Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

i wouldn't count on those kids being super excited to come play at maine.

with that being said, the writing is on the wall here. regardless of how much money it costs I would put a boatload of it on whitehead being bought out. unlike the other programs at umaine hockey donors actually get involved and can/will pony up.

with all the players and coaches that have been at UMaine over the past 20 years you can't tell me that somebody is willing and able to do a better job then whitehead? child please.

I like the freshmen players, especially leen and parker, higgins has been better than expected, cerretani is good, antonelli is a project but has the skill certainly. Defense is still a bunch of underclassmen so we return a lot there, some of the other guys are improving like beattie and mangene.

With a new coach and a new attitude this team could be solid next year and with a new coach and attitude they should be able to start winning some recruiting battles for real players not just Monarchs and Boston Advantage kids.

You can fill your roster with those kids, and occasionally you get a flynn type who is really solid but mostly you just get 3rd line players. go get some canadians for christ's sake and win some games.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I've said this quite a few times and i'll say it again, who would Maine have hired if they would have gotten rid of timmy in the last three or four years? For me, that's the biggest reason he is still coach. The last thing you want is instability and a revolving door at the head coaching position. I think now that Montgomery is ready you will see him take charge after the season. He will have more to work with than people give Maine credit for too. Even though they might not have explosive offensive ability I like Maine's underclassmen a lot and it looks like there are some decent players lined up; Shore, Lomberg, Morgan, and Gareau. Maine definitely could use a couple stud defenseman and someone to sort the goalies out.

I agree that you wouldn't want a revolving door like Maine football was for awhile. I disagree Jimmy is going to take over after this season, I think buying Tim out is a public relations nightmare way beyond Cindy Blodgett as the money involved is huge.

I think Ruut looked ok last night until the mistake. I also think the lineup on a whole was better.

Not sure where the optimism is coming from for next year, with or without TIMMAY. Other than Diamond, there are no players who'll be there next year who have scored more than 2 goals so far this year. It's one thing looking good, it's another being productive. Look how long it took York to get BC rolling again, and even with the Cedorchuk recruiting clusterf%ck, I still think BC was in a much better position to get back on track than Maine is right now, as Maine really has nothing left to sell any more. My guess is it's years before you get a sniff of the NCAA'a again, certainly aint gonna be happening with a bunch of Boston Advantage kids....

Maine is in deep trouble next year. Anyone who thinks differently has their head up the arse. Flynn and Abbott are gone. The goaltending tandem will still be here to give up soft goals. Unless Diamond scores as many as Kariya did in 92-93, Maine will finish DFL next year.

I agree with you, there appears to be better players coming in. I believe the recruiting is being done by both Kerluke and Corkum, not just one person. They have been able to attract solid players but not outstanding players. Maine needs to get at least 2 or 3 highly skilled players in addition to the others. With more new hockey programs and new arenas going up, the battle for a finite talent pool is very intense.

Better players? We graduated House, Dimmen, Van Dyke, Dee and replaced with a bunch of freshman forwards who can't put the puck in the net and two d-men that coaching staff thinks so highly of they didn't play until last night? This senior class has a guy who already played in NHL and two other 100 point scorers. Think any of this year's freshman (or sophomores) will put up 100? Nope.

Also, the school has made tremendous progress to the campus and arena. Not sure if Maine fans have made the trek recently to the Tsongas Center, but it's pretty amazing. Looking at the arena from a player perspective and experiencing the arena, facilities and increase in attendance numbers factors in.

Now, I have never been to UMO - only seen it on tv, but hearing from my friends that have visited... They say the atmosphere is just awesome... And the fans are extremely loyal to the team. Maine is always a force... And will continue to recruit top teir players. So much history, so much support - Maine will be just fine.

Papa, is that you?

Taking away that "mistake",you have to say it was refreshing to see him out there...he played like he had been playing for a while and he wants to stay in the lineup...he passed well/finished his checks/had some moxie when UML player bumped into Sully...positioned himself and was just part of the team, not flashy...I know its just one game and there will be bumps in the learning process...but I liked what he brought out last night.

Rumor has it that something might be going down with Whitehead..........we can hope! :)

Tim seriously didnt speak last night? Thats disgusting. And illustrates the utter lack of acciuntability thats plaguing the program. Cant recall Tim ever refusin to speak even after the worst losses. If true shows the wheels are really off

Whats use in firing him now? Wont help this year. Barring a miracle I say he goes in April

Gives Abbott more time to line up the ducks.........although I'm sure that he already has the relatively short "list" of replacement candidates in place. Wasn't there a rumor out there that the buyout money was there for the taking a year ago???

House and Dee only had two goals combined their freshman year. Dimmen was good, although not in the class of Ryan, Tyler, or Duffy and Van Dyk was a wildcard. He could make some great plays but was really horrible at times to. I think its too early to tell with Rutt and Norman but the forwards should turn out to be a decent group.

Drew, the odd thing is... YOU were the one who predicted that the Ramsay/Bellamy/Ryan capained team was going to suck... how come you see something that none of us see in this team? Back then, they had many players who might possibly have played at other good D1 schools... I do not see more than a couple on the roster who might have been picked up by a team above Providence or Holy Cross

and... any chance we can get a report from the officers (and editors of the newsletter) on what's up with the Friends of Maine Hockey (and the newsletter?)
