Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Tonight's "Coach's Corner" radio show live on campus at the Alaska Airlines Center was a standing room only success! The food service and bar hustled and did an admirable job of keeping up.
Radio personality Kurt Haider paired with Coach Thomas is a winning combination.
Having goalie Olivier Mantha join the show was the icing on the cake.
Great time was had by all.
It's a great day to be a Seawolf!

I listened to the show on the radio and it sounded like there were a lot of fans there. That's great! What a good thing for the program. Loved the Mantha interview ... he sounds very personable. And you know what? He's NOT a crazy goalie. :)

In Utah and figured I'd catch a Grizzlies game. Checking out Jordan Kwas in a Colorado Jersey. Figured he got schooled by Kunyk enough he would snag his number. Can't blame him...

I was about to look up where Kwas landed, it seemed a real shame if he didn't get a crack at the pros. How did Kwas look?

Got some good ice time. 3rd line center. Colorado beat down Utah pretty good to, 6-2 final. Had a good scoring chance that I saw get deflected wide. He also won a vast majority of his face offs

YES!!! Chuck-A-Puck is the greatest promotion ever!

OK maybe not that big but Chuck-A-Puck is fun and I'm glad to hear that.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

UAA has a forward coming in the fall
Doyle Woody
November 4, 2014

Missed this recently, but the UAA Seawolves have apparently received a commitment for next season from Jeremiah Luedtke, a small forward with big numbers.

The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Luedtke owns 6-17--23 totals in 18 games for the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings. That ranks him tied for fifth in league scoring, and he's third in assists.

Luedtke, 20, is from Lynwood, Wash. Last season, he furnished Prince George with 13-42--55 totals in 58 games.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

The NCAA really slammed the hammer down on the Nanooks. Here is what the NCAA decided:

Division I
Finding No. 1
Six hockey student athletes were academically ineligible due to a variety of issues, including not having a declared major and not completing sufficient credits toward their degree programs. The student athletes participated in 124 contests and received travel expenses for 63 of those contests. The time span for these infractions was from 2007 through 2011. During that time frame, all hockey contests included competition by ineligible student athletes.

Finding No. 2
Four hockey student athletes were ineligible due to being enrolled as a pre major, rather than as a regularly enrolled degree seeking student. They participated in 124 contests and received travel expenses for 62 of those contests. The time span for these infractions was from 2008 through 2012. As a result of findings No. 1 and No. 2, all hockey contests from 2007 to 2011 included competition by ineligible student athletes and more than 60 percent of the contests in 2011-2012 included competition by ineligible student
athletes

Sport Specific Penalties for Hockey
•Award one fewer scholarship each year for three years (credit for two years self imposed)
•No postseason play for the 2014-15 season
•Vacate wins, points and individual statistics for ineligible matches, including those for coaches and ineligible student-athletes.

Does this mean that the Gov Cup won by UA_ during those years now goes to UAA? This is brutal for their university.

Make that 2 Gov Cups in a row for UAF. We better let UAF Ice Angel know.

UAF now stands for "U Are Fu****".

* em, couldn't have happened to nicer people. Especially Karr. I'm thinking we're missing some details here though. Postseason bans? LOL.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

According to the Daily News Miner:

Gray said university officials will be going over win-loss records during the years of the infractions to determine forfeitures. Though it wasn't discussed by Rogers, Gray or Sfraga during the media conference, possible forfeit victims of the NCAA penalties are the Nanooks rifle teams' NCAA national championships in 2007 and 2008 and the Nanooks' hockey team's Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Series victories over the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Ouch! Hey we might get the Governor's Cup by technicalities now!

When was the last time a NCAA hockey team had this happen to them?

In all seriousness this should be a reminder to do things right and by the book, not that our coaches probably need the reminder.
