The current 3x3 and shootout is a joke, its a gimmicky way to provide entertainment to pseudo fans who dont really know much about hockey and cater to the endless short term gratification cycle.
Not ending in a tie is just invasive from all other sports.

Nothing wrong with just ending as a tie.

So there seems to be universal consensus that shootouts suck. Why cant, or wont they get rid of the piece of chit shootout !

If more of us expressed our displeasure directly to the league office maybe it would help our cause.

I think among the diehards and people who care enough to post on this forum, we hate the shootouts. I hate them because I’m too invested week in and week out to see a gimmick decide the outcome. Sometimes there should be ties, like on Saturday night. Among the casual fans tho, they love the shootout.

Underlying mindset regarding shootouts is the old “everyone gets a trophy” ploy, ex: points for both teams, more revenue for the media, excitement for the crowd(not me). I do agree though 3 on 3 actually is fun to watch, but even there, if it is such a great way to decide a contest let’s do it for 3 periods and do away with 5 on 5 entirely and have 11-10 scores in wide open games……
I’m for a pure 5 on 5 with a 10 min OT. Play 10 mins until final horn, not first goal. I think a one goal lead in OT, goalie pulled, in the final OT minutes would be more exciting then either a shootout or even when a goalie is pulled late in the 3rd in regulation.

Need to turn in my fan card because I didn't realize Marcus gustafsson son went to BC. Makes me feel real dirty inside honestly

Turn the page from 3x3/shootouts to heading over to BU....this is going to be a tough-tough road trip for Maine....another test for this team...coming off a big series right into another.

BU pistol whipped us every time we played last year. I expect more of the same this year.

New season...new enthusiasm in the team, last week was important that this team is ready for the highly ranked teams in the country...now on the road against a team that has their number can only fuel this team...nothing is a given...but I expect they show up and play very well....will that mean wins..??? ..we shall see..but I have faith in the Staff & players

The one good thing for Maine is I don’t think BU’s goaltending is anything special. Anything Maine can get out of this weekend is a bonus as far as I’m concerned.

Andrew Kuzma signed NLI. Someone on Facebook group said they talked to Duda Saturday night and it looks like he can’t play until next season.

I've been thrilled with the season so far, it's impossible not to be as a Maine fan. But before I start drinking gallons of blue Kool-Aid I want to see them win on Comm Ave this weekend. If they can do that I will be fully bought in as a truther for this team.

I think you're going to be a very, very happy camper after the coming weekend's results.

Shootouts are BS. Gimmicks, as you pointed out.

Granted, it is only seven games into the season, but the PairWise Rankings have a new #1 team: the University of Maine Black Bears. The only other time I was able to find Maine at #1 in the PWR was October and November of 2006 when Maine started 7-0 before a tie against Boston University cost them the top spot. In 2003-04 Maine was tied for first much of the season but always lost tiebreakers to North Dakota and/or Boston College. The PWR history goes back to the 2003-04 season.

Sorry to sound moronic, but where did you find that PW history? Never seems to work for me, no matter the search engine involved.
