Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Anyone else feel like today's Lowell Sun sports section looked a little too much like the Eagle-Trib?

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Anyone else having a problem with the audio stream? I just got a new computer so it might be on my end but the UNH stream is coming in fine. I'll listen to this if I have to but would prefer to listen to the Lowell stream.

It is not working for me too.

but what the heck was that sheize diving on our guy like that. Looked like something a peewee would pull.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Definitely a good game though a bit nerve wracking at the end. Wish we could have seen that replay on the goal that was under review. It was a good crowd. A good two points. A good night. Bring that energy tomorrow, boys!

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Nice win despite an ugly 3rd period by the Hawks. They seemed to play very tentative in the 3rd and it all most cost them. Doug Carr and PK unit came up big tonight.
Hopefully Zack Kamrass is ok. He left the ice bent over at the end of the game after getting hit from behind into the boards as time ran out.

A great (record) crowd at the Tsongas tonight to see the Hawks win a very hard fought game. It will be interesting to see how things go in Durham tomorrow night.

Les, I just asked on the UNH/UML thread, but just in case, what was it that happened at the end? I couldn't see that corner from our seats. Good win for you guys, UNH is terrible on the road, but somehow tough to beat at home...

From the boxscore Penalties at the 20:00 mark of the 3rd.

UNH-John Henrion (5-Checking from Behind)
UNH-John Henrion (10-Game Misconduct)

UML-Joseph Pendenza (5-CONTACT TO THE HEAD)
UML-Joseph Pendenza (10-Game Misconduct)

I read that too, but was hoping for a description of what happened. Seems like a lot of UML/UNH games end in skirmishes of some sort...

Hopefully Zack Kamrass is ok. He left the ice bent over at the end of the game after getting hit from behind into the boards as time ran out.

Kamrass came off the ice in a lot of pain and very quickly went to locker room with Mr. Les practically holding him up. Mr. Les was very busy tonight closing up a large cut that Matt Ferreira got on his left wrist as well as helping out Suter after he appeared to be hurt blocking a shot in the 3rd. (He did return after about 5 mins).

I was directly across the ice. From what I saw there was a scrum, one of the UNH players came in from behind the dot and just plowed Kamrass into the boards from behind. Kamrass had no idea what hit him.

Very cheap hit IMO. It was a tough/frustrating game. Some jawing and shoving to be expected at the end even if I don't like it. To hit a kid unaware from behind makes me shudder-it is dam danderous- bad injuries happen that way. And yes Mr les was more busy than he has been in recent memory.

Ah, what set the scrum off? Hate to see something dirty like that. There were some...questionable... plays all around tonight, and after Ruhwedel ended Speelman's season (I'm assuming based on the broken wrist, separated shoulder and concussion) in the last game, there was already some bad blood...

That's pretty much the way I saw it too.

Maybe so, but from what I've heard from most people the play on Speelman shouldn't have even been a penalty.

I didn't see it as a dirty play, but it was definitely boarding based on the proximity from the boards (not the result of the play). And they were taking some liberties with Ruhwedel the rest of that game it seemed.

Like I said, there were a lot of questionable things that happened tonight (though the ones I noticed were at least called by the refs) but I hate to see a guy run from behind into the boards like that regardless, it is as dangerous as you can get, especially if they're not expecting it, and I hope he's ok.

IMO, this is why they invented the game disqualification... If it's as described the league should be assessing supplementary discipline even if it is just a game

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Great win tonight. UML played a great 40 minutes of hockey and then it got ugly in the 3rd with a couple UNH PP's which Carr really stepped up on. The call on Thompson was really bad, especially after Pendanza's iffy goaltender interference penalty, there really just wasnt a need to call either of those. Also, was confused about throwing the 4th line out for a DZone draw directly after a timeout when you called it to rest your top line in the first place. However, they did the little things like chipping the puck to the neutral zone and blocking shots to get the win. Overall, those are two very big points, especially with PC's win tonight. Anything up in the Whit tomorrow would be great so well hope for the best.

Agree with the Holmstrom comment, he's not overly talented but he knows how to play the game and plays it the right way.

The rink was packed and loud which was a plus. They should really just bring the Cup in every night huh? Tomorrow's game should be vicious I am sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if they reviewed the ending scrum, the play on Kamrass was pretty vicious. Apparently his shoulder looked awful and he was going to the ER for X-Rays/MRI. Definite shoulder/collarbone issue.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

If I remember correctly, the 4th line had to go back out because it was following an icing call. I would be surprised if Thompson dressed tomorrow. Bad penalty in the third and he left his guy in front of the net for UNH's first goal. It'd be a big blow if Kamrass is out for an extended period of time. Who's the current 7th d-man?

Lastly, Carr needs to be in net tomorrow. Up a point on UNH with 2 in hand. Want to open that up if at all possible.

You are correct on the post-timeout line. It was called because of the icing, when the change wasn't allowed.

Again, agreeing with you on Carr. He has to be #1 at this point as this season is rapidly becoming not one of rebuilding but one of 'we can do this now'.
