UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

No radio show? I was hoping to hear something about the next season schedule. I hope it's better than RIT, Niagara and Bentley. I understand it may help build confidence but I would rather play a tougher schedule.

I just took a look at the 2006/2007 NC schedule which was the freshman season of this large graduating class.
2x @ UMD
Omaha Stampede
Northern Michigan & Niagara
St Lawrence
@ Union
@ RPI
Denver Cup
Brown & Denver

The team went 1-5-3 in those NC games, Four of the five loses were by 1 goal, somethings never change.

No radio show (technical difficulties at the radio station last night) but the non-conference schedule will be discussed next week.

hearing benny has agreed to sign with the philadelphia flyers. nothing official yet.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Maybe I am a little biased growing up and watching some of the great Lowell teams at Tully, but I think UML could work out some deals with BU or UNH to get a western team in to play one then the other. Northeastern got in on a deal with BC to play North Dakota and/or Wisconsin and I know UMass-Amherst got in a deal with BU to play Michigan.

Anyways, I'd rather see St. Lawrence, Colgate, RPI, Union, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and Yale then Bentley, HC, UCONN who MC and UML have played recently.

Although Lowell has played some of the AHA & CHA teams over the past few years it seems like Merrimack has really loaded up their schedule with these teams.

According to the Warrior Rink Rat site, Merrimack will play at Denver and CC in 2011. I wonder if another team (Lowell) will make the trip as well.

I've heard it was a 2-year deal, and that Schaus signed a 1-year deal with San Jose.

It will be interesting to see where Hutton ends up, his size and mobility not to mention his great numbers suggest he could be yet another HE goalie to make the NHL.
Maple Leaf GM Burke was at the second VT game in Sec W with two other scouts, at the time I was thinking they may have been there for Irwin or the younger Stalberg but perhaps it was Hutton they were checking out.

Hope they weren't there to see Holmstrom and his 4 minutes pre hit from behind major.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

They have him has a D?

I would not put too much stock into that, most of the time Adirondack lists 5-7 right wings each night in the stats sheets.

I hope he does well there, the current coach is allowing the boys to be more physical and to forecheck than Paddock did last season.

If Hutton doesn't get signed then there is something very wrong with NHL scouts

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

What a joke. Hockey East gives the Defensive Defenseman aware to Justin Braun over Jeremy Dehner.

It was universe does that come close to making sense? Braun was a +7 in HE, and just a +3 overall. Dehner was +12 HE and +15 overall.

Ridiculous.

Very ironic that I actually have tickets that were given to me for that Saturday March 27th game vs the Phantoms. I hope the best for him and that he just doesn't stick around the AHL for a couple years and goes to Europe then calls it a career. I hope Hutton gets signed soon too. Any idea where he might end up?

Aside from the fact that both are excellent pllayers who could both be called deserving of the award, why on earth would you try to use +/- to prove this? That's what is ridiculous.

There are better ways to measure such things (see Ryan for this), but even if Dehner deserved it, you really sell Braun short with your 'incredulous' response. Propably the top two defensemen in HE, and certainly the two most relied upon.

Maybe they should have given it to Dumoulin (+24) then?
