Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

My prediction is:

The boys will play hockey.

Someone will win.

Someone will lose.

I will not read tea leaves or even begin to guess the record.

(It amazes me that after 25+ yrs I am still clueless regarding the potential of the teams we are playing. But, it is true, nonetheless!)

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Anyone know who's starting Friday? Hutton or Hamilton?

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Arguably the highest expected season starts tonight, and this thread is dead? :p

They better not come out with a clunker tonight. :o

Mike McMahon and the Warrior Rink Rat blog put Lowell #1 in HE.

Hopefully the offense and the PP are ready to go. In these early games there always seems to be a lot of penalties, special teams become so important.

UMA beat RPI last night 5-2, UMA was 4 for 11 on the PP.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Just a reminder to all you folks counting on a 4pm start time for today's game: that's 4pm central time, and thus 5pm here.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

It appears B2 is going to broadcast tonights game!
And you can also listen to the game online through WUML.\

Sounds like Campbell and Falite will have Wetmore on the line with them. Could be a high scoring line.

Holmstrom, Worthington and Auger will be another line for Lowell.

Found out from Scott, Hutton's starting in net.

Also, Schaus didn't make the trip and is suspended for the weekend. Caveney's out 6-8 weeks.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Goal and two assists for Falite. Goal and an assist for Edwards. Goal for Holmstrom. Wetmore with his first collegiate point. And a shutout for Hutton. Great start to the season, 3-0 win for the Hawks.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Very sluggish start for the team, but they definitely got better as the game wore on. Carter Hutton was the best player on the ice. I was told during the 2nd game that Carter will be back in net tomorrow for the championship game. UNO survived a scare from a much-improved Army team to advance as well. UNO looked decent, but Army took advantage of most of their mistakes. Lowell will need to do the same tomorrow, and will definitely need to play better than they dd today.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Carmine Scarpaglia-nice meltdown by uvm. maybe they can head down the road to air force to come home with a win... maybe hit up yale on the way back. i'm just sayin.

Found this quote from this person on another thread. I haven't entered into the UML-UVM debate before this (just too juvenile) and this will be my only comment. What ranking and how many votes did Omaha-Nebraska have in the latest poll? I'm just sayin.

I could be wrong, but I think Carmine is a BC fan.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Well, since this is my first official post of the year, I'll start by saying that the UML-UVM thing (whatever that may be) needs to end. Vermont lost in the HE playoffs to UML, UML lost to BU in the HE Championship. Vermont lost to BU in the National Semifinal. BU won the National Championship. The was a quick review of the 2008-2009 season that has been over for six months now.

I think that the expectations of the River Hawks for this year got to them this weekend in both games, judging simply by Bob Ellis' call yesterday and even watching them tonight. They looked tight all weekend and even though held a two goal lead in tonight's championship, they fell back to old habits and blew the lead and yet have another one-goal loss in a championship game. Both are things that need to be corrected now rather than in second semester.

The offensive was not the problem this weekend, it was the defense that was rather disappointing. Especially that 20-25 minute stretch where Omaha scored their four goals. There were some really awful fundamental breakdowns that while I realize it's early in the season, it's something that really shouldn't happen with this defensive corps talent. Three defensive mistakes were put into net, and while Carter may have left a juicy rebound on the 1st goal and overplayed the angle badly on the 3rd goal, he was left high and dry for the remainder. The 1st goal doesn't happen if the defense is in position. Defensive line changes were awful tonight.

On the plus side, I really liked the play of Kory Falite this weekend...there is the definite and noticeable change in attitude. Riley Wetmore also has a very decent start to his collegiate career. Worthington's wrap-around goal was a thing of beauty and faceoff control during ENG situation was excellent.

A lot of work need to be done but the River Hawks did do the minimum and obtain a split over the weekend. I don't think anyone would be completely satisfied given the results, especially that the Hawks did have that two-goal lead. With two weeks off in between the home opener against Colgate and the HE opener with NU, a bit of home-cooking to relax the River Hawks may be the thing that is needed. The River Hawks may have failed their first national test but there will be plenty more to make amends during the rest of the season.
