UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

According to Bob we were hunted by the Refs. Chaz, not so much.

Well in the world of Bob Ellis, when is Lowell NOT hunted by the refs? :-)

All this stuff in the 3rd makes me wonder about conditioning. They looked tired and a beat behind from what I watched. I know they played 2 and NU didn't but still!

Conditioning is something that I've been critical of in the past but am just not sure in this one. Certainly all those PKs (including 2-men down) can wear you out fast - that kind of stuff late in the game is something that would probably wear anyone out. Especially, as you say, in a 2nd weekend game. But you may be right. If they didn't seem to all have a shot of red-bull between regulation and the start of OT though.....

Actually, conditioning was the only reason why we won this game, especially in the overtime.

When you have umpteen amounts of consecutive penalities, of which, three defensemen in the box, it a receipe for disaster. You are going to have problems and are going to be tired. These penalties (deserved or not) finally caught up with Lowell and almost cost them a game they should have easily won. Most of the penalities, (Cappy's was a little bush league -- argubaly if you called Cappy, you have the call the NU player for the Fenway swan dive) were legit. Blair a cross-check in the back with the guy faciing the boards. That's going to get called every time. Edwards has to know better; the defensemen should know that any hint of a denied scoring chance in HE is going to result in an arm going up. That's just life, they were called the same crap on Northeastern when we had the better of the play in the first period.

Bottom line is that this team has trobule closing gams; they can get away with it with the NU and Merrimack of the world but when their face the UNH's, BC's, and BU's, they are going to be asking for trouble.

Excellent points you make.

Given the outcome of Friday night's game, if Lowell had ended up losing, or stay tied with, to NU, I think part of me might have begun to give up on the season. But another part of me wonders if last night's "salvage" might be enough to kick-start a run the rest of the way. Even though it's still early, and it's only UMass, I think this weekend's home-and-home will be VERY telling as to the direction this team heads over the next several weeks....

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I was wondering if they were running out of gas in the third that lead to penalties because of getting caught out of position. Admittedly I was only half watching the game and listening to Bob. I had that mistaken idea corrected when I heard about the game this AM. I know they ran out of gas because of them. No one on the bench had any idea why Edwards penalty was called.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

.. The rest were legit but it seemed like they also missed a few the other way.

.. that is correct (least from this Husky fan's point of view as well). Most calls last night were legit & i have to agree that the refs missed 2 on us as well, especially in the 3rd. Otherwise, a well called gm.

That was a great gm to be at.. (even with our L), i was happy to see the back & forth and ultimately, better team (that should have won early..) ultimately prevailed. Hutton saved you guys late, late in the 3rd & OT. That period was all NU, penalties or not. He is so strong on his legs.

Made for some great TV as well i'm sure. College hockey can use these type of fireworks :) g'luck

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

lowell outshot them 4-2 before blair's penalty.

I still remember thinking we were in our end a lot, even if they weren't shooting they were buzzing. I wasn't there tho and I was doing stuff while I was watching/listening so maybe it only caught my attention when they were in the scary end.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Watching the first period of last night's game and TC and Janney have both mentioned about the "smaller" ice surface @ Matthews.

Just one problem, Northeastern has a NCAA regulation ice sheet, which is 200x90.

Stick to the Red Sox, TC

eh... NCAA "regulation" (who knows what that means anymore) I think calls for 200x100... but obviously nobody cares about that... 200x85 is your standard pro rink.

Also did anyone notice that TC did not know many of the players names while calling the game. He would mention that Lowell or NU would have the puck and and very rarely say a players name.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Whew! Nice to Lowell come out strong in OT. I don't know what NUs policy is on opposing fans chanting but my friends and I were repeatedly threatened that they were going ask us to leave for rooting for Lowell, we made sure we didn't use any foul language but the NU fans kept complaining about us and telling us to shut up and that we were annoying. The NU cop finally made us move to another section but I think if were paying $18 we should be able to root for our team as loud as we want to.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

no one was calling you out. it's kind of an inside joke.
I sat and pondered the spelling for a bit and knew it was wrong.... knowing that i was thinking the world was about me... :p

Did they complain if you stood up? That would be the ultimate irony. NU fans are a bit rough around the edges in hockey etiquette. Some of them just don't get it.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

We were in the last row up top so standing wasn't an issue. I think being down 4-1 might have had something to do with it. I'm not going to lie it probably wasn't fun for the people in the rows in front of us but if they have a problem then they should have been louder than us. We basically didnt stop saying things like let's go Lowell and things like the entire game. We can't wait to go back down at the end of the month!

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

This belong in the recruit thread, but thanks for the info. Actually just looked at the USHL scoreboard and as of now, they've taken away the goal ... he's got 4 assists.
Arnold scored his first goal tonight against Chicago.
