UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

No radio show? I was hoping to hear something about the next season schedule. I hope it's better than RIT, Niagara and Bentley. I understand it may help build confidence but I would rather play a tougher schedule.

I just took a look at the 2006/2007 NC schedule which was the freshman season of this large graduating class.
2x @ UMD
Omaha Stampede
Northern Michigan & Niagara
St Lawrence
@ Union
@ RPI
Denver Cup
Brown & Denver

The team went 1-5-3 in those NC games, Four of the five loses were by 1 goal, somethings never change.

What's that entail?

Here's the info.
Dear Friend of UMass Lowell Hockey:

The UMass Lowell Center Ice Club would like to invite you to our 1st Annual Reverse Raffle on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The raffle social will be held at the Tsongas Center. Please join us and bring a guest for an evening of socializing, entertainment, an open bar (beer, wine, and soda), all-you-can-eat hors d’oeuvres and, of course, the Reverse Raffle, all inclusive for $110.00

The evening will be very entertaining and we can’t overlook the lucky cash recipients! A total of $5,000 in cash and prizes will be given out on April 10. Our goal is to make this event more than just a fundraiser by having the Reverse Raffle become the social event of the hockey season and serve as a way to bring our alumni, Center Ice Club members, parents, and friends together for an evening of fun. Please plan on joining us and making this event a success.

Here is how the Reverse Raffle works. Each ticket number (1-175) will have a corresponding ping-pong ball entered into a raffle drum. Balls will be drawn from the raffle drum throughout the evening until one ball remains. The holder of this lucky numbered ping-pong ball will claim the cash prize. Additionally, during the evening, there will be other miscellaneous prizes given out during the countdown to the final number.

Please join us in supporting UMass Lowell Hockey with a night out with a guest, unlimited hors d’oeuvres, open bar, entertainment and, of course, your chance to win the cash prize.

To purchase your ticket, please fill out the included application and send a check payable to: Center Ice Club c/o Katie Gill, UMass Lowell Hockey Office, 300 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tsongas Center, Lowell, MA 01852. Requests will be honored for specific numbers on a first come, first served basis. You will be sent a confirmation along with your ticket # prior to raffle. You do not need to be present to win the grand prize but you do need to be present to win any of the miscellaneous prizes given out during the evening.

Thank you for your support,
Blaise MacDonald and Bill Riley

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

They are also planning their 1st Annual Reverse Raffle on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Tsongas.

That's how I won my love sac when I was a student.

Let's all be adults and keep certain comments to yourselves...

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Bentley? Niagara? Seriously? What, was AIC booked? We have got to start playing better non-league competition. You don't get better by playing the dregs on D1 hockey.

i have to imagine blaise has solid relationships with these people... though that makes me wonder about his relationship with the ECAC coaches. Nevertheless, these other teams are more likely to give us home games. Personally, I'd rather trade home dates with ECAC teams than to play an AHA team every year.

my ideal schedule

2 WCHA/CCHA dates
2-4 ECAC dates
1 other... probably AHA

A tournament can serve to tweak this but I'd prefer to do it on the back of the ECAC/AHA pool. I don't want to see multiple AHA teams. As it looks, we'll have 3 on the schedule in RIT, Niagara, and Bentley.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Word on the street is both Holmstrom and Schaus have signed pro deals. Unable to find info on teams or terms yet.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

BTW, UMass has lost Wellman to the Wild after just two years. There's rumors that Marcou might be gone as well.

Yeha Wellman signed with the wild for 900,000. I think Marcou should leave now because both of them played on the same line hence why Marcou had a lot of points this year.

Also it sucks that we can not get any good nonconference games. We need some sort of pairwise booster. Im looking foward to the likes of TJ Massie in goal next year.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

I would think Lowell has as good of a chance to get decent teams into play them at home as any team in the league - outside of the "Big 4." It is a short drive from Logan if you fly in from the west and it is a beautiful, new rink.

I went to both Minnesota-Duluth games a few years ago and will try to go to one of the MSU-Mankato games if Merrimack isn't playing at home.

I've been very disappointed with the home schedule Merrimack has played recently, as well, including so many games against AHA teams.

As a fan, I'd much rather see a CCHA, ECAC, WCHA team.

not how they think of it... the home dates bit is about money and we can't guarantee the western teams enough to make it worth their while. Maybe since we're drawing better we can start to see it tilt in our favor... but I think it'll be a cold day in hell before we get DU, NoDak, Minnesota, Wisco, or CC into our barn.

Maybe I am a little biased growing up and watching some of the great Lowell teams at Tully, but I think UML could work out some deals with BU or UNH to get a western team in to play one then the other. Northeastern got in on a deal with BC to play North Dakota and/or Wisconsin and I know UMass-Amherst got in a deal with BU to play Michigan.

Anyways, I'd rather see St. Lawrence, Colgate, RPI, Union, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and Yale then Bentley, HC, UCONN who MC and UML have played recently.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Would not be surprised that the Niagara/RIT would be away and the Bentley game being at home....just a guess.

I'm pretty sure UML and 'mack are heading out to western NY to play RIT (makes sense since RIT went out to UML a few years ago and Blaise is an RIT Alum, who won a National Championship with the Tigers), not sure about Niagara (makes sense though)

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

While Lowell's going to have a rough season next year, UMass is having players get out left and right. Wellman's gone, Marcou could be next and now Matt Irwin's a possibility to leave?
