UMD 2010-11 Season

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I'm relieved that the #1 ranking is gone . . . let someone else wear the target . . . until the end of the season!! These bad games are gonna happen . . . let them happen early. And, kudos to UND . . . we all want more parity in the league, don't we?

You got that right, Binny. Hopefully the lessons learned from Sunday's game are taken to heart. UND brought their A game. And them some. And it wasn't all Lam either. Ney was on fire.

YES, more competition means better hockey and means more reasons for people to fill the seats. I wills say this-- The Ralph is amazing on it's own- but so refreshing to see so much support for the women's program. I'm hoping that it's not just because it was homecoming weekend.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I'm sure it's been a teachable moment for Coach Miller.

Skate . . . got the tickets . . .thanks! An 11-y.o. friend gobbled them up. (The T-Day theme has struck again!!)

Looking forward to the banner raising this weekend!

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Yeah, Binny. BannerS. Multiple. I'm crushed that I'm not going to be there and I'm catching some serious grief for it, too. Hoping one of these fancy pants Photogs on here catches the moment so I can check it out on my phone while I'm away.

Glad you got the tickets. I just want to fill the seats. If I was made of money I'd buy 200 of them and hand them out around town.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

In today's UMD site story they say the banner raising is not until the UCONN series! And, sad to say they only mention the NCAA banner.

Now . . . as a matter of grammar. In this case. . . I would think the plural would still be "banner". Would one say "I'm going to the banners raising ceremony."? However, "The lenghtly line of banners hanging from the rafters of the arena signify their legendary championship history." :D

One could use the singular and plural, as in the following:

"This is the last banner ceremony to be held at the DECC. The women's hockey team raised so many championship banners there that they ran out of room and had to build a whole new arena. Plus the men's team might someday win something and they'd want room to hang a banner, too."

Something like that. :D

(Edit: I hate the new smilies.)

I see the same smilies that I've always seen:

 -- Mad: red, frowny face
 -- rolleyes, sarcastic: blue smirk, eyes looking up
 -- cool: wearing shades
:p -- sticking out tongue
;) -- wink
:D -- big grin
:o -- embarrassed: pink face looking sheepish
:( -- frown: purple face, upside down smile
:) -- smilie: the original yellow happy face
 -- confused: befuddled blue face crowned by ???
 -- eek: jaw dropping

Would it be a function of one's browser? I use Firefox.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

On IE8 they just look like pale little somethings, not even smileys.

I'm with you on that one. Nothing feels better than giving those UMD folks the big rosy or purple frown/mad smiley when they get too annoying. :D :D :D

Now be honest. That's never, ever happened. Bulldogs fans are some of the most unbiased, fair and humble folks you'll ever meet. (Insert appropriate old smiley here.)

Yup, it's the Browser. using IE7 at home, and still see the same old colorfull smileys. :)
Have a newer IE8 version at work. Got the pale faded looking ugly things. Can't even tell them apart.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I'm having to simultaneous reactions...

1. Ooooooohhhhh---shiny!
2. GAHHHHHH! Change. Everything is weird and different. Stupid.

I'm gonna have a beer and work it all out while simultaneously thinking about how annoying I am.

Also, is there a correlation between my level of annoyance and the success of the UMD Women's Hockey Program? Also, any bets on who the first to respond to that?

Very well said!!! We could have had an entire grammar contest on the topic of UMD banner glory!!!

Got an email from Maria R this AM. Banner raising will next weekend series w/UCON.

BULLDOGS WILL RAISE BANNER NEXT WEEKEND: UMD will raise its fifth NCAA championship banner next weekend (Oct. 23) when the Bulldogs host the University of Connecticut.
Also posted in the Bulldog web site article about this weekend series.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Iya Gavrilova and Patrica Sautter-Elsmore are assistant coaches for Jackie McMillan's St. Scholastica Saints hockey team.. MORE UMD influence on the community!

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

More of those **** foreigners. What a cheater. Why can't she just recruit Minnesota players like all the other teams do?

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I think Coach Miller said what all of us watching thought of the first period (and whole game) were thinking..

“We played embarrassingly bad in the first 20 minutes,” said head coach Shannon Miller. “There was no jump, no effort and we found ourselves down 2-0. We were able to come back and we played very well in the second and third periods, and we had a glimpse of how good we can be when we work. I am proud of how strong we finished.”

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

That first period was like watching high school hockey. Wow. But the second period looked like Bulldog hockey (sort of) and a win is a win. If they bring their game on Sunday, a sweep would be real nice right about now. You know, so the maroon and gold teams have matching sweeps for the weekend. Oh wait... :D

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

The Maroon & Gold teams already have matching sweeps for the weekend, albeit both in the wrong direction.

You think Joel Maturi was wishing he'd hired Dean Blais about now? Our men's radio guy was wondering if 'We Want Blais-er' chants were flowing through Mariucci Arena last night
