UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

I think the first 10 minutes is going to show you what type of emotion this game will bring. Playoffs, rivalry, we will see pretty quickly what is called..who are the refs does anyone know? I swear it's been freaking Roulliard most of the season and he is hot and cold on his calls.

I like to dump on Roulliard as much as the next guy but here are a couple stats that probably will end up meaning nothing.

Home teams are 21-12-2 this season across Roulliard's 34 games officiated (11-8-0 in league play). Maine is 6-1-1 in games with Roulliard as ref (UNH is 4-2-0).

"You know that line you aren't supposed to cross when talking to the president?"
'I'm coming up to it now?'
"No, no. Look behind you."

It's great that the shuttle will drop people off in front of the gym for a game at Alfond Arena...very convenient.

You’re the best! (I especially liked yoir work with Farrah F)

Gotta get in the Delorean for that

Yep!

And would the rest of you clowns stop quoting that windbag from the south who is prone to diarrhea of the fingers? Seriously. Some of us have been smart enough to block his blither-blather, but your quoting it defeats that.

Chuck I do agree they have a chance. The most fascinating thing for me is, does MS7 get fired on the spot if UNH gets their doors blown off tomorrow?

LOL ... I'm guessing you know where I stand on that one, groovy. Emphatic YES. Personally, I think he needs to go, even if they lose in a valiant one-goal playoffs loss, as I'm fed up with "moral victories". JB has taken my point on the UNH thread, that no UNH coach has ever gotten this much rope for less in return than MS7, and put some meat on those bones. The comparison speaks for itself, with this season barely an outlier.

Truth be told, Souza got the job because he is paisan, as are Umile and Scarano. Glenn Stewart was eminently more qualified, a UNH alum AND already on Umile's staff when Souza got brought in from UConn. Stewart deserved way better than to become the "Fredo" of UNH Hockey, and MS7 (although suitably named) has been anything but the powerful, ruthless and efficient "Michael" he could/should have been. Instead, he's basically been "Sonny", and unless he turns things around tomorrow, I'd like to see him meeting his tollbooth scene ASAP (kinda j/k).

... where else can you get this quality of offbeat analysis anyway, folks??

Downeast is East of Penobscot bay, some will say it starts in Ellsworth, Some will say Bucksport is the gateway to downeast Maine. Orono is central Maine, as is Bangor. I've worked all over Downeast Maine, if you know what Deer Isle Nikes are?, you know where Downeast is : )

Wally, you know I grew up in Orono and walked to the Alfond. I've lived in Portland and traveled the state for work. I've come to be convinced that "Downeast" is east of your point of reference. For a Portlander, it's Brunswick. For someone from Boothbay Hahbah, it's MDI. For someone from Ellsworth, it's Sorrento...

From perhaps the least memorable, content-free poster on this thread. Quick test of the virtue-signaling "block status":

Answer via quote on this thread within an hour, I'll ship you a free case of beer (your choice) to your trailer next week ...

Well according to the notorious e cat, formerly known as e clown, and in another life e pussy- it would actually be my mother's basement or a van at Walmart you'd have to ship that beer to. Such illustrious commentary from a guy who is re-using punchlines from the 90s would be expected from a no hardware fan..but Chuck I digress :-)

I think it’s definitely east of Ellsworth. Blue Hill area is way too posh to be considered downeast.

I find it sooo easy to scroll past that old gas-bag's horseshit. Not tempted to even skim his drivel. He's the perfect embodiment of a facetious troll.

War and Peace is more entertaining, and takes a Hell of lot less time to read.

He's completely in love with the sound of his own voice. Just ignore him. It works for me.

Fishy bud how do you feel about Boija in net tomorrow in his first big game? I want to give you credit for saying Ostman wasnt it earlier this year, I'm surprised how much he struggled

I don't really think that there's a consensus re: what constitutes Downeast, but my 2 cents is that it's all of Washington County, and the Eastern half of Hancock County. Period.

(I was engaged to a girl from East Machias, and her family felt the same way, FWIW.)

e.cat's bark is worse than his bite. As discussed recently on the UNH thread, we've had our moments at loggerheads in the past, but we've come out the other side, and all is good. Just two thick-skulled Irishmen who both think we know everything.

Ironically, one of the two of us actually comes from Maine. Not the Downeast, mind you, but Maine nevertheless.

The discussion today about where the Downeast starts and ends has been enlightening. Not too much unlike the discussion about what NH towns are considered Seacoast towns. For those from "away" I can assure you, it includes towns and cities lacking Atlantic Oceanfront property. I've spent more than my fair share of time working in and around Bangor over the last 30 or so years, and the idea that Bangor is NOT "Downeast" would surprise some of the locals who've told me otherwise. Whatever. Clearly, there is no shortage of know-it-alls on this thread too LOL. But all in all, I've always said, I have much love for the UMaine-iacs, groovy. Some folks have long memories of "Wild West USCHO", and took a lot of that stuff personally and/or literally. So be it. And I'm not saying I won't take future shots as appropriate; isn't that part of the fun to be had with the format??

BTW ... has anyone here got any updated pics of Barr's (formerly?) corpulent assistant? ;-) lol j/k etc. ad nauseum

Colorado College came from 3-1 down to defeat Omaha in OT. That result drops Omaha to a 4 seed, sending BU to Sioux Falls. Maine-Michigan is still slated for Springfield with the other game being either No Dak vs AHA/CCHA or Denver vs Providence.

18 hours to go...

One more opine. I think of Downeast Maine as everything nor'east of Bah Habah and Bangoah. The blueberry fields of Deblois/Cherryfield and coastal regions north of BH epitomizes down east . My ex's father bought land and built a nice get away cottage in Lubec. Truly downeast, but so far up theyah as to be almost 'upeast'. I must add that Ellsworth - Blue Hill area definitely to yuppie to be considered downeast. Downeast also considered to be framed by two things, lobstering and blueberrys.

Maine women’s hoop won and headed to the national tournament!
I watched game, surprised at how bad Vermont shot the ball. They had one option, tall blonde over the top for a layup, worked every time. Vermonts point guard was good after that they were awful. Maine looked shaky in 2nd period for awhile then came out of it and blew Vermont out. Any team with with height will give Maine fits. Good to see the pit full, tough place to play for opposing team.

Downeast, may as well prolong this a bit, lol. Right or wrong I think of it more as a regional culture located within the fuzzy defined geographic area. There are pockets of areas within that just dont have the culture anymore - like for example 95% of MDI, even some of the blue hill peninsula area - castine, brooklin, blue hill, surry, theres others too - its hard to consider these areas downeast even considering their location is. Then it ends somewhere around the St Croix, dont really consider Calais downeast but I suppose it could be argued. Baileyville definitely not downeast.
But 100% everyone agrees orono is not downeast.
