1-0 after 1. Lowell really did dominate that period. Merrimack is on a power play (their first) for another 53 seconds once the second starts. Shots are 14-4 Lowell.

Zink makes it 1-1

1-1 at the end of the 2nd. Lowell out shot Merrimack 7-2 in the period and has a 21-6 advantage in the game.

Fourth straight game with a goal for Zink, he's now tied with CJ Smith for the team lead. Nice to have this type of record and see your leading scorers are all pretty much under-classmen.

Zink makes it 2-1 with 3:49 left.

How do these tourneys manage to survive? It looked like you could have walked around the rink, introduced yourself to your fellow patrons, and been on a first name basis with everyone in the building.

The announced number last night was over 9k. I'm sure it will be much more filled for the second game tonight. All those "best hockey fans in the country" people only care about their team. Hope that they all enjoy the third place game. :)

Very nice work, Lowell and posters...the CHN app is stuck in the 2nd period. Appreciate the info and win.

I think this is just what happens when the three other teams are all over 1200 miles away and the home team fans just happen to be the most pompous group in all of college hockey. They know the home crowd will buy the seats but they also know they won't show up for any games that don't involve Minnesota.

I would love for Lowell to host a holiday tournament. Something like Lowell, Holy Cross, RPI and UNH would certainly sell out. With so many teams in New England/New York you could get a solid rotation going.

That goalie was amazing at getting the net off its moorings. Was having Rollie flashbacks. He just needs to learn how to kick a chip out of the ice in front of the net (a la Stein) and I would be stuck in nostalgia :p

My wife is of the position that I wouldn't have showed up for the championship game if the tourney had been played here and Lowell had lost the first game; I disagreed with her..respectfully of course. ;) I do think it's human nature to lose some interest when your team's out of it but that place looked brutally empty..I meam it's MN for cripes sakes; what else did they have to do today? ;)

I'd be all for a holiday tourney here and you could rotate between non-Bean Pot HE teams, ECAC, Ivy League, etc.

There is a penalty for intentionally removing the net from moorings? That's the second Lowell chance ruined by the goalie kicking the net off with no Lowell player in the area to cause it
Yes there is, it is a minor penalty! Bob Ellis pointed that out. Bunyon calls that all of the time.
