BUT YOU DO NOT COACH DESIRE!!!!!!! T.

i think ya do.
I think that it is Tim's job to get the team to peak at the right time of the year and for him to know just how to get the guys up for games, unfortunately he does not believe in that sort of thing.

remember the speech in Miracle? The desire was fostered by the coach.

a problem with Corkum yelling, is that it can only be effective every so often... it will completely lose its effect if he does it between periods every game.
that said... look at the UML roster and where those boys were recruited out of... and then look at the roster of the overachieving monarchs.

as for broken ankles... come on.. the most "bandwagonny" thing sandiego ever said was lets' enjoy it while it lasts.
I was the awhole who kept saying that he hoped that the team would just lose every game so that maine will have a chance to get better sooner.
I AM glad that the current crop of boys is smart enough to either keep their hands off the ladies, or to only put their hands on the ones who clearly said "ok".. that is something to be happy about this week.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats freakin AWESOME! Now if you could just shrink his head up some and maybe add a lilttle drool hanging from his lip.....just kidding! Great work!

not being able to shrink his head is really the problem, isn't it?

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

The answer is ABT. (ANYBODY but Timmay.)
That has worked out so wonderfully in the past. Just ask President Kerry.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Sullivan was..OK. Made some good stops but the second goal, on the 2x1....the guy only had one option and that was glove side and I don't know if he didn't get it fast enough or what but that's a tough one to give up, at least I thought so.

Pryor really tough night. It's a game they had to find a way to win and they didn't. Not good at all. They may blow this thing yet.

The Abbott-Diamond shorthanded goal was beautiful.

Great post, if only because I agree 100%. :D Can't put this loss on any one guy.

Sully was not bad, except on the 2nd goal when he had all the help in the world, and backed-in instead of coming out. Pryor was his usual self, mistake-prone, as was Hegs... Why in the world making those insane across-the-low-slot-in-traffic passes hasn't been coached out of them by now is just hard to fathom.

Was a little shocked to see the PW hit Maine took as a result of the loss... (Has it ever been this volatile so late in the season? Guess that goes to the amazing degree of parity that exists in college hockey right now.) Another loss tonight might be a fatal blow, barring some post-season miracle.

BTW, I watched it online too, and the resolution was very good, even if it froze (at different times) on both the iPads I had in front of me... Is there any reason to believe that tonight's game won't be free?

well... another uninspired performance... enjoy lawler in the quarters.... probably be the last two games of the season....
Sucked us all back in once again, got to hand it to Timmay and the boys, win a few get you all excited and then roll over once again. My feed was choppy at best but the 3rd looked pretty bad to me.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

instead of "nuuh uhhh"
do you have anything to offer?
He must think it gets funny the more you hear the same old tired crap. Maybe he could post all the stats that show Timmay is a better coach than Jerry York

We've all seen this before...whispers of no contract extension/buyouts/firings...and all of a sudden look out here come's Maine Hockey in full force/perks everyone up...hope is here/ya right....and then the same old/same old settles back in....I figured at least they could get Home Ice in the QF's...a roll of the dice to make it to Boston for Hockey East and a 3/4 seed out West in the NCAA's...but now there backs are against the wall...Home Ice is less of a chance/and that goes for Boston and if they continue to slid in the PWR...then they and all of us will be watching the other teams compete for Hardware....

PWR Update: Maine/Merrimack tied for 15th.

I think we knew all along 4 times from Hockey East will make it and it will be the 4 that make it to the Garden! Maine made the road much more difficult for themselves last night.

BUT YOU DO NOT COACH DESIRE!!!!!!! That has to come from within.

I disagree with this statement. An organization can and should establish a culture where winning is expected, where outworking your opponent is the only accepted result, where playing to the best of your ability and pushing yourself to your limits is the only option.

Sitting at 15th in the PWR and little chance of moving up esp when they lose to UNH next weekend they're toast. 1 upset in any conference tournament and bye bye NCAA's. Whatever. I should've seen this coming. But looking at the schedule 2 weeks ago it was hard NOT to be optimistic. Like Wally said, sucked back in........How's that saying go? Fool me once......blah blah. Is there a saying for fool me for the umpteenth time?

All I'm going to say is don't believe everything you read on here. That's what I took out of last night ;)

Desperately need a win tonight and I think we'll get it.

Last night was about desire. The games they won vs. BU, BC and Lowell were also about desire and execution. In particular the 2 games vs. BC were about desire as they came back both nights. Lack of execution and game plans that is on coaching, when you allow another team to outwork you it is about desire. And let's be clear Maine made 3 mistakes on the last play. Beattie's pass, Mangene's penalty and the lack of anyone else to beat the 3rd man back. Sullivan did what he was supposed to do on that.

In some ways the first 2 periods vs UMASS last Friday have had a detrimental impact on their psyche. Puck went in to easy, and they have forgotten how to work down low for goals. That was what was frustrating on the game winner as Beattie had just worked the cycle to perfection down low and they had a good chance, he then was working the same play, but now only had one d-man at the point and the NU player knew exactly where Beattie was going with it. Hopefully they rebound tonight and get some help from Lowell!

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Just when you thought they were on the cusp of really doing something - now this - its beyond frustrating. Certainly makes tonight and next weekend must wins along with a trip to Boston to get in. Well I would also say this: For all you folks who want him gone, you know that this is exactly the type of cataclismic colapse (again) its gonna take to get him out.

?

maine took a huge hit in the PWR when UMass dropped out of being a TUC.
with the UMass loss and the Maine loss, Maine's record against TUCs went from to 9-8-2 to 7-9-2, i am sure that flipped a few comparisons... Maine LOST 8 comparisons last night.

!

i am not 100% certain that the mangene penalty should have been called.
he is allowed to take a swipe at a puck, and as long as he is going for the puck, his follow through is allowed to take out an opponent... stick on the ice and complete puck contact...

anyone else notice that almost EVERY TIME Maine was skating into the zone, all forwards were on the same side of the ice... like giant mites.
I have no idea how they do that. Squirts are taught to spread out and to play their wings and skate their lanes.
