UMass Lowell 2024-2025 Season: Expectations are.....Expectations

Considering how bad our offense was the last almost two months last year, seeing us score 3 in one minute was ... amazing. 5-1 is much better than I think anyone expected.

5-1-0 is the team's best start since they started 5-0-1 in 1993-94, Norm's senior year. They were also 5-1-0 in 1992-93.

Under Norm, they are now 4-67-1 when they trail by 3 goals at any point in a game, 3-37-0 away from Tsongas. (They also came back from a 3-goal deficit in the exhibition game against Bentley)

I’m glad Norm pulled Beni quickly and they were able to pull off the comeback. I’ve got to imagine the crowd will be good next Saturday. Let’s hope there is a recruit or two in the building.

BU will be coming into Tsongas next Friday with a 4-3 (1-0) record prior to Saturday night after being swept by Michigan at home this weekend. No question their non-conference schedule has been stronger than Lowell's (with 2 at North Dakota and the 2 at home vs Michigan). They were one of the teams walking into the season with National Championship expectations and a ton of great young talent.

In other words, a major test for the Hawks next weekend.

I havent been this excited for a series in quite awhile. The team has definitely shown a huge improvement from last year, with the influx of the freshman and transfers. I'm waiting to see if Lee Parks will begin to show that scoring form this weekend. Barn should be packed on Saturday. Is it a sell out yet?

Going into the second down 1-0 and coming back to take a 3-2 lead after two ... hold on boys. Let's Go Lowell!

BU ties it at 3, and then Lowell scores two goals in 34 seconds (remember, they averaged 2 a freakin' game last year) and winds up winning 5-3 at BU. 6-1 on the year. They've averaging more than double on the offensive side this year. So far.

Just because stats... 4 times all season last year Lowell scored 4 or more (in 36 games). 7 games into the 2024/2025 season, they've now done it 5 times.

Just to add a little bit more good news for Lowell after Field Hockey and W Soccer had their seasons end yesterday, Lowell Men's basketball beat Saint Peter's at home today as well. The Peacocks were in the NCAA Tournament last season, so beating a team like that is always a plus before the Hawks head off to Gonzaga and Washington next weekend. One thing I found interesting about the Lowell roster because I don't think I've seen this ever ... 5 freshmen, 10 seniors (or grad students). No one in between. Duquette is going to have to do some serious work to put together a roster for next year (and as of now, they have no commits for next season).

1st time they've scored 5 or more in 3 straight games since 2001.

Not too bad for a team that most people said had no good recruits coming in and beats a team that has 13 NHL draft picks.

At least they played a D1 team unlike their 1st game. Why do they have 3 D3 teams on their schedule?

Completely dominated last night. The only positive is that the power play continues to work well but 5 on 5 was abysmal last night, the difference in talent really showed up.

Dating back to last season, Lowell has killed off 40 consecutive opposing power plays at home, covering 11+ games. The last power play goal they allowed at Tsongas was scored by Boston College's Eamon Powell at 5:21 of the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] period on February 2, 2024 in a 6-1 Boston College win. This is a Tsongas Center record, and as best as I can tell, a program record.

Scott, nice job on the podcast with John Leahy. Talking UMass Lowell Hockey With Scott Kaplan

I noticed the CHN box scores are now listing time on ice. I didn't realize they were tracking that.
College Hockey Box Score: Boston University vs. Mass.-Lowell - Saturday, November 9, 2024 : College Hockey News

13 players with a point last night, only Buttazoni had 2 points. Another 5 goal game. A freshman leads the team in goals (when was the last time that a frosh finished a season leading the team?). Goal scoring continues to be spread out. 16 players have scored a goal already (in just 9 games). Can they get the sweep tonight?
