BUT YOU DO NOT COACH DESIRE!!!!!!! That has to come from within.

I disagree with this statement. An organization can and should establish a culture where winning is expected, where outworking your opponent is the only accepted result, where playing to the best of your ability and pushing yourself to your limits is the only option.
Thats WHY when you use to put that Sweater on with the MAINE script on it...Pride/Hard Work/Grit/Never say DIE was what that Name/Player/Team stood for.

yeah yeah yeah... Holy Cross Basketball... Notre Dame Football......
I honestly fear that starting with Keenan Hopson, Timmy started recruiting timmy clones. A hockey team NEEDS Bret Tylers, Peter Metcalfs, Jimmy Montgomerys...

I would LOVE to see a reenactment of the Jimmy Montgomery scene in "out of the woods" where he is breathlessly imploring his team mates to take it to the competition... where he says "they're not GOOD"... with Just a camera shot of Jimmy sitting on the bench, not out of breath, not even sweating and saying nothing, while losing to clarkson

i WISH there were a regular poster on this board who could tell us what Jimmy was like in the locker room and on the bench... someone who was "a member of" the 92-93 team who could convey some of Jimmy's wisdom... or say what SHawn and Grant said back in the day to get the guys to be motivated.
...nah, never happen

Speaking of Out of the Woods - what do we call the sequel?

Back in the Woods?
Lost in the Woods?
Bewildered?

Taken to the woodshed

Will be interesting to see what changes are made for tonight's lineup...Cornell out?too aggressive ?Pryor should sit....awful game...switch goalies after gawd awful second goal? And sully should have been more aggressive even on third...someone tell 2nd line warm ups are over.....

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

i am not 100% certain that the mangene penalty should have been called.
he is allowed to take a swipe at a puck, and as long as he is going for the puck, his follow through is allowed to take out an opponent... stick on the ice and complete puck contact...

game is up on nu's portal on the in demand tab... just went and rewatched it.. pretty clear slash. you can swipe at the puck but slashing down on an opponents stick is a penalty and was rightly called... he made no effort to make contact with the puck, did not come close to making contact, and just chopped down on the guys stick...

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

BTW, I watched it online too, and the resolution was very good, even if it froze (at different times) on both the iPads I had in front of me... Is there any reason to believe that tonight's game won't be free?

The video is always free. Wish other HE schools would provide a video feed of thier games for free. Your best bet is to watch in HD, its pretty good quality. It might freeze up on you a couple times during the game but just close the window and reopen the feed and all should be fine.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Just talked to one of the players. They've been hearing the riot act all day. My advice was to have fun and not feel any pressure because they have none. They're in fifth place and most people expect them to finish fifth. They weren't supposed to sweep BC and they did. They sure as hell weren't supposed to sweep at BU. Lowell was #1 in the country when the Bears won there. But then the pressure mounts because they are supposed to beat PC and Northeastern, and they crumble. Some guys love pressure and some guys don't. This group definitely does not. If they relax, have fun and take the underdog role to heart they will succeed. Play tight and let the pressure get them, and they won't. It's pretty simple. A lot easier for those of us watching than for those playing the game.

If absolutely everything breaks right, this team could be 8th in the pairwise by the end of the night. They could also drop as low as 19th. They are easily in the most volatile position in the rankings.

After seeing several Maine webcasts in below-SD resolution, last night was a treat. Production qualities were pretty decent, too. The girl that reports rinkside does a nice job, but someone should tell her that she sounds like she's reporting in the middle of a hurricane. Take it down, just a notch. :)

Good webcast.

I wasn't aware of the video feed last night and ended up just listening to it - could someone post a link to the video feed? Thanks in advance!!

He must think it gets funny the more you hear the same old tired crap. Maybe he could post all the stats that show Timmay is a better coach than Jerry York

But.......................all those Frozen Fours!! Oh, wait...........................................:(

How did this team ever sweep BC and BU?

TIMMAY!!!!!

I think there was much more pressure in the Lowell game then either last night or against Providence. I viewed that as a definite must win. Last night was the kind of game you're going to have in late February/March. If Higgins' shot doesn't smash against the upright and Beattie doesn't make that horror pass Maine wins. Last night wasn't a case of Maine not showing up or anything like that. It came down to a couple of plays that went Northeastern's way. They're not a bad side either as evidenced by what they've done out of conference. I don't think any team is going to get an easy ride in the Qf's and it will be very interesting to see who makes it to the garden.
