Glad Tim spoke to Larry. Previous rant partially retracted. Guy from the PPH should have stuck around and waited for Tim. Lenzi would have. Bonehead move by that publication.

Larry Mahoney/ said:
This is the longest losing streak since the Black Bears lost seven in a row from Feb. 20 to March 13, 2009. Since the outset of the 2007-2008 season, Maine has nine losing streaks of at least three games.

UMass Lowell, which had won Friday night’s game 5-3, earned its first Alfond Arena sweep since Feb. 8-9, 1985.

Say this for Larry...he may not editorialize much, but he finds facts and puts them out there. No body finds little streaks and nuggets like he does. He dug up my favorite stat about the worst save percentage in America.

I have to admit this was a disappointing weekend.

Also upset that we lost a great young player in Carlos Amestoy when he left and joined Saginaw in the OHL.

I am positive that things will get better and we will win some games.
This is one fan that's not jumping ship.

Go Black Bears!

I got to see both games this weekend, Friday from the stands and Saturday as a guest in one of the boxes, and I've stumbled onto a way to make it a fairly enjoyable evening, at least from up in the box seats. Just limit yourself to two activities, watching Flynn and drinking beer/socializing. When he's on the ice, which is for much of the game, killing penalties, power play and his normal shifts, I watch him, and the rest of the time I drink beer and try very hard to not think about how the game's going. It's not really my preferred way to enjoy Maine hockey, but for now it'll have to do. I don't get to sit in the boxes very often though so if someone (Maine fans only) figures out a way to make watching from the stands of the Alfond at least bearable, I hope they post how it's done.

Post of the Year, so far!

My only question is whether beer is a strong enough remedy..? I say, have Orono annex The Alfond, so even the stinkards in the cheap seats are allowed to legally drown their sorrows, and to guzzle big tumblers of the hard stuff. (Especially during the second intermission, when Tim's teams are apparently doing the same.)

well, the trustees are set to meet on a myriad of things over the next couple of days, ranging from the pit renovations, to academic programs, to the audited financials... no inside info, but, with any luck, they'll be voting on a buyout of whitehead's contract...
You can BET that Meeting won't have smiling faces. Do you think they have been bombed by irate people demanding answers...?

TIMMAY quit yet?
Would you leave 500,000 dollars on the table? I wouldn't and neither would you. He is staying until they force him out with a buyout or his contract runs out. I don't expect either will happen in the near future.

They have bigger issues to deal with at that meeting. UMaine system faculty is currently working without a contract, frankly I hope Whitehead isn't on their radar screen right now.

Some observations

Line up Saturday night gave them a stronger defensive team and added speed up front...still not a perfect solution but better. Goaltending is going to be an issue Sully plays too deep, Marty doesn't stay focused....neither can steal a game watched BU beat BC last night...Milan beat BC tender...simple

PP still not working, feels like too many people trying to get a perfect pass, no "rage" UML PP had 2 guys in front and did most of work down low....forced openings...Bears skated lovely figures....

Rutt has upside, and no excuses for stupid retaliation penalty....has played a lot of hockey....Leave mangene at C, let him be a strong jump up and first man back.. encouraged by Anthoine's play....overall, since coach is going no whewre this year.leadership has to become a part of what the Srs bring....win despite TW....

Absolutely true. 4,642 fans saw Saturday night that TW has lost this team. Nothing he says or does for this team from here out matters one lick. I, for one, believe he will be gone at the end of this season, regardless of how the team does. If they continue to stink, he will be gone because of it. If this team turns it around right now, it will be in spite of TW.

The only hope left is that the captains (all seniors, for that matter) take over their team and leave TW behind. They need to do it for their own pride. Not for their coach, not for their fans, not for their friends or family. For themselves...and if they want any semblance of a future in hockey after Orono. Lets' see what they're made of.

Damm. I was hoping to get home from work, head to the BDN website, and see big headlines that TIMMAY had quit.

Much disappointment.

wait'll you see him stickhandle in traffic... not quite Purcellesque, but closer than anyone else on this team.
I've seen it in practices, and he has started to do it in games, but is either not allowed to, or fearful of making a mistake.

he has great hands

His goal on Saturday was a thing of beauty let's hope it is a regular feature and not a single highlight.

On what has to be Whitehead's luckiest day, the Coach's show is pre-empted by men's squeakball.....crap, I was hoping to hear about the effect of Purcell's departure on this past weekend's results.

At least Matt Morris has signed a NLI

They'll turn him into a sieve by December next year. Which goalie gets the boot this time or is it back to the ever effective 3 goalie rotation?
