UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I don't know. I was at the Friday SCSU-UND game this year in the Dog Pound and had to listen to a SCSU female student, who usually cheers for the Huskies, SCREAM for UND. I think she was being purposely loud just to get attention/under people's skin. I came in being ambivalent about who would win, but after 5 minutes of listening to her scream in my ear about Kristo, I was rooting for the Huskies.

If you're going to go to a student section and cheer reasonably then fine, but don't be someone who is purposefully obnoxious.

It also did not help that she had that high pitched voice that make you cringe every time she yelled...

Someone should have thrown a hot dog with all the trimmings at her. People that do that crap are just asking for trouble.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Thought I'd chime in on the sitting in opposing student sections topic. I did it at both the Glas in Bemidji and several times at the Ralph when SCSU would play in those venues. I tried not to be overly boisterous/disrespectful to the home team and would accept my verbal lashings as they came. I'm a big boy, I can handle that much so I don't really see what the issue is.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Thank you. Mankato had years of this to deal with with me. :)

I took the heat, gave some back, and somehow managed to avoid getting hit.
Buddy went to school at Kato. He hooked me up with student tickets on several occasions. The first time we sat in the horseshoe end and some guy just could not understand why I would cheer for the Gophers even though I go to Mankato. Despite a good five minute conversation with me trying to explain my situation, he still decided to spit on our seats when we turned around.

Not sure if this is Gopherfan89, GopherWes, Brenthoven or which gopher fan... Obviously didn't make the trip up to cloudy town...

Well that's just Mankato for ya. If anyone thinks that just because you all go to the same school that you will all like the same teams is just ridiculous.

Hey! How'd you get that picture of me? Stalk much?

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I hear the Gophers have some local talent too:

Nate Schmidt - STC
Sorry, but they're not local if there's a closer D1 school. You could say the same about Raboin if you want. Although, technically, hockeykrazy didn't specifically state that he was displaying those particular players because they are local.

Uh...who defined local in that sense? I'm talking about Minnesota (local) talent.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

The Gophers have shown that they can win big games. When they come out pumped-up, energized, disciplined and with a strong desire to win I'm not sure there's a team in the country that can match them. BC, Notre Dame and the first UND game are all good examples. They want to climb the WCHA and I think they feel a sense of urgency to win this series. However they've also shown inconsistency not only in games, but also from period to period. They have the lead going into the first intermission, only to come out lazy in the second. Although, they HAVE gotten better about this.

Meanwhile the Huskies are enjoying a nice streak and want to prove that they can run with the elite programs by holding onto their five point lead. I think they've shown (mainly through their upperclassmen leaders) a unique sense of discipline both in tough series (UND) and easier ones (BSU). However they have also suffered from inconsistencies. They started off well and slipped against UAA almost being swept, getting swept by NMU, but coming back to sweep Denver. I think they're a strong, focused team. I think these two nights will go a long way in determining how focused and how real they are and whether they can handle high pressure games when it really starts to count. Neither team has been swept this year in conference games.

I think scoring first will be a huge plus for the Gophers as it would help to take the raucous crowd out of the game and they've shown a great ability to hold onto leads, yet they are totally capable of coming from behind as well. SCSU also has shown the ability to overcome multiple goal deficits.

I think tonight will be the lower scoring of the two games with Wilcox coming up huge in a Gopher victory. Tomorrow is anyone's guess, but I see it as being quite a few goals being scores. I just think the Gophers want it more in my humble opinion.

I've had this game circled on my calendar since watching the Saturday game at the NHC last year. Talk about some edge of your seat action..

I'll leave with a quote from Adam Wilcox in today's paper, "I'm amped up!" I think it's safe to say we all are.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

What are you basing it on that the Gophers want it more?
SCSU has a chance to win the first conference title in school history, but according to you the Gophers want it more?

I was wondering the same thing.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

False. Everyone should eat and drink at Rum Runners downtown. Just make sure to get your vaccinations and your permit to carry because everyone else there does.

Why the hell would anyone want to go to Rum Runners?

They used to give you a free fishbowl or something like that on the Wednesdays during your birthday month. Beer and Pizza used to be good. On a Friday or Saturday night, though, you are right. Not a place I would wanna be.
