UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

Clark is an agitator, like Hextall for UND, and a little like Lukas Dora used to play for DU some years ago. He gets under your skin and takes opposing teams off their games. He's also a pretty good hockey player, and gives his team a personality. He makes the game more interesting.

Let's hope the Wrenn and Ryder one game DQ suspensions for the DQs are all that comes out of the postgame fracas last night. Donovan and Nutini's return to the DU lineup from the WJCs and injury will replace Wrenn and Ryder, and when Wrenn and Ryder come back for Saturday's game in Madison, I'd expect Philips and Cook/Brookwell to sit.

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

OK.

Without getting too specific....each of the 5 skaters on the ice got some sort of penalty. Two guys from each team hopped the boards -- and those are the 2 extras from each team who got DQ'd. One guy from UAA got a double DQ, for hopping the boards and for sucker-punching Ruegsegger.

Yes, Mcleod was there but he truly was not very involved at all. There was a very thorough review by all the WCHA refs, which was well done. These penalties were well thought out and all deserved, for various offenses.

In the end, basically all the excitement for the entire weekend happened after the weekend's final buzzer. A weekend which I think all involved would like to forget....

Also: We came close to having 2 additional DQ's -- Lee and Colborne. Let's just take our losses and be happy it wasn't worse.

Thanks for the insight.

We certainly couldn't afford the loss of 2 more players going against the badgers in the Kohl (or is it Magness North:p )

Will GCI have the post game activities in their archive later?

GCI doesn't have the game on their home schedule, I think they just tapped into Pioneer Vision, so I don't think there will be anything to archive. I am taping a replay of the game right now.

I fully expected to see Clark and Tuton with the DQ's, I didn't see what Crowell did. As much as DU fans hate Clark, many of us UAA fans feel the same way about Ryder. He is a cheap punk, and got away with a lot of crap after the whistle last night. He crosschecked at UAA player right in the kidneys at one point, with no penalty called.

On the bright side for UAA, Ken Selby made the trip, so maybe the senior will finally get a chance to play a game and prove himself. When I knew that the coach left Christiansen home, it didn't dawn on me that the team was spending the week in the Lower 48. Makes you shake your head. And as genious as Shyiaks game plan was, did he really have rookies on the ice in the last minute?

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

Has anyone heard anything about Crowell getting a suspension?

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

Our hoops team beat perennial NCAA tourney participant Western Kentucky 72-67 this afternoon. WKU is the class of the Sun Belt year after year, and this is the second year in a row we've beaten them in Denver. The hoops team is now 12-5 already and is one of 10 youngest teams in D-I with only one playing senior.

Nice job boys.

Crowell came off the bench and i don't remember who he went after. I'm suprised baldwin did not get a DQ cause wrenn did and they went after one another.

On Christiansen, A friend of mine who played with him in summer leagues says he doesn't care anymore and my gut feeling is he will go pro after the season is over. Sounds like Lawson all over again.

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

What are we, like 40-15 vs. UAA all time? It would only be charitable to allow them to get in a couple cheap punches after the game.

Beautiful play by Rakhshani & Rueggsegger to win the game. Those guys could play blindfolded & make tape to tape passes to each other. Great job by Chevy this weekend. Also props to the two posts behind him, which combined to stop one shot!

Lawson wanted to go pro after his freshman year. I'd hate to see Bryce leave early, as he will be a senior next year and should really shine. If he excels next year with Jonnie O gone, he has a better chance of going "pro", in my humble opinion. Hang in there Bryce. The team needs you.

Re: UAA vs Denver Goin on a road trip

dirty, what is ironic is your comment. You see, every WCHA team plays that way, even the "premiere" teams, including UND. Oh, the fans will never admit it, that's why pictures are priceless.

I hope so too.

Ruegsegger.

Wrenn was not on the ice at the final buzzer. Baldwin must have been. All the players DQ'd were NOT on the ice at the buzzer.

If you'd have asked me on Friday morning I'd have expected the melee to happen between MSU-M and UND in Grand Forks. (See slew-foot by Trevor Bruess to end Derrick LaPoint's season a year ago.)

Instead, the DU "halos" are out in force (and UAA is a bunch of big goons).

And I'm left pondering what may have been the cleanest, and best officiated, WCHA series I've witnessed in at least a season: MSU-M at UND; and even more strange, Puck Swami is admitting that "politics" may have been involved with the final box score for UAA @ DU.

It seems that only Wrenn and Ryder threw punches for DU as they're the only two with DQs.

Maybe Suze can clarify that from a UAA perspective.

Fighting or Punching
SECTION 17. a. A player shall not fight an opponent or participate in a fight, on or off the playing surface. A punch thrown may be considered fighting.
PENALTY—Disqualification.
b. A player who does not retaliate after being struck shall not be assessed a penalty.
c. When a fight occurs on the ice, all non-participating players, excluding goalkeepers, must proceed immediately and directly to their respective players’ bench at the signal of the referee. Goalkeepers must remain in the immediate vicinity of their goal crease.
PENALTY—Minor to offending player(s) or goalkeeper.

I'm glad the refs took their time, watched the video and let emotions settle down before assessing the DQ's.

Poor sportsmanship on UAA's part, but so what. Ruegsegger let his play on the ice dictate the outcome of the game. Clark obviously doesn't have that luxury.
