UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I am going to stick up for Mick. I think he has improved a lot from last year and has done a great job this season. Maybe that is because we are winning. He does get more into insight and analysis during his weekly chats.

Wasn't trying to rag on the guy, he has to pay bills so he does what his bosses want. I am just saying he's not a hockey guy and I don't expect him to bring anything to the table that really makes me think concerning SCSU hockey

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Mick has been pretty good this year. He took a lot of flak last year, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that KA had covered Husky hockey for the entire D-I era and he was superb at what he did.

Agreed, Mick had a lot to live up to following KA. I think he has improved a lot this season and has been pretty good. Still room for improvement though.

Agreed. I am pretty sure Nanne would be delighted to talk college hockey for as long as you (or I ) would listen. The problem is Barriero. He barely knows what hockey is and the only reason they talk about it at all is because of the Wild being on the Fan now. Pathetic, but true...

That was one plus for the lockout. They had no choice but to talk Gophers because the lockout discussion only took a minute or two.

I used to think that up until a few weeks ago. But here are some things he said in his chats:

http://www.sctimes.com/interactive/.../Extra-Points-College-hockey-chat-Mick-Hatten
"Before I was on this beat, I did attend several games and watched and listened to them regularly as a fan."

"It is an interesting assignment. To be honest, I'm not sure if I would have come back to sports when I did if it had been for a different beat. I covered all the other sports at St. Cloud State for 6 seasons and I was the prep sports coordinator before that. A million years ago, I was a below average hockey player, so it's fun to be around the game and get a chance to talk to players and coaches about things that I see during the games or practices."

"Any time you have a new beat, it takes you a bit to get up to speed on things, no matter how long you've been a journalist. There was a learning curve for me that first season of trying to figure out things like Twitter and Facebook and trying to stay on top of things and what do people want to know about, etc. I try to keep you guys up to date on things that, for me as a fan, I would want to know about. And I try to give you a little insight as to what the players' personalities are like, things that you may not get a chance to know about. Not trying to rant there, but give you a feel for how I look at things."

Says the guy who roots for a team that once dyed their hair together.

See, that's what's called a "Postseason ritual." Successful teams often do something to bond come playoff time. Oftentimes its growing a beard, and sometimes it involves dying ones' hair. I don't expect you to understand the concept of a postseason ritual, considering I am pretty sure the SCSU's yearly playoff tradition is growing a beard, but they never stick around long enough to shave off anything more than a 5-o'clock shadow.

I can think of about half a dozen people we're missing that we're GLAD to be missing.

Except BP.... I wish he was here. I bet he has a bad feeling....

What an incredibly well thought out response. I'll just chalk it up to the fact that you basically have no argument for the fact that your ****ty team has a ****ty history of performing ****tily in every single NCAA postseason, ever.

Funny thing he listened to the Black Hawks growing up on the radio.

What the **** is this about?

http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/189769621.html

At the very bottom, two paragraphs from the end, Roman's now saying the MN tournament is being held at Mariucci and not the X? When did this come about?

Maybe they couldn't book the X for scheduling reasons. Or Maybe the Gophers are the host and wanted to play the tournament in Mariucci, it looks like 2014 will be at Mariucci Arena after that who knows.

"Yeah, we all went and got manicures and pedicures together, BUT IT WAS IN THE NAME OF TEAM-BUILDING!"

You'd hope that would get it figured out because they can definitely sell more tickets than Mariucci can hold. Hopefully it will be at the X.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

And exactly what MN team did that?

You guys are bad at this!
What is the distinction? They are both girly things to do. Not comparable to a playoff beard. And if you want to point to that as a reason for postseason success, there are more teams that are successful that don't do postseason rituals. You just never hear about the teams that do dumb crap like this and lose.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I hope so but tommy on the SCSU forum has been saying for some time he'd heard it was at the X. I can only pray to Brooks that he and Roman have the same lousy source.
