UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

Some consider Youngblood to be the finest cheezy hockey movie ever made. I hear a drinking game in Canada is to name all the flaws in the script.

However not as good as the Slap Shot Movie Drinking Game.

Drink Every Time . . .

1. Anyone drinks
2. A game is announced
3. Anyone says "Coach"
4. Anyone is beat up
5. Anyone says "Florida"
6. Anyone scores a goal

AND IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET WASTED . . .
Anytime a specific team or city name is mentioned.

Ah, yes. Back in the stone age, before DVDs, we had this thing called VHS video tape, and properly freezing frames during the 'Cynthia Gibb water bottle scene' took some timing and dexterity.... ;)

:D Hilarious.

So you bought it mostly for the male hunks?  :p ;)

Nope, for the stellar hockey scenes!
Like when Lowe scores his penalty shot goal to win the game, but yet doesn't celebrate until after the puck stops behind the goal line...despite it being a goal the second it went into the upper corner. :D

Jeez, DU had fight straps on their jerseys back in the 70s when I was there.

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

Not exactly. "Turning the lights out" (Pulling a combatants jersey over his head) is a time-honored part of many hockey fighter's intentions in winning a fight, and is pretty well defined in hockey circles as NOT the tactic of a coward.

I still don't like the tactic. Too many times I have seen a player have his jersey pulled over his head, then sucker punched when he can't see or defend himself. That is cowardly and it's not fighting fair.

Fighting without your tie down is a b.s move and a game misconduct penalty in the NHL.See the "Rob Ray Rule".I am not sure of the rule in the NCAA.

If you want to see what I mean, rent the bad 1986 movie "Youngblood" and watch the scene where Rob Lowe (I know, he can't skate, but follow me) learns to fight in the barn with his father (his dad, played by ex-NHL tough guy Eric Nesterenko).

Or, just click and see these explanations:

Eric Nesterenko was a very tough guy. Known as "elbows." Back in the day, when Frank Mahavlich made a run at 50 goals (the record then) he only had about 4 or 5 against the Hawks. Nesterenko was on him like a cheap suit. He got the rest of the 47 he scored that year against the other 4 teams.

The other thing that makes Slapshot worthwhile is the look on Lowe's face when the trainer pulls out that pincushion to select the needle for sewing up his cut. No, we won't be calling an ambulance to take you to the hospital.

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

UAA posters are unsurpassed in whining about officiating (I believe they've retired the WCHA trophy). It's nice to know it starts at the top and trickles down. Classy. Very classy.

Shyiak doesn't have an argument here. It's not like UAA got penalized seven times in a row or anything in one period. That's never happened before, has it?

;) :D

The application of Occam's Razor is indicated here: the simpler of two conflicting theories is almost always the correct one. So, either they committed seven straight penalties or there's a group of people who meet once a month on the grassy knoll to figure out ways to screw UAA. My money's on the first proposition. Although continuing to whine, weeks after the fact, tends to prove my point, doesn't it? This is logical fallacy dressed up as an argument.

Ah, entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem.

Interesting. How would you apply Occam's Razor to the Big Bang theory? :)
