Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

This was the 1st ever loss to a AHA team but there have been some ties,RIT & Canisius, and maybe somebody else. I know the gap has been closing but this is a game Lowell should have and needed to win.

In all fairness it was a borderline scrimmage. Winning would have been nice but who cares. Gave coaches another game to see what changes need to be made.
Clearly the freshman D are out of their league and not ready, that hurt them big time last night. that is 3 very soft games in a row

All that matters to Lowell is making Hockey East playoffs and getting points there. This game was no more important than the New Brunswick game.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

It was a tough loss last night. The first period was choppy by both teams so I don't think there was a significant advantage either way. The first ten minutes of the 2nd period were awful and UConn capitalized on a PP. However, they battled back from 2-0 and the next 25-30 minutes were all Lowell. It would have been nice to cash in on the breakaway at the end of the 2nd or get a bar in in the 3rd. UConn played for the tie in the 3rd period and was on the right end of a softie in OT. Lowell deserved a better fate but give UConn credit for hanging around.

I agree that Wetmore and Lyles were the best players on the ice last night. Lyles was very explosive and did a great job of getting the puck to the net. Wetmore is starting off the season really well and plays both ends of the ice very well. Vallorani's doing too much with the puck is more habitual than just a bad stretch it seems. He tries forcing the puck way too much and tried going 1v3 on a PP last night. He is the most talented forward they have so it would be nice if he could get his game in sync.

Also, the lineup changes were a bit strange to me and I think it threw off the flow of the lineup. Cowles didn't see the ice after the 1st and lines were getting shuffled all over the place. It is also tough when Val struggles because Bazin rolled out the Wetmore line at least 35+ minutes last night. Also some of his line combos at the end of the game were a bit odd. Just strange to see a change from such a successful weekend.

Overall, I thought Lowell was the quicker team and showed a ferocious forecheck in the 2nd half of the game. It was good to see that they battled back but not playing 60 minutes of hockey always comes back to bite you. 9 days to really break everything down and get ready for the first wave of Hockey East.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

We all know this is a young team with a new Coach so two wins and an OT loss is good so far. I'm going to the UMass/BC game on Friday with my UMass friend. Either way I will be able to see if BC this season is the same BC we have all seen over the years.

I noticed today that Cowles is no longer listed on the UML roster!

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

so they take the kid's name and bio off of the roster...that is weak!
It would be shocking if they took his name off the roster because of that. He was probably just one of the fringe walk-on players, and was given a shot against UConn ... and they weren't going to keep him on the roster anyway.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Boy, UML and the Pats have a bye this week...yuck.

Heading to the Mack tonight (as its ten minutes up the street from work) for the NU contest. Need to get a hockey fix somewhere and also, it's a 7:30 PM start.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I'll be up there too, should be a decent matchup. Just a warning about parking from the Warrior RinkRat blog...Might want to get there as early as you can.

Fans are encouraged to view the special fireworks show on the Merrimack College campus to kickoff Homecoming Weekend on Friday before #13 Merrimack hosts Northeastern at 7:30 p.m.

The special fireworks ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. near the Sakowich Center parking lot.

Due to the fireworks, the Sakowich Center parking lot will be closed for Friday's game, and to accommodate limited parking on campus, Merrimack will have a special trolley shuttle service running across campus, which will take fans to Lawler Arena from their parking spots.

The special trolley service will begin at 6 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early Friday night with the fireworks and limited parking availability.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Cowles and Sarig were both let go. There was no surgery for Cowles, the UConn game was his tryout. I didn't see any glaring mistakes but clearly the coaching staff didn't see a fit. Conderman may be redshirted because of offseason shoulder surgery. I believe they will both be transferring to D-3 schools to play next semester.

Sarig?

Conderman isn't expected back till around December, so it will be interesting to see what comes out of that.

Thanks for the update snipeshow10. How is Tyler Brickler doing? He looked good in the first Mankato game before taking a leg check and limping off the ice. Hopefully he's ok.

I was told that Brickler will be out for 4-6 weeks, but that he was hoping to be back sooner.
