UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Our seats are also on penalty box side, not far from where refs view replays. I noticed one of the refs seemed to have a phone up to his ear as though he was in consultation with someone. Does anyone know who it might have been? Is there another room with replay's happening perhaps? I doubt there is a Toronto like warroom as in nhl, or maybe so? This was in that delay with 7.5 seconds left,...after the hit on carpenter.

He may have been talking to the person who controls the video replay. There were probably various camera angles to look /re-look at. Maybe the substitute official (Gravellese) got involved in the discussion? I'm not sure why the review took so long as the hit seemed to be pretty obvious. Maybe they were sorting out the other penalties?

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

My first guess was with someone from league office about a rules thing. Perhaps with regards to GMs and supplemental discipline.

or place a pizza delivery to coincide with their return to the hotel!! game WAS almost over, right? :)

IMO, it was almost certainly the scrums after. The box score showed multiple 5min roughing calls and GMa. Kind of them to not call fighting

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Do you come out with chips on shoulders throwing bodies around today or will that draw ticky tack calls from Refs who will be trying to grab control early after last night's sh*t storm? Guessing its back to Hernberg?

Agreed one both counts. I think they wanted to watch a replay of the aftermath, as much as the hit itself. And it was VERY kind of them not to cal fighting, especially on Farabee, who had me yelling obscenities at him - I was really worried that he was going to get a DQ. And as evidenced recently, he is far and away the most skilled forward on our team.

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

\WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Hockey East announced today that UMass Lowell freshman forward Lucas Condotta (Georgetown, Ont.) has been suspended for one game stemming from an incident at 19:52 of the third period on Saturday, March 16 against Boston University. Condotta will miss the game on Sunday, March 17 against Boston University and be eligible to return to the River Hawks lineup in their next game

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Bad and dumb hit by Condotta at that point in the game. Walk away, take the win and play for Sunday. I don't know the reason for that hit.

Overall a good game for Lowell. Finally showed some life, and found the net. Fell apart at moments, but this team has generally done that most of the year. That blind back-pass on the power play that led to the SG for BU was abysmal (Barton, I believe?).

Good to see the upperclassmen step up though, playing for their lives.

Let's win another one today.

I am hoping that the refs visit each locker room before warmups to set expections and Q&A regarding this. I don't know if this is a thing or not but it would be nice if the teams knew where they stood before stepping on the ice and waiting for the first call or two. At very least, expect a conversation with the two captains at the ref's crease during warmups.

I think they need the energy but gotta be leashed. These guys are still very young, all things considered, so rashness may be hard to control but I think they gotta come out with speed and hitting. There were a LOT of solid, clean hits amonst the stuff that went too far; that's what we need.

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Maybe they were sorting out the other penalties?

They handed out four additional 5 min roughing majors/Game misconducts for the scrum afterwards, two per team. I think the delay was more figuring out who deserved what and seeing if anything deserved a fighting major. Honestly, it's better they took the time to see if it warranted fighting because suspending four players for today's game for a retaliation scrum would have an extraordinary impact.

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

I wouldn't expect a lot of penalties today unless the game itself gets out of hand. Refs won't call a lot.

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

Last nights lines

Dimo-Sodergren-Levesque

O'Neill - Lohin - Reid

O'Rourke - Lucas - Schutz

Wilson - Master - Hausinger

I assume we saw Knoblauch get reinserted today but where does he go and who is going to center the third line where Lucas would be?

Every line played pretty well last night so this is hard for me to fool around with but I think it should look something like this

Dimo-Sodergren-Levesque

O'Neill - Lohin - Hausinger

Wilson - Master - Schutz

O'Rourke -Knoblauch- Reid

Do your players know their season is on the line? Very unBazin like.

Don’t know anything definite but there was speculation on BU radio that the decision to not start Wall might have caused a little dissension in the locker room. As the old saying goes, “if you have two goalies (or quarterbacks) — you have none”....

The first BU goal was a beautiful play that Corey Price wouldn’t have stopped. But the next two Hernberg sort of froze on. Just my opinion.

BU radio said it caused dissension in the UMass Lowell locker room????

Not sure about the goaltending situation, but you can't give up odd man opportunities to a team like BU. I think Hernberg would want the third goal back for sure. A terrible 1st period for the Hawks was the difference.

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

3000 for the over/under? I'd take the over without hesitation.

Average attendance for playoff games at Tsongas:

2018 2934 (2 games - Merrimack)
2017 4470 (3 games - UNH)
2016 5399 (2 games - BU)
2015 3614 (3 games - Angry Leprechauns)
2014 3610 (3 games - Vermont)
2013 4235 (2 games - Maine)
2012 3874 (3 games - PC)

Follow the pattern in college hockey around the country
Love the rennovations to concourse but two complaints

The sound is turned up WAy too high
Also show the visitors goals on replay along with everything else
Had this complaint at BU a few years ago and practice stopped
Never let fans in arena have less access than those watching at home

Thought BU stars were more elite and better goaltending
Lowell had greater balance throughout lineup

Speculation? Where are the facts?

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

That's what they "speculated." And IMO, being at the game, Wall is clearly the better goalie, rotation or no. Not saying it would have made the difference, because you play differently with a 3-0 lead. Who's to say that if he started BU wouldn't have come out with the same strong start? So I'm not at all saying because Wall shut them out that they "would have" won. But I have to say that I was surprised to see Hernberg.

Re: UML 2018/2019 Season: Back to Bazin Basics

What do you mean facts? I said they SPECULATED. They have a right to their opinion. That's all. They wondered if starting Hernberg caused a problem in the UML locker room.

Bernie has been doing the games for 40 some-odd years. He's one of the most respected college broadcasters in the country. It's not like he's some 20 year-old coming out of left field.

(I'm sorry I said anything...jeez)
