yep... I agree... and FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY the game plan and all the preparation comes to fruition.
what game plan you ask?
Keeping Spencer at the point on the power play... you KNOW that he is going to give up a short handed breakaway, but as long has Maine can score twice for every shortie, it WORKS.
and see... it works!
Yes if there is a so called "BUYOUT CLAUSE"...then the amout of money paid out on the next 2 years are a big deal...but like you said if Abbott and the U are not interested in doing so,then all is moot to say the least.Presumably, if there's a buyout clause, then the terms are specified. The difference is that you skip the whole 'bargaining' part (which can entail substantial transaction costs).
It might matter, depending on what the exact number is, except . . . . . . does anyone think the university is interested in a buyout? If not, then this is all irrelevant.
Even when Maine wins the last few years you see far too many holes that they were lucky to win...it use to be that a win was awesome/great with a few tweeks here and there...but now it's all too clear that wins over a Vermont/UNH are different and with the next 6 games coming up will be a true test...@Merrimack/Home to BC/@BU....here's the meat and potatoes of the hockey slate...time to show if they can play with the top contenders in Hockey East.(Just got around to watching the game, due to other obligations.)
Was delighted to see Maine win, but it looked eerily similar to many, many other games in the TW era. Immediately after Joey put the Bears up by two, Tim put the team in a shell, and they needed a flukey OT bounce to win against a clearly inferior team.
Here's an idea: let the guys keep forechecking- they can do it!- even with a lead early in the 3rd. It's painful to watch them retreat and suffer a barrage of shots at times like that.
Again, it was fun to see them win at Fenway, but what is there to lose by letting the dogs run? It ain't like Maine's back-end is going to shut down anybody for 20 minutes.
.....on to Andover and victory,......

You would know more about that than I do, how you doing anyway? Seen your dad at Alfond several times.
And they need to NOT turn the cheek and play hard/tough in their face....tough but smart hockey...let MC take the penalty's and make them pay.Maine has to get some points this weekend. MC has dropped back some and Maine has improved some, whether or not Maine has improved enough remains to be seen. Goaltending is a big and I mean big advantage to MC, after that Maine has the best first line, MC has a better D. Should be closer than early in the season.

Better become a MC fan thenI'd take better coaching, defence, and tending over Maine's first line any day. Hey, maybe thats the recipe for next years team!?!
some observations from someone at the game Pryor is not a good defender......Heggerty has to make better passes...shots from point have to hit the net to get a chance...sitting back on a 2 goal lead rarely works...Sully needs LL Bean to make him some down filled pads to eliminate rebounds...
Pretty much the same-old for years now...
It's one thing to not recruit any talent in net (another topic), but the bone-headed D play is something that should be able to be coached-up.Yet, it's just not happening.
Even a marginal D-man can be instructed to err on the side of safety, and to not toss lazy passes through his own crease, or to cough up the puck in panic-mode deep in his own end, when a more conservative option exists. It vexes me to see that same scary own-zone miscues and bad decisions on Saturday that I've been seeing for maybe 7 years now. A good team would have feasted on that incompetence. (Luckily, Maine was playing UNH during a down year.)
That Fenway thing was fun to watch, but I'll be amazed if the Bears can even manage to go .500 in the coming weeks. I'm fairly sure that it won't happen. If an affordable buyout is on the table, I hope the AD snaps it up before Maine loses what's left of its remaining cache.
