From twitter: “@HicksJD: So Melchiori refuses to go Osh out of draft. Swears college. Rights traded. Signs. Now traded to Osh. As Boy George sang, Karma Chameleon.”

I still say the best one was the kid who committed to Lowell, signs with pat Roy's team, and then gets hurt the first game in and gets cut.

In juniors you are meat... You are also meat in the NHL... But in college you'll get your education even if your career is ended. In MJ you are still just meat.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

questions to ponder... if UMass has to use a big ol' "M" then do we really have to have "UMass" prominent on our jerseys?

I wanted to know that same thing. Right after I wanted to know if they thought they were original. Like there aren't real hockey teams with a big M already.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I had thought that UMass officially requested that media refer to them as Massachusetts for all of their sports teams a year or two ago.

Can we do the same with Lowell? Somehow I think not.

edit: the whole point is that its hypocritical. I mean, what if we found a stylzed way to use "UML" or M-L across the front... would that be in bounds?

Instead we're stuck with that gaudy "UMass" on our jerseys... we'll never had a jersey that looks slick... never... so long as we MUST use that name on the jersey.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Tomorrow's poll could be interesting. CC and Merrimack had 1 pt weekends, Colgate was swept by Ferris, and Denver split against Huntsville. I expect Cornell to leap frog us but we may be able to sneak into 10th.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

2 much needed points this weekend. Lowell only plays at Vermont once this season, but to keep up their good play (in general) of late, as well as to stay in the home-ice area, they need to win the games against the lower tier teams, and it's hard to argue that UVM isn't that (at least this year). Vermont is 1-4-1 at home this year in HE play, with their only win over UMass.

Agree, the Hawks just need to take care of business. If they continue their solid play they should have a good chance of a win Friday night.

Any word on the return of Kamrass, Furlong and Pendenza? Is Wallin hurt too?

Any word on the Russian or any other mid season additions?

Wallin took a beating towards the end of the UConn game (knee to knee hit, and then being boarded), but he finished the game. I assumed he was held out Thursday to rest up.

Kamrass and probably Pendenza should be back. Don't think Furlong is ready yet.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Ferreira is also out with a head injury he sustained in the Russian game. Ruhwedel, Wallin and Pendanza should all be back for Friday. Not sure about Kamrass or Furlong.

Thanks Snipeshow, I didn't realize Ferrerra was hurt too. Hopefully the team can shake this injury bug. It seems like someone goes down every game now.

The fortunate thing to all of these injuries is that they are happening during a time where they only have had two games that have counted in a month. As Monty said, go up to UVM, take care of business, and all will be fine. One game and two points at a time. Worry about NU on Saturday when the Hawks will have another week almost to heal before they start their stretch run.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

One game and two points at a time.
That's the player's issue. Not ours. ;)

I'm actually really curious to see how this team plays over the next 2.5 weeks, with only one home game out of the next five league games. After the trip to UVM this weekend, you host NU, then head to NU, followed by a mid-week trip to Providence, then a Friday night game at UMass. So while this week and last were short on games, by the time we host UMass on the 28th, Lowell will have only 11 league games left, but 8 will be at home. We as fans will have an even better idea after this 5 game stretch as to what this team is really capable of.

The part I'm worried about though is that 5 games in 9 days stretch that will start up on the 20th and go through the 28th.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

If this edition of the River Hawks is for real they beat UVM. Blowing those big leads against UConn and the Russians has me slightly concerned, but the long bus ride to Orono didn't seem to hurt them earlier in the season. Norm should have the boys ready to play and Carr should be nice and rested.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Carr should be nice and rested.

Or Carr could be rusty? I know that time off is great; rest, relax which will result in enhanced performance. Breaks always have me worried, as you can lose momentum. Its the same thing with work and school... sometimes it takes us a little longer to get ourselves situated, back in the grind and most importantly - comfortable and confident.

I know Norm will have these guys ready, but sometimes thats out of the control of the coach.

Don't mean to be a downer, but this is possible.
