You are right Maine FANS...Home or Away they are one of the Best in the country...That is why they are so important to Hockey East and Regionals...they have Fans willing to go the extra mile...you can bet that when Maine & UNH are not in the Hockey Finals at Boston the Building does not fill up or have the atmosphere....the ending was GREAT....just some parts of the game, well Maine kept them in....but I'll take this WIN....bet there was alot of HAPPY Mainers in Bean-Town yesterday....and good for them....

Yes, those BU BC hockey east finals games are poorly attended.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Two things struck me watching this game.

Sullivan sure can be shakey. Hes nowhere close to the talent we've had behind between the pipes over the years, but..........

Having said that, this defensive corps has got to be the worst decision making/puck handling bunch I can ever remember. Simply atrocious and scary with the puck.

Even if Maines only one line can put up points, with the above 2 glaring problems, this team can't get past a HE quarterfinal.

Now after Maine gets clobbered by the BC's, BU's and Mack's, Timmay can roll out the "well if only Gus hadnt left early" excuse. I'm rather looking forward to hearing it. :D

Is Maine 7-1-1 in their last 9 games? Extension coming for Timmay!

Whats the problem? Thats perfectly fine. Extend his contract. Hey, if anyone is happy with a middle of the road, medicore every year Maine program, then guess what....we already got our man. Whathead will deliver middle to lower end finishes year after year in HE. He proved that at Lowell and hes doing the same at Maine. If thats what the admin is satisfied with and if thats what the fans are happy with, we're all set.

I mean he runs a clean program, talks a great talk, is a likeable guy. He delivers it all. Except that he cannot compete at the top level of HE or certainly not nationally. If we as fans and the UMaine admin are happy with just putting a team out there and losing as many as they win (in a good year), we just dont worry and be happy with Timmay. Whats the problem?

Didn't Brown crush these guys? And yet Maine coughs up another third period lead.

And Sullivan really needs to control those rebounds. It's like he's made of rubber, and the puck just flies off him.

Caught bits of the game yesterday and man, that top line of yours can really play against anyone in the country. Scary stuff. Kind of reminds me of UNH's top line last year.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that UNH was up for the game last night a bit more than they were for the game against Brown. I'm not sure if last night was a great win, but it would have been a really devastating loss which I'm happy to avoid.

Sullivan did give up some awful rebounds last night but in his defense I think the lighting was probably a bit different than he is used to. There was a bank of lights behind each goal which couldn't have made life easy for him.

It would be nice to get two wins and no more than three losses over the next three weekends but we will see what happens. I think Maine has a decent chance against Merrimack and BU. BC has seven losses so its not like they're unbeatable.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Last night showed why Maine needs a full-time goalie coach. Sullivan should know better than to be blasting rebounds right into the middle of the ice, but has nobody to work with to correct that in practice so it's going to remain as an issue and good teams will take advantage of that.

Also, I can't remember the last time I watched a goalie get completely turned around in the crease as much as he does. At times he looks so lost that it looks like he's just some random "joe-schmo" from the street placed in pads and sent out to tend goal.

Anyone stuck watching yesterday's game in SD . . . the NHL network is replaying the Fenway games this afternoon and evening. In HD (at least on my cable).

Not that those two are poorly attended but with those two and at least Maine/UNH in the Semi's the Building is full for BOTH games, not just for the end of the 1st games third period and then into the Night-Cap.

I rarely post anymore and am no longer an apologist, but is it no longer possible to simply enjoy a win? I got a kick out of how bias Ciocco and Mowers were, you could feel the resentment they had toward Maine in between periods, and to have another feather in our cap vs. UNH is actually very enjoyable.

Team is far from perfect, still lack secondary scoring and tending can be suspect. But the way Maine responded after giving up the shorty was nice to see. Enjoy the moment. We have not had too many like it of late!

Meh. I thought they did alright for newbs. The only real one sidedness I noted was when Mowers thought most or some of the UHN penalties were bogus. You cant say that stuff on the tv. I'll give him a pass for the first time.

The players seemed pumped up and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. One of them told me they've really stepped things up after the BU collapse. So far so good, but they are about to enter the meat of the schedule. We can complain about the fact that they gave up a 3x5 goal and surrendered a 2-goal third period lead, or we can focus on the fact that they did all that and still managed a win against their top rival.

The Red Sox should take the opportunity to do this every year (see the Frozen Fenway thread). Great week for the Ferraros...played outside at Philly as part of the Rangers alumni team, then came to Boston to play with the Maine alumni.

Mowers isn't a newbie; he does Bruins games. The intermissions were a joke, but still better than the crap we get when the Mothership broadcasts the NCAAs.

Why not? He's only got 2 more years and we can't have Mr. Whitehead feeling any pressure or discomfort!

There's a buyout clause after this season. If the school doesn't exercise it we know that Abbott has a new golf partner.

Absolutely! I bet that HE officials are PRAYING that either Maine or UNH makes it to the Garden, or else they will be looking at some pretty smallish crowds!

I cringed when Mowers whined about the penalties, especially when you consider that TVR should have gotten a major and the gate... five consecutive minutes of that powerplay likely would have rendered delaying the Downeaster moot...although since TVR didn't move Flynn out of there in OT you guys got the last laugh

why even write that? A contract doesn't NEED a buy out clause. I can get out of ANY contract by buying out, anyone can.
WHAT is different about THIS buyout clause that makes THIS clause worth mentioning?
Is it a Golden Parachute? (that if Maine wants to get rid of him before his term is up, then Maine owes him $15Million?.... THEN it is worth mentioning)

yep... I agree... and FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY the game plan and all the preparation comes to fruition.
what game plan you ask?
Keeping Spencer at the point on the power play... you KNOW that he is going to give up a short handed breakaway, but as long has Maine can score twice for every shortie, it WORKS.

and see... it works!

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Presumably, if there's a buyout clause, then the terms are specified. The difference is that you skip the whole 'bargaining' part (which can entail substantial transaction costs).

It might matter, depending on what the exact number is, except . . . . . . does anyone think the university is interested in a buyout? If not, then this is all irrelevant.
