Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

As much as I like to see BU lose they are getting embarrassed by Notre Dame tonight.

I know Lowell struggled last night but a win is a win. Norm's system has unleashed Vallorani and I'm very happy with that.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Plenty for Norm and the boys to work on in practice. They got murdered at the dot until taking over in OT and they have to find a way to deal with pressure on the PP. UConn was just sending guys at the puck and Lowell couldn't figure it out.

Two weeks to rest up before the trip up to Burlington, not counting what I hope will be an injury free exhibition with the Russians.

I only caught the first game, but Vallorani left a very lasting impression. One of the best I have seen.

It's too bad he doesn't have another season or two playing in Norm's system.

Another big NC win for Northeastern last night, 3-2 against the Gophers.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Their list of wins this season is pretty impressive, I have to admit.
If they can keep it going in HE play in the second half those NC wins should pay dividends in Pairwise at the end of the season. After a 1-7-2 start the Huskies are really on a roll, 7-0-1 in their last 8 games.

Happy New Year! What a difference a year makes, huh?

Bob, that's a good point and I'd make an argument that it's already helping them. They are 18th in the PWR but 31st in winning percentage. Having 12 games and 6-6-1 record with TUC is helping them immensely. Would not be surprised if Merrimack and Northeastern are your middle of the pack teams (4/5) if the league going to progress in the way I think it will come March. In December, Merrimack has definitely taken a step back and Northeastern taken a few steps up. Really looking forward to that home and home series with NU in three weekends hence.

Speaking of PWR, how high on the "Lowell Crack Meter ;) :p" would you say someone was on if they told you on October 1st that UML would be alone in eighth place in the PWR three months later. I realize that it's a long way to go from here, but that's a hell of an accomplishment and definitely in bonus land.

Could the impossible happen tomorrow with both Merrimack Valley teams in the top ten. Would not be surprised to see Lowell as #10, but #12 is a much more likely option.

I haven't looked forward to a Hockey East second half this much since 1996. I don't know what could happen and e all know what happened that year :D

Lowell currently 12th in the country. Val co POtW, and somehow Wilson not ROtW.
This is the second time this season that Wilson's had an award that should have been his taken away. Rather confusing. Markinson scored in both of the games for Vermont (as did Wilson for Lowell). Only thing I can think of is maybe they took the competition into account?

Russian Red Stars game on Thursday. Anyone going?

So far on this trip, they've played four of the scheduled six games. They lost at North Dakota 5-1, beat Vermont 6-1, lost to Yale 6-4, headed back out west to Northern Michigan and lost 3-2. They're playing Notre Dame tomorrow and then heading east again to play Lowell.

As of now, I'm going.

My dad and I will be there. The only way I would miss a home game is if I am very very very sick or dead. Great seson so far Riverhawks. Go Riverhawks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Stephen Buco named HE Rookie on the Month for December. Vallorani was a runner-up for Player of the Month and Carr a runner-up for Goaltender of the Month.

Good for Buco. He's not getting the attention of his two fellow classmates in Wilson and Wallin, but he's done a pretty good job as well. All three of these guys are in the Top 9 in scoring for UML as well, and all of the Top 9 have at least 10 points.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Nothing against the Russian Red Stars but the game up at UVM on the 13th and then the home and home with Northeastern on the weekend after that is huge for this Lowell team.

I think Norm will play Robbins/Boulanger against the Russians and shuffle the lines. Lowell should beat UVM as we do pretty well in Burlington but the Northeastern series is a toss up. The Huskies have been on fire lately with some big out of conference wins. The only good thing about meeting the Huskies that weekend is that they will be playing BC & BU before us with one of those games at Fenway.

Thoughts on the UVM and Northeastern games?

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

The Russian game will be good for some guys to get ice time, have Boulanger and Robbins get some game action. Pendanza, Wallin, Ruhwedel, Furlong and Kamrass are all dinged so I doubt they will play.

Agreed the UVM/Northeastern games are the big ones. They need to sweep the remaining UVM/UMA games. After that, every game between Providence, Northeastern (how are they not ranked???), Merrimack can change the playoff picture very rapidly. Lowell really controls its own fate so it should make for a very exciting 2nd half. Home ice would be an amazing jump from last season.

Congrats to Buco as well, he has looked alot more comfortable in the past couple of games. All the freshman had a good month so at least Hockey East picked something right huh? Buco 6pts and +2, Wallin 5pts and +6, Wilson 5 pts and +4. Hopefully they can keep that play going for the 2nd half.
