UMass Lowell 2024-2025 Season: Expectations are.....Expectations

Well damn. John was a great guy, always seemed to be smiling. Had the pleasure to meet him a few times over the years. RIP.

I made the trip and had a great time in Lake Placid. I recommend it if the tournament continues and Lowell gets an invite back. The Saturday night game was wild and I was surprised to see Lowell won the tournament. I'm not sure the team even knew they won judging by their reserved celebration. I think you can make an argument for PC, an OT win is better than a SO win. Still though, getting a trophy is great for this team. I'm glad they got their scoring touch back as well.

Hearing rumors that Lowell will be in the same tournament next year.

Don't know if it will help, but can't hurt that BC played at UConn last night, so the two games against us will be three games in four days for the Eagles.

The second game of the home-and-home is not until Monday; so they'll have a bit more rest. Still is 3 games in 6 days though.

The way BC has been playing third periods this season makes one think that they will not be the tired team at the end. Glad to see UML back near the top again. However, the Eagles have played the toughest schedule so far going 8-1 against the top 12 PWR while UML is only 1-1 against that same group so this series may give a better glimpse of where they are at.

Seems like the drill for Lowell is to play really physical before and after the whistle, serves as a distraction, so far it is working, Can't go down 2 goals to these guys, they are a very difficult team to come back on. Have to play smarter.

Good thing they decide it by playing the rest of the game on the ice.

It's stuff like this that reminds me why police can't really trust "eyewitness" statements. How two separate groups watched that game and saw two different things, basically shows they saw what they wanted. DNAEagle, this isn't a shot at you. I saw quite a few BC fans saying this on a couple of platforms. And almost everyone around me that was wearing Red, White and Blue, saw the exact opposite. We saw it as BC taking the cheapshots after each whistle. I thought the Refs really didn't have any control of that game, which doesn't help either side. There were a couple of clear calls that were missed, while some of the questionable ones were called (both ways). Even the linesmen weren't doing a great job, with a blatant offside on BC missed in the third, a couple of what seemed clear dump-ins from past the redline being called icing, etc. Weird game for the refs.

Overall, from a Lowell perspective I'm pretty happy with the 2 points last night. I don't remember seeing too many teams that are fast as that BC team. So many times it seemed like they just turned on the after burners and blew past the Lowell defense. Buttazzoni impresses me more and more each game, and now leads the team in scoring. The tip on his second goal from just about the top of the circle was gorgeous. The frustrating part in any game is when your mistakes are so blatant and are the reason you blew 3 points, and against teams as talented as BC, you just CANNOT make those mistakes. Both the first and third goals stand out to me, Jonsson being lazy on the first goal and trying to play with the puck in his own zone instead of just clearing it was the reason for the first. The third goal was a whiff of a shot at the blue line that resulted in a 3-on-1.

Overall a good crowd saw an entertaining game, and Lowell showed me something. Here's hoping they can sneak out a result Monday.

Well we agree that the refs need to do better. The refs did not cost BC a win but I am pretty sure that Brownie is going to give them bad card.

Despite the lapse at the end of the second period and the multiple odd-man rushes given up throughout the first two I was impressed Lowell was able to go toe-to-toe with BC during the third. Lowell stifled their attack and controlled the pace instead of just trying to survive for 20 minutes, and I agree with Norm that that was their best period despite not scoring. They played with confidence and even when Brown put Perreault - Hagens - Leonard together towards the end of the game they were ineffective. UMLFan , BC's goals were definitely self-inflicted, which is encouraging because if they can avoid the egregious mistakes on Monday they'll have another shot. Will be interesting to see the level of physicality in that one. I'd like to avoid the tit-for-tat matching penalties because each period of 4-on-4 felt like a BC powerplay. I'd also like to see Halasz get the nod again.

Halasz is starting to settle himself in to what we thought we'd be getting in portal. Tough to know who truly is our 1... is it Halasz or Henry. Something I'm okay with in the situation we have 2 good goaltenders. Hoping for 3 points tonight

Tough loss last night, and slightly disappointed to see just 5 SOG in the third, while down by a goal. I didn't get to see the full game, but the 3-on-1 goal (for the second straight game) was due to a complete mishap in the offensive zone. They have to play clean, especially against teams with the talent of BC and they screwed that up both games. And while I've never really thought of BC/Lowell being rivals, both games were extremely chippy which I found interesting.

It was nice to be the first team to score on a power play against BC though.

Now take a couple of weeks off, and hopefully fix the weaknesses we're seeing so far (including only 76.1% on the PK).

Fun night at the Tsongas and a pretty good sized crowd for an exhibition too. Glad to see the team look dominant. I don’t recall the last time they beat one of these Canadian teams by such a wide margin. This same team lost to Umass 4-3 last night.

Glad Norm scheduled this, the games next weekend are pretty important. Lowell is up to 8 in the PWR, that’s pretty high for this time of year. Who would have imagined?

It was nice to see Roc Truman set up his brother for a goal.

There were a few reasons for this, but if people didn't see it, last year's NCAA Champions Denver lost their exhibition game to UNLV last night in a shootout. UNLV is in the ACHA.

Also a shocker up in Orono tonight with Bentley beating Maine 4-2. They were outshot 45-19, but their PK probably was the biggest reason for the win, killing 5 of 6 Maine power plays. I know Bentley is having a good season so far (10-5-2 coming into today's matchup), but I wouldn't have expected the Hockey East leader to lose at home to them. Maine now hosts Denver twice next weekend before heading to Lowell in 2 weekends.
