanpot*, let's just leave that speculation out of it.

*Couldn't resist. :)

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

If, as some have surmised, that he had test score issues with Harvard, then admission to Princeton or Yale are uphill battles as well.

Well, if scores are the reason then it has to be BC. :p

Lowell is actually pretty tough to get into academically. Thay had a program briefly that supported students who were metsametsa (Fillion) but that went by the wayside as far as I know

Lowell is tough for Engineering, maybe Sound Recording, and I don't know about nursing. Everything else... I'm pretty sure I can get a house cat admitted.

As it was said, Harvard wouldn't have pursued if they didn't think they could get him in. Right now I'd say its more about availability of opportunity and I'm sure having a foot in at Lowell helps if you're worried about admission elsewhere.

Of course I'd like him to come to Lowell because we're awesome and it'll be another boost in our awesomeness but the world don't work like that.

Depending on the program. Engineering, nursing, etc. yeah, it's tough. But if you want to go in as an English or CJ major, not as tough (just look at UML Goon and Patronick).

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Here's hoping Lowell goes on a nice winning streak right now and Calof notices. :)

Anyway, more recruit info:
  • Marc Boulanger had 27 saves on 29 shots for the Olds Grizzlys in a 5-2 win in the AJHL.
  • Tyler Brickler had no points in Westside's 4-2 loss in the BCHL.
  • Julian Melchiori had no points in Newmarket's 2-1 OT win in the CCHL.
  • Will Rayner had an assist in Lincoln's 5-2 loss in the USHL.
  • Derek Arnold had 2 goals and an assist in Waterloo's 5-1 win.
  • Josh Holmstrom had an assist in Sioux Falls 3-1 win. Chad Ruhwedel had no points in the same game.
  • Scott Wilson had 2 goals in Georgetown's 6-5 loss in the OJHL. He was named the third star.
  • Shayne Thompson had himself a 5 point night, with a 1-4-5 in Brockville's 9-4 win in the CJHL. That was good enough to get him the second star.
  • Nick Curry had no points in Springfield's 4-1 loss in the NAHL.
Uncommitted Andrew Calof had a 1-1-2 for Nepean last night in their loss.

Terrence Wallin had 3 points (2-1-3) in a 5-0 win over Loomis-Chaffee yesterday. Wallin currently has 28 points (12-16-28). Gunnery plays again today.

I understand that four feral dogs were admitted as freshmen at UML this year. Two made the Dean's list in the first semester. The other two spent so much time posting on USCHO that they just missed.*

*I, too, couldn't resist.:)
