Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!
Pretty nice season for a team that really couldn't have had high expectations coming in. Congrats to the boys on that. There's a couple of pretty strong players that could be impact players coming in next season. Christian Weidauer might be the next Martin Bakula ... and Tad Kozun could be an impact player as well. Jake Larson would be the next best player in my book ... Amantea and Azurdia are question marks but they look at least as good as many BCHL'rs to come to UAA over the years.
Olivier Mantha and Matyas should be fine in the net. There's a solid group of blueliners returning. 62 goals return out of the 106 or so that we scored this season which is a decent percentage. I don't think there'll be any major losses in the early departure department. Scott Allen would be about the only real worry but it'd be a risk for him. Stick around another year and score close to 20 goals and he'll get a much better deal then. Coldwell had a nice season numbers-wise and might get some attention in the free agent market but probably only if he's got a great agent (errr ... family advisor) since he really didn't get any big press this year. But 6-13 are real nice numbers (league leader from the D had 7 goals).
I don't see any reason that UAA shouldn't be considered as one of the favorites in the league next season with 19 players returning. They did get a wealth of good experience this year that will serve them well. Winning on the road is the major obstacle they'll all have to overcome.
Have a good off-season Seawolves. Best of luck to all the departing players on their hockey playing futures and otherwise. I'm betting we'll see Matt Bailey in the NHL. I have my doubts that I'll ever get to see the Seawolves play in person again but I'll always be a fan. It's the only team and the only sport I follow anymore.
