U-M / MSU - The R-rated series

Re: U-M / MSU - The R-rated series

Hope it's an exciting game tonight.

Also hope it's another 7000+ crowd tonight. The atmosphere of these games is always special.

Re: U-M / MSU - The R-rated series

Well my sister went to Jenison to get another student ticket for her boyfriend and they were only selling SRO. 6,400 is a lock. The game back in the fall was the #4 crowd in Munn History or something close to that.I hope tonight is more of the same.

Re: U-M / MSU - The R-rated series

Yeah, they completely sold out the benches early Thursday.

I won't jump and say we'll get a record crowd tonight, but 6,800+ would not surprise me whatsoever.

Munn remains fairly quiet. Unfortunately when I go, Michigan often loses, but I remember a game where I was thinking to myself, "they're beating their rival and the building is this quiet?"
Hopefully it's a good game and good atmosphere for everyone going tonight.

You spell "Al" wrong. I sometimes miss that guy.

Re: U-M / MSU - The R-rated series

Did you see his blog postings after some of the football games? They were pretty out there, like something straight off the mlive message boards. I do have to say it always cracked me up though when he busted out the Rocky hat during "Rocky and Bullwinkle."

Yeah, I read his website. Yeah, he can get... emotional. Tell me when he has been wrong more than he has been right, though.

Re: U-M / MSU - The R-rated series

What the crap was with calling our 4th goal off AND giving us a penalty? Where did that come from? they never even blew the play dead before we scored and even signaled that it was a good goal. It was 1 of the 2 things that made my jaw drop in disbelief. The other being after that big scrap, seeing a 5er go up on our side and them lining up with 5 guys to our 3.

Facemasking is a ridiculous new rule. They used to just call it roughing. And what is the difference between a major and a minor facemask?

But anywho, good game by our guys. Michigan will probably squeal about that goal that was called off but refs lose site of the puck. Atleast it wasn't a stupid "intent to blow whistle" call where they actually scored before the whistle but it still didn't count.

Michigan's offense is lacking. They are quick, backcheck hard and play solid defense but this team just doesn't seem to be the same scoring threat they have been nearly every year previous.

It looked like after Treais and the MSU player got tied up initially then the rest of the players swarm in, you clearly see someone on Michigan have his helmet get pushed or pulled back off his head a little bit. I would guess if someone on MSU actually grabbed his facemask and yanked it back or something, that is where the rule would come into effect, as opposed to just face washing him with an open glove. Of course, a replay of the incident after they announced the penalty would have been nice, but so would have been the announcer not calling them the "Michigan State Wolverines" (etc...).

Re: U-M / MSU - The R-rated series

BOTH GOALS CALLED OFF WAS A GOOD CALL.

Rowe obviously interfered in the crease. The penalty was a good call.

I sit in section 0 not 30 feet from the net when the Michigan goal was called off. It was very clear that Shegos had his whistle on the way up to his mouth when the puck crossed the line. As a good hockey fan knows, the play is not dead when the whistle blows...the play is dead when the referee has intent to blow it dead. THEREFORE according to the rules, the play was already dead.

It was a very emotional game. Munn was as loud as I've heard it in the last 5 years. Tomorrow should be a hell of a game at The Joe.

Well the thing is that he got checking from behind, not goalie interference. I have no idea where this happened or why it wasn't blown dead as we were controlling the puck much of the time and then whacked it in.

oh also, you mentioned the intent to blow thing. If that was why it was called off then that is never a good call. That rule seriously needs to go. It's absolutely absurd.

When i said intereference in the crease that is what i meant. He did not interefere with Hogan but with the other player. Yes, it was a crosscheck and a good call.

The reason it is based on "intent" is becauase the sound of the whistle is subjective to where the person hearing it is. And even though it is simple enough to say the play is dead when the whistle blows, what happen if the referee is off balance and unable to get his whistle to his mouth. By leaving it to the referee we can have a reasonable decision that should be correct...although we are talking about Shegos here so who knows.
