Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Thank you Joe. A Very Impressive resume indeed...especially the "graduated cum laude" part given all the other "distractions". :)

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Thanks for compiling that Schmoe. And yes, Trillium, the reason we love Rooth so much here at UMD is not only for her contributions on the ice, but her character and integrity off the ice. A class act and a great role model for the athletes she'll be working with.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Oh...I'm not allowed to post in the UMD thread...is that it?
If I had my way, you wouldn't post at all. :)
You're unable to comprehend
and you're unable to comprehend that you don't care what the all mighty brookyone thinks. perhaps you should try turning that light bulb ON when you wake up instead of OFF. :)
because your own comments are always completely incontrovertible, classy, high road.
and yours are any different? HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, thanks for the laugh.
From the loudmouth tool who doesn't sign his own disparaging reps.
hello pot, meet kettle. Oh yes, you to my friend are also guilty of this. Perhaps you should come down of your high horse? :D
What color medal does Rooth have?
What color medal do you have?

Nice to see you have an interest in the UMD dogs though. I'm sure this would tickle Shannon pink (if she can catch her breath that is....its a tough job, ya know, laughing at you, hysterically, and continuously).

How unfortunate it is for you then...that you don't get your way. You know how to utilize the "ignore" feature? Slick little tool. Of course then you'd have little to live for.

Let's see, I'm unable to comprehend that I don't care what I think. Got it. Makes uber sense to me. What's that about a light bulb?

and yours are any different? HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, thanks for the laugh.
Show me where / when I've made an unfounded disrespectful comment regarding a UMD Olympian of storied career? A simple and straightforward request.

hello pot, meet kettle. Oh yes, you to my friend are also guilty of this. Perhaps you should come down of your high horse? :D
I have forgotten to sign a disapproval rep, no denying. This is where you and the posse call my a liar and a coward. One thing I have never done is send someone disapproval rep to "support" my own opinion in a debate...while pretending to be a neutral party. Remember that? The rep was "I don't know, I think RStar has a point." The source? None other than RStarr as revealed by the Extra subscription...oops. Clever little purposeful misspelling attempting to hide your identity, pretending to be another poster...supporting yourself...again, oops. :) pretty much the ultimate in gutlessness. Hello pot, meet kettle.

What color medal do you have?
I don't have a medal. I have to ask, what is the significance of that? My not having a medal.

BAM! FTW, Rstarr!
You made a disparaging remark regarding Natalie Darwitz and her silver medal. If it's somehow significant I don't have a medal I would ask you the same. Do you have a medal? What color is yours?

I thought you two didn't want me to post in this thread?

So whats stopping you from using it? You're the common denominator with all the hate going around.

Live in the past much? how many years ago was that? harboring all that for this long? geez, no wonder you are so upset....

To ignore you and the rest of the posse whose sole purpose is to personally attack me...I know the posse would like that as they perpetrate their daily character assassinations...not gonna happen. I will defend myself.

There's one other common denominator with all the hate as you so frequently and inaccurately label it. You and the posse would have to take a look inward to understand that. I'm not too confident that'll ever happen. BTW, everyone who disagrees with you...isn't a "hater." That's just your cheap *** way of attempting to discredit their opposing points of view. It's a cop out and nothing more than a cheap shot.

Just as this is a typical cheap attempt at diverting attention from the facts. You want to call people names for your interpretation of their use of the rep system in your effort to portray another poster (me) as having poor character. While you completely and fraudulently use the rep system yourself...what the **** does it matter when it was? It is a clear example of the pot / kettle analogy you're so fond of. You shouldn't condemn anyone else on matters of character. You have none yourself.

Another of your incredibly profound contributions, that say absolutely nothing. Another thing you clearly shouldn't do is criticize anyone for their thought process. You don't have one.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Cause it was years ago, like 5, and I was a minor. You're an adult and have been so for, well, decades. Whats your excuse?

and it seems like you "forget" to sign more often than not. Perhaps you should see a neurologist?
You shouldn't condemn anyone else on matters of character. You have none yourself.
Ditto.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Any chance that a couple of you could put your Big Girl panties on and go start your own thread so the rest of us can get back to talking about the Bulldogs?

