UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Scott Allen needs to lead this team. Mantha is more than a capable goaltender.

On a different, but similar note, 6 majors already? That sounds about right for an entire season of hockey. I can't find it online, but I'd guess UAA is the leader in major penalties the last several seasons. Which hasn't changed from coach to coach. Either we are still the butt hair team in the WCHA, or we recruit dirty players, or .... I give up. I'm probably wrong on the stats, but it just seems like the CFB majors are a big hit(pun intended) with this team, and have been for several years.

Sorry for the rant, but 2 within 1 minute of each other?

Guess I'll Jump in after a several month hiatus from this board.

As far as what i have seen this year (Wasn't at the Kendall so i cant' comment on that) I can now understand why the media & coaches picked us 6th & 7th.

I hope its like Matt thomas said post game, that last night was rock-bottom, and the guys come out and play there Asses off.

Won't be suprised if D'amico gets the start tonight(he did make the roadie according to haider)

Go Wolves.

I don't think UAA has "dirty" players, but the coaching staff needs to change their mindset, in my opinion. I recall a talk I had with one of the coaches of the former staff, and I was concerned about their recruiting a player with a bad reputation and a ton of penalty minutes. His reaction? Not a bit concerned. Said he'd rather have a guy they have to rein in than one they have to motivate.

There isn't much that I liked about Tally, but he did take a team that had the most penalty minutes (under Brush), year after year, and in ONE season turned that stat to a team with the fewest penalty minutes in a season.

At this point, I seriously wonder about the teams ability to make the playoffs. Yes, I'm aware of UAF's ban.

Flat out, this team is not good right now.

Our goaltending is great. Too many other players just standing around. Where is the passion this season?

I thought the person doing the shot counts at the Sully was bad, by my goodness whoever does it for Ferris is horrible. Hubbs point blank shot into Mott's chest, not counted. A lot of shots weren't counted for UAA, and many that went wide were counted for the Bulldogs. It really messes with a goalies stats when they can't get it right.

I can't recall any trips (where the team stayed on the road for back to back games) when they had success in the second series. I wonder if that is a good strategy. Does it save money?

They have a massive home ice advantage in Big Rapids. Does anyone else from Anchorage think the FSU rink is like Ben Boeke 1.0?

It's definitely a quirky arena. How many times was the play whistled dead because the puck went into the rafters? That joint must have awfully low ceilings.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Does anyone have information on the LOI?
Understand today was a deadline?????
Anyone know of a place to check online?

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

The Coaches Corner radio program at the Alaska Airlines Sports Center is tomorrow, Thursday evening 6:00 PM with Coach Matt Thomas, junior center Blake Tatchell, Northern Michigan head coach Walt Kyle and host Kurt Haider.
In addition to the conversation with Tatch and the Coaches Kurt opens it up to the audience for any and all questions, comments etc.
Food and beverages, including beer and wine available for purchase if you like.
The show is free, open to the public and should be a real good time!
Last show the Center was full.
Hope to see you there.
And if you cant make it live you can tune it in on radio 650 AM.

The deadline for LOIs was last Wednesday. There is no official list, but the players that Chris Heisenberg has news on are listed in Red on his list.

The LOI is for one year, and if the player choses to go back to juniors the letter expires at the end of that year. A player also is excused if the university doesn’t admit him or give the promised financial aid. I also believe the team also can release the player voluntarily.

Anyone know what happened to Vee's recruit Cam Amantea? He was supposed to play this season, I think he sustained an injury that required surgery, and he is playing juniors again this season. Is he still slated to come to UAA next season?

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Can't let this thread drift into oblivion without mentioning the excellent play of Brett Cameron last night. The kid did it all and gave 110%, scoring all four of UAA goals. If each of the players showed that kind of passion, the team would be in the upper half of the standings. The tie last night felt like a loss to me, it seemed like many of the players were playing not to lose instead of going for the win. I hope they have a nice Christmas break and come back in January on fire, like they started the season.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Brett Cameron was named WCHA offensive player of the week.
That sentence could be misconstrued.
Congratulations Brett!

Great honor for Brett. Too bad it didn't make USCHO headlines. How many times do players score 4 goals in a game? Hmmmm.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

See you in Chargerland and the First is on me.

I'm very likely to not be there. My holiday plans with the girlfriend changed (her brother is the navigator on the USS Minnesota, and they're about to deploy, so things changed), and I agreed to stay longer without looking at the hockey calendar. Rookie move.

Rookie Move to say the least....... I am missing the last game against the dump bears as going to Hawaii but almost didn't want to go until was told only missing one game, if it was the series I was staying home. I would at least put her on double secret probation.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

The last number 49 we've had was Bryce Christianson in the 2009/2010 season.
That's about 5 seasons since we've had a 49.
Way too long.
Hope one of our locals breaks the drought in 2015/2016.
