UMAINE Recruits Part 2: 2016/2017 and what follows

Re: UMAINE Recruits Part 2: 2016/2017 and what follows

I have been busy with work and Thanksgiving and haven't been able to get an updated recruit stats post out, my apologies. This is a good time of year to post an update because high school and prep hockey regular seasons have started in many areas. I do not have access to USHR and thus will not be able to provide accurate stat updates in a timely manner for those recruits playing prep hockey (Needham/Shea/Roy/Breen). If anyone has access to those statistics and would like to periodically provide them to me I would appreciate it, otherwise my current plan is to update them when they become available through other statistical databases.

Per Jeff Cox, Maine received a commitment from Nick Capone . Nick has played with Yale 15U, East Coast Militia, and Connecticut Wolf Pack. Likely landing in Orono either 2019 or 2020.

Nobody I know has seen Emil Westerlund play first hand. Leading the very good Swedish SuperElit league in goals is impressive especially for '98. Last season he played up a division and put up decent numbers. Looks like Maine will have a quite the international flair in next year's freshman class, especially if Schmidt-Svejstrup arrives next fall.

Re: UMAINE Recruits Part 2: 2016/2017 and what follows

@JeffCoxSports: '99 Neil Shea has de-committed from Maine. Lawrence Academy F has good hockey IQ, is good passer. Brother of Maine freshman Pat.

Was he recruited over? Maine has a lot of kids lined up for the next few years and there isn't room for all of them. Jeff's comments on him aren't exactly glowing. I hope things work out for him.

Re: UMAINE Recruits Part 2: 2016/2017 and what follows

A.J. Drobot was called up and played in both games for Fargo (USHL) over the weekend. Drobot, an assistant captain for the Austin Bruins (NAHL), has put together a good first half to his second season with the team. Hopefully he can stick with the team. His performance with Fargo might dictate his arrival date in Orono (2017 or 2018).

That commitment was mentioned in a CT high school hockey blog, the kid just began his Freshman season for East Haven CT High School. Unless he is superbly smart, he will not be in Orono for the '19 season.

HS for athletes is completely different and he all needs to get into Maine is be able to get through the clearinghouse. He can take summer classes and online classes in order to get the necessary credits to graduate in three years. Whether he is good enough to play college hockey starting in 2019 is what will determine whether he is at Maine then or not.

He is 14 or 15 yrs old, you don't need any fingers to count how many of that age recruit has ended up in Orono

The more common route for kids down here is to transfer to a Prep School and actually play five years to get more seasoned. Or the CT Wolves etc.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Tralmaks and Latvia will be playing against the USA today at 3:30 on NHL network.
