Yeah....I continue to be impressed by the way the team year after year is a positive influence in the community, doing things like this, hanging out with kids, the EMMC visits, etc. That's been a hallmark under TW and its important.

How dare you credit anything good to Whitehead?! This is probably Corkum's influence.

I agree, thats why I posted it. wins and losses are one thing, giving up some time for some kids whose dad is over seas is a great thing

5-1 After 2. Better effort tonight at least. Go UML!

4 point night for Joey Diamond, puts him over 40 for the season.

I still do not get how you can avoid hockey talk for so many years.

Maine demonstrated some skill tonight, and even with a 5 goal lead Maine kept the pedal down. NU did a fairly good job on the PK, though. Who would have thought that Josh Seeley would have some playing time tonight. Great feed by Go NU X-stream.

Mack ties Lowell. Gotta hope Umass can pull off a split next weekend........assuming Maine can beat UHN.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

With puck drop in about an hour or so, I'll say Maine wins in impressive fashion tonight:D. 4-1 while dominating every aspect of the game besides face-offs:rolleyes:. Anthione with GW on the PP in the 1st. NU's goal will be a shortie in the third after the games outcome has long been decided:p. Here's to hoping Lowell wins.:o

Back from the game and all I can say is "Carnac" to you Chripy! Hopefully I did not fail in that reference do to agism! Anthoine did get a PPG and no shortie, who would have thought Theo gets the GW. Nice effort tonight totally different game, and Rawlings helped early, though Beattie to Shemansky 1st goal was beautifully executed. Other folks who had nice games tonight aside from the big 4 (Mangene hit 30 points tonight, Joey 40) Theo, Klaus and Swavely put together a nice game. Abbot's first goal was all due to Swavely who worked the puck in the corner while all 4 players changed on the ice, did not get an assist but was more impressive than the assist he got on the game winner. Continue to be impressed with Rutt, he'll be a real good one for us, and Nemec has been so solid and physical. Nice game by Sullivan as well. Pryor was odd man out tonight on D and Klaus replaced Cerretani and Parker moved up to the line with Beattie and Shemansky.

So that is the effort Maine needs from here on out, some real pretty goals tonight, Abbott's feed to Diamond for the PPG was a thing of beauty, guess blind squirrel fins a nut every once in awhile eh Tyler:D! Darn coaches should have drawn up that 7 goal game plan last night!!!!:p

Bob, I wasn't at the game, but based on what I saw in the NU feed, Leidermark and Swavely appeared to be around the puck and involved in the play all game long. I agree with you on Rutt as well.

I had the pleasure of meeting UML's longest-living season tickets holders a few years back (this couple actually was given first dibs on seats when Lowell moved to the Tsongas,) and they said the same thing regarding Whitehead when he was coaching there.

Tim does and says pretty-much everything right off the ice. If Maine fires him, it will be an obvious "hockey" decision, and that could be a hard sell to the taxpayers. (He knows this, of course... Nobody -not even on this site- ever accused him of being stupid.)

Really enjoyed the NU feed tonight. Maine actually resembled a vintage Bears team up front. It was night and day from yesterday. I could say nice things about the forwards' play, but I'll restrict myself to commenting on Sully... He was solid, if unspectacular, and that kind of performance in goal probably would've added 5-8 wins per season to Maine's respective annual W/L records over the past few of them. (Might have even been enough to get them in the NCAAs a few times, ya never know.)

I see that UM has risen from purgatory in the PW to a relatively comfy #10...

That TUC cliff is absurd; there is no way in the world any team should drop 8 spots one night, then gain back 5 of them the next, all based on what two (currently) irrelevant sub-.500 teams do with each other... Especially not with the sample-size being as large as it is right now. TUC has always been a superfluous criterion, but now it's become a complete joke, IMO.

(Comments from PWR experts might be enlightening... Priceless?)

Wish I had a better internet connection as my feed was choppy and buffered alot but NUs feed was awesome and the price was right:). The first goal was great, nice pass by Beatie and good finish by Adam. Theo's goal came out of nowhere, Rawlings must have though he won both games after Fridays win. Didn't watch the 3rd but Tim putting in Seeley is awesome.

Wow....sounds like they showed up last night. Thats good, I think my daugher went to the game at NU last night...shes been away in Cal for many years and just returned to Mass area.....she used to watch all the home Maine games when Walshy was coaching... me? where Im at now hawkey is the last thing on anyones mind. But I will toast a pina colada to the win. Still a chance for home ice, but a slim one, eh?

Everyone knows how the Maine program has struggled the last few years. If the team finishes with a win next weekend they will have 20 wins and will probably be no lower than 10th in both the pairwise and national poll at the end of the regular season. Not saying it won't happen, but I would submit it would be difficult to do when all of the facts are considered, team academic performance, on and off ice behavior, (Diamond an occassional exception;)) and community activities. Yeah, I know, everyone wants a league championship and a national title every 2 - 3 years.

I went to the game last night but not Friday night. Hard to imagine how Maine lost on Friday after seeing them play last night. I am still not sure how Abbott got the pass to Diamond on the power play in the 3rd period. I watched the highlights on heonline.com this morning again to see how it did it. great skill play.

Regarding off season decisions, if the new bar for the program is a NCAA appearance every 2 or 3 years and an occassional HE regular season or tournament championship with good students and community involvement, keep Timmay. Or if the program wants to have the good grades, community involvement, etc., in addition to a better on ice product, time to look somewhere else.

What's so special about the end of the regular season? Serious question.

Because even if that regular season ends in 20 wins, Maine likely fails to earn home ice in HEA thanks to losing tiebreakers to MC and UML. And if they lose in the quarters, then their arbitrary PWR ranking next Sunday will be meaningless, because the one time when PWR actually matters, they'll be on the outside looking in. As has become the tradition in Orono.

I wanted a title every 2-3 years . . . a decade ago. I'll settle for an NCAA berth every 2-3 years.
