UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

The focus was to collapse by the way the ok was set up- only prob is if the D don't block the shot, then they're just a screen- first goal was screened by the captain- at this level, if a goalie can see a point shot, she will stop it- unless it's Laquette shooting- I still think raty's still wondering where the puck went! Regardless, Gophers have a good squad

One of these players is putting her shot in the net once a weekend. The other is doing so less than once a month. That isn't much different than it was last year. The Gophers may be doing a better job of screening, but that's a really high bar to clear if you want to convince me that Lacquette's shot is as good as Bozek's. In the end, a shot is only as effective as the chances that it's going to go in. Aesthetics are nice. Velocity is interesting. But the most important thing is goals. Maybe you're right, but nothing I've seen backs up that claim.

Since Lacquette missed the net I doubt Raty gives a hoot where the puck went.

Guys, don't get me wrong here- bozek is good but a shot doesn't make a player nor a goal- Both have good shots, the diff here is one plays on a healthy team- once the dogs get there squad healthy, they will be fine- look at last year when they knocked off the badgers- pretty sure they were a top ranked team- this is the wcha- any team can be knocked off- with that said, miller will adjust her team for the next meeting- cheers

Well the first game looked like a different team buttttttt they still lost. Second game was awful.

Why are there so many injuries. I was hoping to see Windberg light it up. What about this Alexsandra girl, is she on the team or is she red shirt? Be nice to see the full team on the ice to come together. Looks like lots of individuals out there. Not team.

hmm... the schedule shows no games this weekend. More time to work hard at school, I'll bet.

Maybe when your filling their water bottles than you can tell them this- by your recent post, you seem to know them personally.

Once their horses get healthy, there will be more room for individual goals. Mcp, Hickel, Wong, Winberg and cournroyer are going to get better. With that said, sure would be nice to see the Swedish tender!

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Some of the 'Dogs appeared to be getting serious about their shooting tonight and shooting like they mean it. Good to see. Let's see if they can make that a permanent part of their repertoire.

4 goals on 4 serious shots...nice to see....shooting like they mean it.

Also nice to see Carlstrom finally get a start...looked very solid...appears quite capable.

I'd venture to say that this was the first game, an entire game, where the 'Dogs looked like a team this season. Sharp, aggressive and hungry. Lots of beautiful plays that didn't end in a goal but everthing else was there...smooth and fluid.

Hopefully, the continual injuries that have devastated the team so far this season are in the past.

What a shame. Best of luck to her.

Indeed, what a shame. I, and I asume all, wish her the best for a pain free future.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

What to say -poor puck handling, 0 for ever on PP, and a very soft goal. Need to put players on PP that can handle puck and control it.

Yeah, really bad goal allowed by Black. Missed the game, canoe tipper at the end, but UND's site has the highlights...great job...I think their site is quite good.

Hickel didn't get wood on that first goal...it hit her skate and went in.

Here's the link to the highlights, complete with slo-mo of each goal...

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

That was a crazy game. Reminded me a little of the 2005 WCHA championship between Wisconsin and Minnesota, but this UMD @ UND affair had the bizarre factor cranked way up. I wish I could watch more of the game. On the second goal allowed, maybe one just has to say, "Young goalie, things happen," and move on. There were a couple of skaters that didn't make much of an effort on UND's goals #1 and #3. Can't let MLam go with only a token effort to tie up her stick, and it's almost like she didn't realize that the net was empty behind her on the EN goal. A loss like that must drive a coach bonkers. As much as you'd like to feel good about holding the score down and then coming back in the final seconds, you don't get anything tangible for it. But it seemed like a very even game, and if anything, maybe the 'Dogs had the better of things. Did it look that way to those that saw the whole thing?

Did not see any of it but in looking at the box score I see where UMD did not capitalize on any of their seven power play opportunities.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Wilson's, tonight, was the most beautiful goal that I have ever seen her score...determination and serious concentration to one time (to seriously one time) on the first bounce that great airborne feed from Winberg while she (Wilson) was partially shackled like Houdini by the UND defenceman.

Heavy kudos, as in real heavy kudos, to the camera crew at The Ralph...tremendous work...great slow motion replays...multiple angles...I can't speak highly enough of their effort...totally impressed...top notch. Wilson's goal zoomed from behind the play from the far end of the rink at ice level is tremendous.

Black made a really nice save from point blank on JLam but it strikes me that she's consistently having difficulty at this level of play...meaning D1...or maybe that's, WCHA, D1. Carlstrom is collecting dust on the bench...what does Miller have to lose by giving her a few starts and seeing what she can do? The answer would appear to be "nothing".

Here's the highlight reel from The Ralph...

Ditto to all of this. Absolutely top notch.

Re: UMD 2012-13 SEASON!!! The Quest for 6 begins!!!

Agree -UND does a good job with their broadcast. My complaint this weekend was with UMD coaches. A number of players continue to make very poor decisions on the ice with no repercussions. They continue to get plenty of ice time and continue to make bad decisions. They also put players on the ice in critical situations that should not have been out there.
