UMD offseason - 2010

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

I'm just so glad the Duke men's basketball team got to go to DC for photos with the president after their championship this year. After all, it's men's basketball. That's a real sport.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Perhaps UMD could more readily afford some "attractive" black, shiny sequined championship jackets?

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Yes, I would want to do my research first to ensure no NCAA violations would occur. I'm shooting from the hip really--- free association.

I do know that I was approached (my business actually) to see if there was interest in donating funds that would go towards rings.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Okay, so this isn't technically Bulldogs related news except for two names that we already know about. But maybe you watched some of these girls play high school hockey, so I thought I'd toss this out there from the Duluth News Tribune:

St. Scholastica women’s coach Jackie McMillan has announced 28 players for the program’s first recruiting class. The Saints debut in Division III at home Nov. 5 against Augsburg College of Minneapolis.

Northland players on the roster include Minnesota Duluth transfers Libby Guzzo of Silver Bay, a senior forward, and Stephanie Lenz of Duluth, a sophomore forward. Also on the inaugural team are freshmen Steph Strapple of Proctor, Frankie Bergman of Duluth and Lynzie Thorp of Ashland, all forwards; defenseman Kate Sherry of Ashland; and junior goalie Rachel Borchardt of Moose Lake.

Again, I really hope Libby and Stephanie have nothing but success and a lot of fun playing with the Saints in St. Scholastica's first year of women's hockey.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Yes. Their first game in the new facility will be against Wisconsin on Jan. 21. The men open the facility with a game against North Dakota on Dec. 30.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Joakim Flygh, for those that remember him before we had the former players as assistant coaches, is the new Yale women's hockey coach.. (old news, announced July 28)

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Maybe I missed it earlier, but since I don't want to wade through pages and pages of posts, here goes:

I don't see Jenna McParland listed on the Bulldogs roster on their website. Is she not playing in Duluth this season? Is she staying with the Aeros for one more year? (I think that's who she was playing with last year.)

Less than two months to go.... :D

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Word on the street is that Jenna will be joining the 'Dogs in 2011-2012. I can only assume that she'll keep her gig with the Aero's until then.

When she gets here, we'll greet her with open arms.

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Well, the girls of the ice are back in town. Some still trickling in. Captain's practice begins this week (no coaches, not required) and they seem fired up for another great season.

Can.not.wait for it to begin!

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

I've been ready for about...ohhhh, five months now. Once they get around to taking us through Amsoil Arena to pick our season ticket seats, then I'll be impossible to talk to until the season starts. (When are they doing that?)

Re: UMD offseason - 2010

Well, the team finally got the invite to the White House, but the article implies that only reps may be going. Appears a lot of other teams will there, too.

Sounds as if the whole team gets to visit the White House! There was some discussion about the number of staff that could accompany. So far it's Coach Miller, former Chancellor Martin, and one more staff... I was guess Coach Schuler.

Less than a month to go! The girls are really fired up about the season and have, more or less, been in town for a couple weeks now.
