UML Offseason Begins

Re: UML Offseason Begins

I'm going to be ****ed if all Hockey East teams don't get a shot at this, the remaining 4 next season.
I wonder if it will ever happen. The novelty is bound to wear off sooner or later. I wonder how the attendance will be this year. It must cost the league a few dollars to put this on.

The novelty might wear off it's the same teams each time, but this would give every school's alums, students and fans a chance to see their program at Fenway. Plus it can't hurt in recruiting.

Agree, hopefully the league gives every school a shot.

Speaking of recruiting, it looks like Nate Leaman has been busy at PC.
Providence has another recruit for fall ’13 in 6’0”, 175 lb. Niko Rufo who, like Nick Ellis, is coming off a strong showing at last week’s Beantown Summer Classic

Yeah I saw those two pickups. Rufo is a C grade from the 2012 early NHL scouting... Leaman now has picked up four 2013 recruits since he took over at PC, and one for 2012. He's picked up 5 for this season as well as one returning junior and one transfer from Notre Dame.

He's had a head start. I would imagine many of these recruits were on his radar at Union. Hopefully the new Lowell staff can get going on 2012 and 2013 as well.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

I'd be curious to know how many players he has disinvited to return this year and whether or not they and others have had their scholarships "modified" to pay for the new 2011 recruits. I still have distant memories of Steve Cedorchuck's spending spree at BC.

Yeah, we're waiting for them to send out the press release about the incoming freshmen as well as updating the roster. There's already a couple of players that have left.

That I don't doubt ... but it will always be a comparison point as to how these two new coaches do over the next few years, especially if the rumors of Leaman being a candidate at Lowell were true.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

Being the Providence fan that i am, Leaman has generated quite a bit of excitement for me and other fans ive spoke to. At the moment he seems to be the coach that we've been waiting for since Mcshane or maybe even Lamoriello. The way recruits are jumping to Providence is something we havent seen in a long time. The one caution i have is i was excited when Army was hired, but he never recruited like this. People seem to really want to play for Leaman no matter where he is at.

I think everyone believes he's a good coach and a good recruiter. We'll see how it plays out.

That's the difference, we'd like to think that Bazin is a good coach and a good recruiter, but we have no proof of that yet (and by that I mean recruiting as a head coach, not an assistant).

Re: UML Offseason Begins

Finally! :)

Doesn't look like anyone else has been taken off the roster after a quick glance. Lowell now has 32 players on the roster; 19 forwards, 9 blueliners and 4 goalies. There's definitely a bench this year ... if you don't play well, there's someone willing to take your spot.

Will be interesting to see if Chris Eiserman still comes in next year, with three goalies in front of him (not counting Massie).

Re: UML Offseason Begins

So where did Butler, Heffron, Ickert & Scheu go?
All were expected to be gone about three weeks ago (when they updated their roster, without the freshmen).

No surprise on Butler or Heffron, Ickert and Scheu there was a bit of a surprise, but both really didn't play a lot (one due to injuries).

USHR liked the play of Al Butler at the recent Beantown Summer Classic (Pro Division). It looks like he's heading back to the Jr Bruins.

I'm not sure about the others.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

So with the roster officially out now, here's where Lowell stands for 2011/2012.

Defense (9):
Senior: Tim Corcoran
Juniors: Malcolm Lyles
Sophomores: Rob Badger, Daniel Furlong, Chad Ruhwedel
Freshmen: William Eiserman, Zach Kamrass, Micki Mihailovich, Jake Suter

Forwards (19):
Seniors: Michael Budd, Matt Ferreira, David Vallorani,
Juniors: Joe Caveney, Riley Wetmore, Colin Wright
Sophomores: Derek Arnold, Nick Curry, Cam Gaudet, Josh Holmstrom, Derek McCoy, Joe Pendanza, Shayne Thompson
Freshmen: Tyler Brickler, Stephen Buco, Mike Conderman, Christian Cowles, Terrence Wallin, Scott Wilson

Goalies (4):
Junior: T.J. Massie
Sophomores: Marc Boulanger, Doug Carr
Freshman: Brian Robbins
So at this point, that leaves us at 33 on the roster.

The class breakdown in 2011:
Seniors: 4
Juniors: 5
Sophomores: 11
Freshmen: 12

And as of right now, we have 3 commits for 2012: G Chris Eiserman, F Ryan McGrath and D Corey Scammon (who could be coming in 2013). So we have 31 on the roster for the 2012/2013 season, assuming all of the above come back which I still think is doubtful.

And I noticed they've moved Wright to a forward on the roster so that is why he's listed there here.

That's one ugly looking blue line.

Ickert headed back to British Columbia to go to medical school.