Agreed. Though I DO LOVE seeing that picture of Shannon over and over and over. Pointing to the winning team, the UMD Bulldogs. I think she should auction off that jacket like they did the Olympian Bulldog jerseys. Think of the bids! I think the fund of that auction should go to buying a box for some of the best Gopher fans to use when the new arena opens. I met a lovely Gopher fan at the Frozen Four who I shared my program with. She was lovely, her daughter a former Gopher, and was so happy to see fans from all teams enthusiastically cheering. SHE gets the box.

You know, off of this non-Bulldog action reminds me of something I learned from a coach last week. I was at a camp for a week of performance training for my sport of choice. He said, (in reference staying focused on your job/role and NOT to the other teams), "Everybody always looks at the winner. At the start line and on the podium, EVERYbody looks at the winner."

Guess part of being a winner is all this non-pertinent activity on our thread. 'Cause everybody wants to be what we are: WINNERS.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Submitted without comment except to say I hate the idea of corporate names on sports arenas...but it's official:

For $6 million, it's Amsoil Arena

by Steve Kuchera, Duluth News Tribune

Duluth’s new arena will be named Amsoil Arena.

Amsoil, the Superior-based maker of synthetic motor oil, will pay $6 million over 20 years for the right to name the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center’s new arena.

“We approached Amsoil very informally,” said DECC Executive Director Dan Russell. “Their response was, ‘We’ll listen to anything,’ and — bingo.”

Russell made his comment immediately following a DECC Authority meeting this morning at which board members unanimously approved the tentative agreement.

The agreement was publicly announced at an 11 a.m. news conference in the still-under-construction arena. During the event Albert J. Amatuzio — Amsoil’s founder, president and CEO — said he was “very happy to be here.”

“I didn’t realize I would be paying this much money,” he joked.

Under the agreement, Amsoil will pay $2 million upon signing. That will help the DECC build up its reserves, Russell told board members. In exchange for the money, Amsoil will get an external sign on the building, on-ice advertising, the use of a suite, 12 tickets and six parking passes.

Russell told board members there are a couple outstanding issues to be resolved, including getting city permission for the sign and permission from the state of Minnesota.

Board member and UMD vice chancellor of finance and operations Greg Fox noted that the amount of the agreement covers almost 13 years of the DECC’s bond obligation for the arena.

This is not the first time Amsoil has bought the naming rights for a local event or attraction. The annual snocross event at Spirit Mountain is named the Amsoil Duluth National Snocross.

Construction on the $70 million arena began in April 2009. The arena will include 6,700 seats and an NHL-sized ice sheet. The University of Minnesota Duluth men’s hockey team will play North Dakota on Dec. 30 in the arena’s first game.

Amatuzio, 86, was born, raised and lives in Duluth. He played college hockey at Duluth Junior College and at what would become the University of Minnesota Duluth. He admits, however, that he doesn’t attend many Bulldogs games.

“Too busy,” he said.

Amatuzio served 25 years in the Air Guard as a jet fighter pilot. He founded Amsoil after retiring from the military and after observing characteristics of synthetic oil in jet engines — reduced engine wear, good performance in extreme temperatures and long life. He thought that synthetic oil also could be used in automobiles. The first can of Amsoil 10W-40 appeared on the market in 1972.

Amatuzio has received numerous awards since founding Amsoil. He was inducted into the Superior Business Hall of Fame last year.

“Amsoil has done things at the DECC since I’ve been here,” Russell told board members. “They are great customers of ours.”

UMD'S GUZZO TO TRANSFER
Minnesota Duluth junior forward Libby Guzzo, a member of two NCAA Division I championship teams, said she was granted a release by the school and will finish her college career at another university.

Guzzo, who would have to sit out a year if transferring to another Western Collegiate Hockey Association school, said she has been in contact with the University of Maine. If a Division I transfer does not work out, the Silver Bay native said she will consider the first-year St. Scholastica team.

Since no one posted about this item in the 5/10/10 Duluth NT, I copied and pasted it here. Sort of surprised, but haven't talked to her for a month or so.
