UMaine Offseason...Belly Up to the Barr Boys

Saw on the schedules thread that Maine is potentially playing at Union.

So far that would be make us away at Quinnipiac and Union and I would assume Colgate is coming up to Orono for a series. Also I’d think we’d be hosting Bentley.

Hopefully a little less heavy on the Atlantic Hockey opponents this year. The margin for error really shrinks and if we have a shot at the tournament we can’t afford to drop those games.

Bradley Nadeau places at #17 on the NHL Central Scouting list for North American skaters in the final rankings leading into the 2023 draft.

Interesting that North Dakota already has most of their schedule on their website.

Maine must pretty much know their Hockey East schedule for next year already, should be mostly the opposite of this year.

Colgate opening is an interesting one. I don’t think Barr would want to take it but having three young kids makes it tough to turn down if they offer to double your salary.

If so, you all need to rent a bus and go.

Achilles is a true pit with great sight-lines. Capacity is only around 2K, but the Union fans are rabid.

Truly a college hockey destination.

And I'm buying.

I’ll be heading to Union if they’re playing there. I checked out a few of their games on ESPN+ this year and it looked awesome. Also want to get to Quinnipiac since I’ve never been there.

I’ve turned getting to new rinks a bit of a hobby the past few years. Always fun to check out the way other schools do things. Down to my last couple hockey east schools (BC, Northeastern and the new UConn rink)

I went to a game there back in the Timmy days and it’s def worth the trip.

The smaller and less generic rinks are much more fun to visit, too.

Schenectady isn't quite the hole it used to be, either. One has a reasonable chance of surviving dinner there, or, at least, sustaining no worse than a minor gunshot wound after 6 PM.

(Kidding, mostly... But if Maine is there, we're going, for sure.)

Maine’s incoming recruiting class rated #1?
Neutralzone.net supposedly says that,
but I don’t “subscribe”. Maine Hockey tweeted it out this morning.

My guess is that if you filter the classes a certain way you can get that result. BC has a great class coming and BU has a kid that could be a top three pick in next year’s draft. I’m sure some of the western schools have good classes as well.

Hopefully some of the kids other than the Nadeaus and Hopkins can be productive.

Schenectady local here -- Achilles/Metza rink is largely unchanged in the last 30+ years...its a round building and has all of the wasted space and other issues you'd expect in such a design fiasco.
Visiting folks should know that it is largely ADA NON -compliant... i.e. there is no wheelchair seating, ADA restroom, etc. Seating is entirely bleacher, etc...

The city itself is experiencing a very healthy downtown re-awakening---- with tons of bars, restaurants, a few breweries, etc. So other than the sadly outdated rink, the fan experience for non-hockey recreation is pretty solid. As the season approaches, I'd be happy to make recommendations to any of the Mainiacs making the trip.

I like that Maines class is getting attention but #1 sounds like someone is homer.

Poor Drew and Wally...neither can live with any sort of positivity around this program.

Drew bashes Maine's ranking then proceeds to tell us how good BC and BU recruits are.....pfft.

Wally says someone at Neutral Zone is a "homer" despite Maine not showing up at the top of these rankings in literally decades.

I hope that Barr goes 41-1-2 this season....just so I can throw it in their face.

Honestly I was surprised too to see that we have the number 1 ranked recruiting class in the country. It’s not some quirk or manipulation in the filters for the stats, it’s right on the home page when you look at class rankings.

I was reading the criteria for rankings and it goes by age, quality of junior league, points in that league. I think Penticton bulldozing the competition is driving the ranking. Either way, it’s something that hasn’t been done in a long time, I’d imagine the Shore, Hutton, Lomberg class was the last time we sniffed anything close.

Calm down Mrs. Barr.
