Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

I heard on the radio broadcast last night that the river hawks are now 8-0 in mid season tournament games since Bazin has taken over. They lost the Catamont Cup on goal differential last season after having won both games.

Congrats Riverhawks....despite losing all those players (and arguably the best goalie in college hockey) there hasn't been a drop-off. Good recruiting, good coaching and good leadership from the Seniors.

Yeah, amazing job by this coaching staff, and by the players for stepping up into the holes that were opened up by graduation and by early departures. I don't think any of us would have seen this, 14-3-3 at this point? No way.

It gets a lot tougher now though. Only 6 home games of the remaining 14. Games still left against current #2 in Hockey East (BU X2), #3 UVM (both at home), #4 PC (x2), 1 against #6 BC (road) and 2 more against a tough Merrimack team.

yeah... our schedule is weak. On the other hand, its nice not to be chasing things from behind. I'll be happy with a Top 3 finish. Certainly be happy with the league bye. A lot of work remains to be done.

Lowell moves to 6th in the USCHO poll. After last week's results, the Hawks are currenty 9th in the PWR. BU leads Hockey East in the PWR at #7, PC is tied for 10th, UVM 12th and Merrimack 16th.

Zink leads all DI defensemen with 8 goals? Unbelievable. He has as many goals as Jack Eichel has.

UML continues to impress me. Bazin continues to impress me. I'd give unused body parts to see him coaching my team. Hell, I'd probably give up a few ones I do use. The only thing UML doesn't seem to do great is kill penalties, yet the team makes up for it by being extremely disciplined, taking fewer penalties than any other team in Hockey East. Coming into the season without a goalie who had played a minute of college hockey and yet here you are. Bazin is the coach of the year so far IMO. I'm jealous.

Coming into the season without a goalie who had played a minute of college hockey.

This "fact" is about as real as Manti Teo's girlfriend.

Boyle played quite a bit at Umass prior to transferring, 41 games over two seasons according to his UML bio.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Well technically his statement is correct. In fact Lowell came into the season with two goalies who hadn't played a minute of college hockey. :D

But you are correct of course about Boyle which is who I think he may have been referring to.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Fredo, but like Manti says, it's time to find a new joke. Neri has the boat ready, by the way.

I should have said goalies who had not played a minute for UML. And none of this changes how impressive UML has been.

Trust me, we're as shocked as anyone about how well the team is doing this year. We fully expected a sharp drop off after the graduation of a few seniors and the early departures of Folin, Wilson, and Hellebuyck. But big tests yet to come with BU and Vermont.

I know my River Hawks have a small window of recent success with a couple other good seasons so I don't want to sound arrogant but in truth, NDHockey was right. Tending goal for UMass Amherst is NOT playing college hockey. Maybe a low tier D-III.

We'll have to give Jon Quick the bad news
