UMD 1 - BSU 1 after one. SOG UMD 15 - BSU 9.

Disallowed goal for UMD...seems like a faster game so far tonight.

Too bad there's no instant replay (or not being used) at a new facility like this. I've watched games in old barns like MSU that have instant replay with their telecasts (except maybe not tonight according to one poster). It's a shame.

Really good attendance tonight...lots of young girls...must be due to the 100 female hockey teams in the area (according to Hansen) for a tournament(s) this weekend. That's good for the sport.

UMD's power play still somewhat anemic. Hopefully that will improve with the line changes.

Miller stressed the point in the pre-game interview that they have the toughest strength of schedule in the country this season which so far hasn't helped but if they can get above .500 some of those wins and splits will be turned in their favour.

Forgot to mention Havel is in net tonight for the Beav's taking over for Ryplanski in last night's game.

Another pretty goal by Winberg.

The Beav's just seem to be missing a few scorers to become a lot more competitive.

UMD 4 - BSU 2 Final. SOG UMD 32 - BSU 27.

Ryplanski took over for Havel in goal for the 3rd period for BSU.

New attendance record at Amsoil for a UMD Women's game...4,095!!!! Very nice.

We don't get to see instant replay when a goal call is reviewed by the referees, so we'll never see a replay on one of those

4,000+!? That's impressive. Was there a promotion and/or a whole flock of girls from the aforementioned tournament?

From what I understand some of those tournament games were held at the Amsoil today and I suppose others will be as well in the next two days. Not aware of any promotion, Hansen didn't mention any, in fact he did say "4,095 paid tickets", so it sounds like just top of mind awareness due to the tournament(s).

They're there for hockey for a few short days so why not attend the highest level women's game that you can while there...good for inspiration and motivation.

I didn't mean for the disallowed goal, I meant for all goals. (I happened to be paying attention to the player in the crease on the disallowed goal, I think it was McParland, and was wondering why she wasn't puttting in more effort to get out of the crease although a Beaver defenceman was in her way, so luckily I didn't need a replay on that one).

A few years ago MSU's broadcast allowed you to replay the replays yourself as often as you wished to a maximum of either 10 or 12 times if I recall correctly!!!...although they were only available between periods.

Seems like a glaring oversight to me that the 'Dogs' broadcasts don't provide such a feature with a supposed state of the art facility like the Amsoil. All the more so since the cameraman chooses to completely ignore the zoom function on the camera making the majority of goals difficult if not impossible to actually see.

Very much agree. Stephanie Anderson should help in that regard for next year.

I was at the girl's tournament check-in on Friday and I believe I saw group tickets to the game in every team's bucket. I'm sure group tickets were part of their tournament fee.

Schedule has been nice since the break now it gets tough. 2 wins against OSU were nice. PK had problems against OSU - it struggles when a team passes well but the offense was able to score. I think they need to do a better job of passing/puck control to compete against UM and Wi.

On the PK they needed to get the puck out of the zone. For some odd reason Miller"s teams have never been able to lift the puck out of the zone.

I mentioned this previously...nice to see someone else has noticed it.

Then again, maybe not so nice. No one should have noticed because at this level it should not be happening. Again, basic skills need to be continually addressed in drills and either learned by some or dusted off by others.

As I've asked before, what is the coaching staff watching when this is continually happening? If you are having huge difficulty clearing your zone by going left, right and up the middle you've got two more options...ring it around the glass up high or just simply lift it over everyone's heads. The last option seems like a complete no-brainer to me. As long as you've got a couple of seconds to get the toe of your stick on the puck with a bit of leverage, it is impossible to defend against.

Some try to clear it like they are making a soft pass, like they are afraid they might hurt the puck. They don't really hit it, they push it.

FYI & FWIW, I do an Unofficial Three Stars list for each OSU Home Game. Lots of Bulldogs were recognized this weekend. If you have an interest, the lists can be found on the WCHA IV thread.

Not a good strategy for next weekend against the likes of Bozek, McMillen, Jalosuo, Ramsey, etc. :eek:

Seem as if moving Wong to C has made a positive impact for the dogs . . . she always seemed a natural bringing the puck up and distributing it. I for one, regardless of how things turn out against the ever hated rodents, am impressed that this team has turned things around. Late in the first half I'd never have predicted this winning streak.

UM 1 - UMD 0 after one.

UM scored shorthanded when Kortum appeared out of nowhere on UMD's side of center ice and somewhat undressed Black by getting Black to move to her left and then slamming on the brakes...going 5 hole.

Black could improve by understanding that her stick can do a better job of helping to cover that 5 hole but maybe more importantly that it is also an offensive weapon. A quick swipe or poke might have caused Kortum to lose control of the puck and the outcome might have been different.

Kenyon took a feeble short handed shot on a 2 on 1 with 6 minutes left in the period and probably should have passed it.

UMD with good pressure on PP at end of period...could easily have been tied up.

Kessel from Brandt on a beautiful short drop pass within 10 feet of the net right after their PP expired.

Good PK's by UMD...they're not looking like a #10 team.

A couple more missed opportunities...could easily have been a tied game at this point.
