Re: UMD 2010-11 Season
I'll start with Brienna Gillanders, since she's playing against her cousin Baylee .. guessing it's her cousin given they're classmates from Kyle, Saskatchewan, and Baylee's siblings play out East. She's a 5'9" forward that I really expect to see moved to defense before her career at UMD is over. Just from observing her play the last couple weeks, she's not real fast but she's strong , which is what we really don't have on defense as far as I see it.
Jaakkola is hard to get an impression of, as a defenseman coming in as a freshman and immediately learning the 'Torpedo' system. I think we'll see her emerge more the end of the year than early. She may just become nothing but a solid defenseman like Posa, not someone who racks up points but doesn't give up points when she's on the ice either.
Dana Gallop's going to need a little time to get used to the college game after being relied upon as a scorer for GRG. I think the best thing for her is this year, she'll have that time with the potent offense, to figure out what she can do at this level. As long as Audrey Cournoyer stays hot on offense though, I see Gallop picking up a bunch of assists.
As for Jamie Kenyon, I don't know how competitive the league the Madison Capitols play in is, but when you score 100 points (61 goals 39 assists) in 52 games.. you obviously know how to put the puck in the net. She could benefit as well from Cournoyer's scoring touch.
OK, it's 2:30 am....
