UMass Lowell 2024-2025 Season: Expectations are.....Expectations

Password has been bunk for awhile

I think last night vermont did a solid job of limiting our ability to maintain puck control and zone control. Our goals were opportunistic for the most part. If they can keep doing that to us they have a chance. If lowell has better control then it's over and we sweep.

Vermont could have easily had more goals but its not so blindingly obvious and we did have the oops goal against. More than likely we win tonight but vermont has a punchers chance

A freshman leads the team in goals (when was the last time that a frosh finished a season leading the team?).

Carl Berglund. That was another season where the freshmen had a huge impact. They likely would have made the NCAA tournament if not for Covid.

I thought this game was setting up to be another win with how well Lowell started. But like Bob said, after 10 or so minutes, UConn changed things up. I'm sure the stats exist, but I haven't seen them ... I'd love to know the zone possession time for the three periods. UConn did an amazing job of forechecking in the second and third specially and it just didn't seem we could get out of our defensive zone. The last two periods were similar to watching last year ... bad turnovers, lax defending, etc.

Good win tonight, always nice to not get swept. Halasz was outstanding, and his back to back saves in the first was probably the reason the team won. Again Lowell wound up just being locked in their own zone way too often. But there's nothing to complain about when we're in November and have already surpassed last year's win total. The freshmen continue to impress as well.

Ice Hockey | UMass Lowell vs UConn (11.23.24, Game 2)

Head Coach Norm Bazin Postgame vs UConn (11.23.24, Game 2)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Safe travels to the folks making the trip to Lake Placid. Hopefully the team can take care of business.

Good win last night for Lowell, along with a second straight shutout. I'm wondering if the goal scoring is regressing to the mean with 4 goals scored in the last 3 games. Hopefully they come alive a bit tonight and get another W.

Great tourney win for the guys. SLU game was tougher than I thought it would be and nice way to stick with it against a good Clarkson squad. Also think I underestimated the ECAC as a whole this year. Lot of intra-conference parity and close games against strong non-con opponents... even Providence only won by a goal in both of their games.

I doubt even the most optimistic of us would have expected us to be 10-3-1 at this point. My anticipation for the BC (10-3 overall) series is sky-high right now, the last two games before a three week break. Lowell currently in 4th in Hockey East with 15 points (in 7 games played), while BC is 7th with 11 (6 GP). Maine leads HE with 18 points (9 GP).

Lowell is actually 3rd in Hockey East. Yes, the standings page on the Hockey East website says 4th, but that's because someone gave BU 3 points for beating Notre Lame yesterday, despite the fact that the Angry Leprechauns hightailed it out of town 8 years ago. That should get fixed soon. (USCHO has it correct.)

I don't think I've ever seen this tiebreaker before, "The win, along with the UMass Lowell River Hawks’ 2-0 victory over the St. Lawrence University Saints on Friday, secured the tournament title based on a points system. The tournament was determined by a fifth tie-breaking procedure — total periods won — according to a Clarkson hockey staffer."

I made the trip and had a great time in Lake Placid. I recommend it if the tournament continues and Lowell gets an invite back. The Saturday night game was wild and I was surprised to see Lowell won the tournament. I'm not sure the team even knew they won judging by their reserved celebration. I think you can make an argument for PC, an OT win is better than a SO win. Still though, getting a trophy is great for this team. I'm glad they got their scoring touch back as well.

I also made the trip and also had a great time. I think everyone was surprised that Lowell won the trophy. They were slow bring out the trophy resulting in both teams leaving the ice. It was nice to see the team celebrate with the trophy.
A lot of hockey going on as the hotel was full of boys' and girls' teams playing in a CAN/AM tournament in the other rinks. I'm still trying to warm up as it was a pretty cold weekend.:)
